Avatar n tn In fact there is no other problem except big patch of damaged heart muscles and low ef. Warfarin has its own set of problems and some serious risk factors. On net I find literature both in favour and against warfarin, with some tilt towards warfarin. I am not able to understand: - why a clot should form in my heart when the muscles were damaged six years back and considering that I am on aspirin+clopidogrel which too have anti clotting function.
4822967 tn?1367656696 I had acute kidney failure and have thyroid issues both hyper and hypo symptoms. I had severe itching and anaemia as two of my many symptoms of kidney failure. Hypothyroidism is another cause of anaemia. To add, anaemia of chronic disease is a common condition associated with a wide variety of persistent inflammatory diseases. Diabetes is the number one cause of CKD.
Avatar n tn Coincidence, last year my older, rather obese neighbour had aortic valve replacement and a quad bypass just before I had my surgery. He had many problems including kidney failure and was in intensive care for a month but did not have AFIB. He was able to continue just with aspirin. He was the patient in front of me today and was told that they would not need to see him again. He has hypotension that they do not seem concerned about.
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
Avatar n tn She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more. She feels like she is going to bleed to death at times and it scares her.
Avatar f tn The first time, the doctor said she was in kidney failure. They took her off all of her blood thinner, Warfarin, and stated he would not give it to her for fear of her falling and causing internal bleeding. He also took her off of her lasix, because this contributed to kidney failure. He would only release her to a nursing home and would not write an order to resume the blood thinner or the lasix.
Avatar n tn Traditionally, the effects of plavix on platelets is minimal after 5 days. Usually, blood clots normally about three days after taking warfarin. This is quite variable and can be confirmed by a blood test (either checking INR or prothrombin time), prior to surgery.
Avatar n tn The INR value can change due to a number of causes. Those with mitral vale problems and those who have had the valve repelaced are at increased risk of clot formation. Hence, they need to be on blood thinners. With time, most need a change in dose. Normally patients on blood thinners are kept at an international normalized ratio (INR) of 2.0 to 3.0. If the INR is low or near 1.00, this means the blood is pretty thick and likely to cause clot formation.
Avatar f tn He was on dialysis for a 18 months before his dad gave him a kidney and now, 9 years later, that kidney is failing as well. He was in hospital for a month in Jan and landed up in ICU with blood clots in the lungs. He was given 4 blood transfusions but that has made no difference. He is on warfarin again (it was stopped last year Sept when he landed up in ICU with a nose bleed and got a blood transfusion, the warfarin was then stopped). Could it be his blood causing all these issues?
Avatar m tn I am concerned about possible drug interactions between the antibiotic azithromycin and the two heart medications warfarin and amiodarone. My relative has brief history of heart problems span one and a half years (though the underlying heart condition itself appears to be congenital). Rhythm problems resulted in CHF, hospitalization, and later diagnosis and heart surgery. Subsequent dysrhythmia and CHF has been prevented adequately with medication.
Avatar m tn Due to a genetic disorder, I've been taking warfarin for over 6 years and doing fine. My INR is always between 2 - 3. I need to have tooth extraction and implant. Do I have to stop taking Warfarin or can I just continue since my numbers are so good? I read that some people stay on warfarin with no negative problems having a tooth implant. .
1042487 tn?1275279899 In addition, there are brain problems that fall on the lighter side of the broken brain continuum, and while many psychiatrists and neurologists wouldn't qualify these problems as treatable diseases, they still cause unnecessary suffering for many. These problems include chronic stress, lack of focus, poor concentration, brain fog, anger, mood swings, sleep problems, or just feeling anxious or depressed most of the time.
612551 tn?1450022175 I had a surgical procedure last Thursday that required I stop all anticoagulant (warfarin) and aspirin (low dose) 5 days before the procedure. I recall my cardiologist being uncomfortable with the length of time I would be without clot prevention medications. I have permanent atrial fibrillation, so my heart is in the clot production mode 24/7. I have been back on warfarin and aspirin for two days and believe my INR is back in the 2-3 range.
325086 tn?1217971180 Steve, Thanks a million for posting this link for others. Just had a friend undergo a liver & kidney transplant last week and I'm going to share this link & information with her Surgeon. Any more information you know about would be greatly appreciated. Do most patients that develop cirrhosis of the liver due to drinking, end up getting Hep C? If so, can you explain why?
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar n tn I am 62 years old and very active. I weight lift, jog, and ride a bike. Will I have to take warfarin all of my life or at some point can I discontinue it?
233622 tn?1279334905 The clearance of R-warfarin is generally half that of S-warfarin, thus as the volumes of distribution are similar, the half-life of R-warfarin is longer than that of S-warfarin. The half-life of R-warfarin ranges from 37 to 89 hours, while that of S-warfarin ranges from 21 to 43 hours. Studies with radiolabeled drug have demonstrated that up to 92% of the orally administered dose is recov-ered in urine. Very little warfarin is excreted unchanged in urine.
Avatar m tn Pradaxa seems to have with a pretty severe bleeding issues my aunt was hospitalized for a major GI bleed so just be aware of your body. That being said you seem to have some serious heart problems not to be negative, but you should expect to be on thinners for the rest of your life. I have similar heart problems and I'll be on warfarin forever and yes; the weekly/monthly blood test is a real pain but it's better than having a stroke.
Avatar f tn Seven months ago I had a pulmonary embolism and I am told this may have been the second one.I am taking 7 mg of warfarin a day and my INR is 2.5.I had a liver transplant 10 months ago,and was told my vascular system was not great.Given my overall situation I am concerned about heart attacks and strokes.Do you think I should be taking 75mg of aspirin a day as well as the warfarin? Thanks.
3287038 tn?1398422427 with aspirin) and/or blood factors that influence clotting (i.e. warfarin). Your mother is taking both aspiring and warfarin which means that she may have an associated history of coronary disease (and aspirin is being used to prevent further blockages to the coronaries or blood vessels supplying the heart muscle) or that she is considered to be at a very high risk of stroke (perhaps due to her age, EF of 25% and Afib) and warfarin by itself isn’t enough.
1569985 tn?1328247482 m sure they will tell you it is ok, and to resume your normal dosage after the procedure. Warfarin and Coumadin have really long half lives, so they take a while to be effected in the body. It will take a week or so to get back to your therapeutic range, but you should be ok as long as you are still following your diet and not taking any other medications that can interfere. Good for you having this procedure done. I like to see people keeping up with their screens. I am proud of you.
612551 tn?1450022175 CoQ-10 is frequently recommended for reducing side effects in patients taking statins ( like Lipitor) and I haven’t heard of anyone on warfarin having issues. I would recommend consulting your doctor first (obviously) and maybe refraining from COQ-10 unless you have some nasty symptoms that you absolutely can’t tolerate which COQ-10 has been shown to alleviate.
Avatar m tn when you have a heart beat with a normal blood pressure reading and the heart rate is 114 and you feel sleep and want to sleep most of the time., what could be going on and am I in danger.
