Valtrex for flu

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex for flu

valtrex

The platelets were explained by continuous oral birth control. If I was to do PCR how long would I need to stop Valtrex for in order for a valid test? Would I want the PCR done on day 1 of a severe outbreak or is later better?
I have never presented anything genitally (that I was aware of)until about 1 month ago - a small lesion on vulva that was cultured and result was HSV(+). Dr prescribed Valtrex but only enough for recurrent episodes. I have since told my current partner who was stellar in his reaction. He does not live near me and we may see each other every 2 months. We had unprotected sex 3 times - that was before I knew the HSV result.
She prescribed me 1000mg of valtrex a day for suppressive therapy. I started with only taking 250mg because I wanted to see if a lower dose would be effective.. Presto...no more outbreaks....for 9 months. Then fast forward to now. I started a severe outbreak while on the suppressive therapy and so far it has lasted 11 days. This outbreak is the most severe to date besides my initial outbreak, with new symptoms...
It just started today, sore throat, intense migranes/aches and congestion...When should I take my Valtrex?...During the flu symptoms? Is there anything I can do? *Sidenote.. This will be my 4th outbreak in less than a year...If I opt for suppressive method, will that ease my flu symptoms? Or even banish them? Thank you so much!!
CIDP. Valtrex has been very effective for my herpes. But over the same time span I've started having more episodes, including a number of back to back episodes. A doctor has suggested that the prednisone I was taking for CIDP could have contributed to the increase in frequency. This seems possible, although I went through one previous 7 month course of prednisone without an increase in herpes episodes.
In the meantime she gave me a perscription for Valtrex to relieve the symptoms I'm having. I know the blood test checks for antibodies to the virus and that is how they give you a result. Is it possible to not have herpes, but taking Valtrex can make your body produce the antibodies and you get a false positive? I'm worried about taking the drug if I infact don't have herpes.
I was in Las Vegas when I started developing horrible flu like symptoms and started getting open blisters on my testicles. I was perscribed Valtrex (500mg - 2x a day) by my doctor. Within a few days the blisters/sores started drying up and healing. After about a week all I had was a reddish mark. The doctor did a live culture that came back negative for Herpes though. (???) Now it's been a few months and it started to come back.
Your response was it didn't sound like herpes, (onset timing was longer than usual, location for initial was unuasual, and itching length of time was unusual), but more likley a yeast overgrowth caused by all the antibiotics. (2 doses of azithro, 1 7 day dose of levo, and 1 2 gram dose of flagyl) (also 10 day course of valtrex) all given by dr, just in case. I have an appointment scheduled on Wednesday (6 weeks post encounter) with my Dr to check on everything and do the bloodtests.
) I am glad to hear you're off Valtrex for the time being. While off treatment, be alert for localized genital itching or sores; if that happens, see your doc immediately (within a day, if possible) for lesion testing for HSV. Discuss it ahead of time with your doc, so the office is prepared to see you the same day without an appointment. As for lysine, arginine, etc -- it's quackery.
After suffering from both viruses attacking me at the same time every 2 weeks for about a year, I broke down and saw my gyno because she was the only one who would half way listen. She prescribed me 1000mg of valtrex a day for suppressive therapy. I started with only taking 250mg because I wanted to see if a lower dose would be effective.. Presto...no more outbreaks....for 9 months. Then fast forward to now.
I have had genital herpes for six years now and have had two healthy vaginal deliveries during this time. Both my husband and I have it. Not sure who gave it to whom but that's not the point. I hate it! I used to take Valtrex 1 gm daily now I don't take anything because it didn't really help. I get an outbreak every month it seems around my period time and it lasts for two weeks. It hurts and makes me feel like I have the flu. I'm griping about it, plain and simple.

I had not been feeling more tired than usual, nor did I have any flu-like symptoms in the past few weeks. He gave me nothing for the pain, just a prescription for antibiotics to clear up my bladder infection and he started me on a form of Valtrex to help with my 'genital herpes'. He sent off the test and I'm due to expect the results soon.
On the 12th SEP 08 I had what seemed like sudden flu symptoms; fever, sweating, dry cough dizziness, and fatigue, most symptoms generally lasted for a week, I showed my doctor a –one month old- urine test that showed bacteria, he prescribed Cipro., during the treatment, one morning after taking the Cipro, I vomited and felt better, after which I noticed what seemed like thrush on the middle of my tongue, I have taken antibiotics before which never caused thrush..
At this point, what can i expect? The Dr. put me on Valtrex for 7 days to treat this outbreak, what can i expect in the future though. As far as sexually, if we are both positive, what precaustions do we still need to take? I feel completely tainted by this and am feeling like if i do have sex again, i will just want to get up and scrub my hands and my sheets, lol i know that sounds stupid, but i am completely freaked out by this diagnosis.
so, it seems that condoms don't really make a huge difference if the woman is taking daily Valtrex, for example. What about the reverse (negative woman, positive man, taking daily suppression, without or with condoms)??? ---It seems like you have a lot of hands-on experience with HSV. That said, do you think that a woman could have an initial outbreak on the buttock or thigh? If so, how commonly does it occur, in your experience?
that you can get a blood test later to prove it. They are pretty bold. I hope it's alright to post this. Frequently asked questions Q: Is this a one time detox? A: Yes once you have completed the mineral detox you will be herpes virus free. Q: Does the mineral detox eliminate oral herpes HSV1 & or genital herpes HSV2? A: Yes back to health minerals will eliminate both types of HSV, HSV1 & HSV2 at the same time. Q: Do the minerals have any bad side effects?
she looked at it under the microscope and didn't see herpes, she said most the time they do not. Then she wrote me out a perscription for valtrex and gave me cream. They took my blood again. I am a mess, I cant stop crying and I don't understand. I had two blood tests and no sexual contact in more then 6 months. Why would the blood test June 1st be negative?!?!? Im so mad at myself, and confused and emotional.
How long will I feel sick? The whole course or what? I'm Valtrex and was wondering if I should also take the steroids my doc gave me. My case dosen't seem that bad. The lesions are in a cluster the size of a golf ball. I'm not in much pain, just tired of feeling sick. Any info will help. I hate to run back to the doctor just for questions.
Look I have had HSV2 for 10 plus years and if I am not on Valtrex I get an OB almost every month. I have had 2 long term girlfriends and have had unprotected sex 100's of times with them and never gave it to either of them. If you are really worried it have her go on Valtrex, it's expencive as hell but it will cut down on the risk big time. Personaly I think getting a BJ with a condom is worthless and if its a girl you care about it's worth the risk.
that I have many places all over my body, skin tags, etc. The doctor blurts out Herpes. So he gave me Valtrex prescription, and sent me for blood tests, and took cultures, etc. I was last tested on January 11, 2011 and I am still testing negative for cultures and IgG blood tests. I haven't had any blisters or "outbreaks", but I have this constant tingling!!! How much longer will it take to test positive if I have herpes? What else could this be if not herpes?
Being more confident about this is exactly why you should avoid Valtrex for now, so you can have an accurate picture of the potential for recurrence and transmission.
He said it could been a reaction do to strees and guilt of the encounter I'm on valtrex now it's been 2 1/2 weeks and in still feeling flu like symptoms. I feel weak and headache, feeling of ill no fever no chills. My question is 1. During oral sex could there have been holes in the condom before going to anal sex? 2. When cleaning myself with soap and water could it have went inside my urethra? I'm not sure of its my outbreak that causing my symptoms or if its something else.
It kind of feels very full and fluidy and makes me slightly dizzy for a split second. Actually the best way to describe it is it feels loud. But if touch the same spot on my right side it feels normal.
I have all the symptoms except for the flu/tiredness/sores. Best of luck to you and thanks for posting and UPDATING. It has been frustrating to read through posts and they all are cliffhangers......

i have read the handbook but im still confused... Valtrex (valacyclovir) This FDA approved medicine may be used for first outbreaks, recurrent outbreaks and suppression and is also approved to reduce transmission of genital herpes from an infected person to an uninfected one. First time outbreaks: 1000 mg twice a day for ten days. Recurrent outbreaks: 500 mg twice a day for three days. Suppression: 1000 mg once a day for people who have 10 or more outbreaks per year.
There are several of us on here who have a similar eye complaint: seeing a bright flash, like the afterimage of a flash bulb, when we blink, and sometimes, on upgaze. This is transient symptom for most of us, lasting anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. When the "spot" in our visual field passes over a dark background, the spot appears light. When the spot passes over a light background, it appears dark.
you said antibiotics - was it actually acyclovir or valtrex? also make sure your gyn tests you properly for vaginitis ( bv especially is very common with genital herpes ) as well as you and your partner should seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing. I'd definitely take the time to write a letter of complaint to the clinic you were seen at - call and find out if they have a complaint line to call or find out who the clinic manager is and get their email.
A week later I had flu like symptoms and went to see my urologist who looked and said, herpes and gave me 1 gram of Valtrex 2x a day for 10 days. 10 days later the problem was growing and expanding to various points all over my penis. I went back to my primary doctor and he increased me to Valtrex 2 grams 2 x day for 7 days. After 18 days on Vatrex and 5 weeks since the first symptom, it is still not cleared (it would be primary infection).
