During the lesions, I had a PCR test which was negative but I was already on valtrex so I thought that might alter the test. I remained on valtrex for six months and then took the blood test for igg antibodies. I was negative for both types of hsv but again thought the valtrex was the issue so I stopped the valtrex and two months later redid the igg test which again was negative. Now at 11 months post infection I had the university of Washington western blot done and this too was negative.
m a gay male and messed up/ had an unprotected dry humping incident about 3 nights ago. Now my perianal skin has been burning/hot feeling and I have had some flu like symptoms.. No rash or blisters but does this sounds like an upcoming herpes infection? I am on Prep so HIV isn't too much of a concern esp since there wasn't penetration... Would an urgent care script me some valtrex if I voice my concern ? Awkward visit...
I believe that I was exposed to HSV2 about 8 days ago. I had flu-like symptoms for 5-6 days, but have not developed any sores, yet. However, I do have three small painless whitish 'bumps' on my penis. If I started taking Valtrex now, would that minimize my chances for a bad first outbreak? If so, should I be taking 1000 mg 2x a day or just once? Thanks!
Dr called. Tests came back negative for yeast infection/bv/trioch. Now I'm terrified it's Herpes.
I started UTI Rx yesterday evening, along with the Valtrex she prescribed "just incase". Still burns when I pee though not as bad. the biggest complaint is I just feel very raw down there. Hurts to wipe. She did see a tear, so I'm guessing that would be the cause for the hurt. Isn't there an ointment or something that helps that, or will it heal on its own?
I have had genital herpes for six years now and have had two healthy vaginal deliveries during this time. Both my husband and I have it. Not sure who gave it to whom but that's not the point. I hate it! I used to take Valtrex 1 gm daily now I don't take anything because it didn't really help. I get an outbreak every month it seems around my period time and it lasts for two weeks. It hurts and makes me feel like I have the flu. I'm griping about it, plain and simple.
It's strange how symptoms differ from person to person. I got infected with HSV2 almost a year back. I've always had burning sensation in my penis since day one, not even valtrex has helped. It's like i'm on a daily outbreak. I can't recall ever having flu, blisters or sores. I also had terrible diarrhoea for 2 weeks from day one. Muscle and joint aches set in after two months of infection but stopped.
I was extremely itchy and had flu-like symptoms a couple days after intercourse so I went to my doctor worried about an STD. I was tested for everything, and while I was waiting for the test results I had a swollen lymph node in my groin form. When my doctor told me the next week I was clear of all stds, I told her about the lymph node. She thinks I've contracted herpes but isn't positive. I'm to wait until March to do another blood test for herpes.
Blood work 4 months later came out negative for HSV2, and I was not taking valtrex. I had about 3 blood tests. The outbreaks now are very mild, where no swab test can be done. It is just some burning sensation that still come sometimes. The outbreaks are a small red dot. I also got an outbreak where I scratched while having sex, it was in a different place. I am not sure if I should mention this to future partners, or just use a condom. As if it is anything, it is HSV1, caught from myself.
Why can people have HSV for so long and never know it? Is it more common than not for symptoms to be so slight that a male would not notice? If symptoms are so slight, does this mean the initial outbreak has not happened yet?? What are the female to male transmission odds without condoms while on Valtrex?
What I am going to concentrate on now is on getting the pain from the vulvodynia under control (she prescribed a tricyclic drug for nerve pain) and watching closely to see if I get any more of the flu-like symptoms now that I am not taking the Valtrex.
I do have two questions for you:
1. When we were discussing GHSV1 she said even if that was the cause of the current vuvlvodynia, HSV1 is really NO big deal..........
Two weeks passed and I still had this weird tingling sensation in my penis (No cold or flu symptoms) so I went back to the clinic for another inspection. I was then told by the doctor he thought it could be HSV in my urethra, took two swab tests and gave me a 5 day course of Valtrex. I will get the results of the swabs in a weeks time.
A week has now passed and I have now completed the coures of valtrex.
is it possible that my boyfriend who gets cold sores is infecting me with the virus causing me to break out even though i'm taking 1 gram of valtrex a day for mollarets he also takes it for breakouts, i worry that we keep giving it back and forth to each other i am very careful about skin contact and anything else that i think the virus is living on like bedding the sink we share etc.
Diagnosed with shingles Wednesday night - went to doctor same day symptoms started as they were significant. Started Valtrex. Have bumps on lower back near sciatic nerve on left side and on left thigh following nerve line. Entire thigh dull to touch but high pain (throbbing, etc). Pain on site at back. Also high pain, burning on left hip, stomach, behind knee. Friday morning noticed third patch of bumps on thigh (more inward) and an increase of bumps on first set of thigh bumps.

I've recently been diagnosed with Genital HSV-1. I have a few questions I am unclear about. I'm currently on 500mg of Valtrex daily because I do not want to risk transmitting this to my partner. My first question is, how likely is it that this will be passed on to my partner genitally? Is it even a possibility, or can it only be transmitted to his mouth? Secondly, if I stop taking the Valtrex daily does this mean I should expect more outbreaks?

I eventually stopped getting outbreaks for almost a year until I moved to an Arab country for work. Due to the hot weather and stress in addition to some other factors, I started getting recurrent outbreaks again but this time not on my lip, but down on the genital area and on my uvula (just today) and I'm suspecting it to be caused by HSV. I'm freaking out and feeling extremely down..
recurrences shed for less time in general and the valtrex decreased shedding even more. at this point you need to follow up on this properly with a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your status is. If it's only hsv1+, unless you can recall a history of cold sores, the best thing to do is if you get a recurrence again, be seen within 48 hours for culturing and don't start any valtrex at all until after the culture to try to rule out hsv1 genitally too.

t know which one I have, I was diagnosed in 1989 a young girl in college and I am pretty sure that it was some type of swap test. Yes I am on daily Valtrex. I really appreciate you clarifying that for me. We were both hoping that it was just the common cold and like I said it has been such a long time that I went through it, I simply did not know.
Your valtrex should've been 1gm 2x/day for 7-10 days, not 500mg.
Only time will tell where your recurrences will be at.
I am already diagnosed with HSV-2 and take Valacyclovir (Valtrex) 500mg daily. After some reading online, it seems that this medication may delay the HIV seroconversion. Does this mean that HIV symptoms would also be delayed or minimized?
I understand that I will not be sure until I take an HIV test, but I am hoping for some peace of mind until I get tested at the 3 month mark.
that I have many places all over my body, skin tags, etc. The doctor blurts out Herpes. So he gave me Valtrex prescription, and sent me for blood tests, and took cultures, etc. I was last tested on January 11, 2011 and I am still testing negative for cultures and IgG blood tests. I haven't had any blisters or "outbreaks", but I have this constant tingling!!! How much longer will it take to test positive if I have herpes? What else could this be if not herpes?
I started taking Valtrex for Herpes2, and I feel anxious,depressed, and I have been waking up with bad headaches in the middle of the night. I don't know if it is all in my head, because I just tested postive for this, and I have been dealing with this for about 15 yrs. I am still shocked. I have been to several doctors who blew it off as a yeast infection. Does anyone know of any alternatives that work?
a few numb / tingling sensations felt in left leg. physician called in perscription for Valtrex since I was about to leave town for 5 days. began taking valtrex 2x daily
day 7-12 - flu-like symptoms esentially gone. burning in urethra and pin-***** / hot sensation in glans of penis persisted. a few numb / tingling sensations in arms and hands one day. Groin lymph nodes became increasingly swollen. whole lower abdominal area became puffy looking with general feeling of being bloated.
ve not had a virus, cold, etc for at least 4 years with the exception of 5/09 when all of the swine flu was going around...I tested negative for the flu but had a 102 fever for 6 days. I have had severe allergies my whole life.
I thank you so much and appreciate any information that you can give me. I'm willing to do almost anything to figure this out.
