valtrex

Avatar f tn Does anyone have a better rem. For cold sores. Had one at around 8 weeks for 3-5 weeks. Can't get anything to work. Now at 20 weeks and its taking off again. Soc ordered abreva, tired most everything I use prior to pregnancy. Nada.

Avatar m tn Thankfully, he tested negative for the virus. I actually did not have breakouts during my pregnancy (they had decreased in number considerably as I entered adulthood), but after he was born/while I was breastfeeding, I was having outbreaks practically one on top of the other (likely exacerbated by some dental work I had done, along with hormonal fluctuations, stress, and lack of sleep). Anyhow, at the prompting of several doctors who cared for my son, I went on the suppressive therapy.
Avatar f tn Hi! A few years ago I became very ill, during that time I developed cold sores. Since then I get one at most two cold sores by my nose a year. I am now 14 weeks pregnant and pretty much then entire time I have had a horrible cough then about two weeks later I got a cold sore. I didn't think much of it, but here we are weeks later and I have had at least 6! I have had a cold sore every single day in some stage of healing for weeks! I told the maternity care specialist at my appointment.
Avatar n tn However, ever since December 2009 I have been experiencing chronic outbreaks of cold sores. I sought medical attention this past February and was put on Valtrex. I noticed that the sores were getting more severe around the time of my period. Several doctors told me that going on a low hormone birth control (ortho tri cyclen lo) would be the solution. It has definitely decreased the severity of the sores during the time of my period.
127596 tn?1210922622 Rather than blowing up about it, I came home and did some research. But I was sad to find that Valtrex is only prescribed for Simplex I, Simplex II and Zosters. So I asked her about it (via instant message - is that bad?). She said she gets cold sores sometimes, and the Valtrex gets rid of them quickly. Indeed I remembered that the empty bottle was for a seven-day dosage. But in all of the times that I've seen her, I never noticed a cold sore.
Avatar f tn She suggested doubling my acyclovir dose until then. For cold sores after delivery, she recommends a high dose of valtrex and being very careful around the baby.
Avatar n tn Cold sores usually appear within a day or two of the preliminary symptoms starting. Yes, a cold sore could be dangerous to a newborn, that is correct. Be careful not to kiss a newborn with a cold sore. Also, be CERTAIN not to give your partner oral sex during the last trimester of the pregnancy. HSV 1 can be transmitted to the genitals and result in genital HSV 1 infection, and during the last weeks of pregnancy, this can be very difficult for mom and baby.
Avatar n tn Valtrex has been recognized to be useful in both Genital Herpes as well as Cold sores. However, it id not approved for suppression of Cold sores as you have asked. Therefore you may not take this drug in a such fashion. Cold sores are also known as Herpes Labialis and are caused by reactivation of latent Herpes viruses. Hope this helped. let me know if you may need any more information.
Avatar m tn When you were sick, did you test for covid? Did you recently get a covid vaccine? We've had reports from people that having covid and/or getting the vax can trigger herpes sores, and it can be really hard to get them under control. Are you taking the Valtrex daily, as suppression? That would be my suggestion after you see the doc and get it confirmed that these are indeed hsv1 outbreaks.
Avatar m tn i have found that cold sores go away quickly if you take lysine (you can find it in the vitamin section)
Avatar f tn I have had horrible cold sores for 14 years. B4 that, nothing. My initial outbreak was on my nose. Huge blister massive facial swelling that led to hospitalization for a month and diagnosed with herpes encephalitis. Since then only massive blisters, size of a plum. Cannot see shape of nose. When out brake frms on my lip it's so large it swells to the bottom of my chin. B4 I would have an out brake once a year, now it's almost every month.
Avatar f tn I've had cold sores almost my whole pregnancy my doctor prescribed me valtrex and it helps somewhat but I also use abriva.
Avatar m tn I have suffered from cold sores for about 8 years, with at least two outbreaks a year. I recently had a baby, and she will be 7 weeks old tomorrow. I am incredibly stressed out though because I have struggled with cold sores since her birth, getting one right after the other. I understand that my daughter should be protected by my antibodies until 3-6 months, and that they are very protective, but may not be 100%. I have been very careful not to kiss her and to wash my hands before I touch her.
Avatar f tn Also, if you can identify when you outbreak exactly then take good care of yourself during that time. Like for myself, I caught it this year and my outbreaks tend to be triggered by menstruation. So, I make sure to tone it down and sleep and eat well around then to not add any further stressors to my body around then.
Avatar n tn Also started using a lot more chapstick on unaffected parts of my lip to keep them unchapped. My doctor suggested we should stay on the Valtrex reigment for a few more weeks, and if that is ineffective, then we can switch to an alternative called Famvir? I've HIV/STD negative btw. I'm just frusturated. I have a potential new gf that I haven't been able to kiss for almost 2 months, and this thing refuses to go away.
Avatar f tn When I was a few years younger, I had a boyfriendfor over year that gave me herpes (always forget what type but it's the kind that are usually cold sores on your.face). My doctor says it won't be a problem with the birth as long as I take a suppression treatment (valtrex, or generic for about a month prior to due date once a day).
Avatar m tn At first I was getting cold sores about every 4 to 6 weeks. I then started taking 500 mg of Valtrex daily for suppression therapy. This seemed to reduce the frequency of my outbreaks to about once every 2 to 3 months. To save money, my insurance switched me to acyclovir (400 mg twice a day) with similar results as the Valtrex. Then starting about 3 months ago, I began to have outbreaks every two weeks even with the suppression therapy.
Avatar f tn Tell ur Dr they can give u valtrex it gets rid of them immediately I know it's for genital herpes but it also wrks for cold sores I was the same as u my Dr said it's just ur hormones so she called that in for me.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if while I am on this it would also prevent an oral herpes outbreak? I am not sure if I even get cold sores, however I often do get sores on the hard palate of my mouth and I wonder if they could be herpes, since they usually occur in the same location. Thank you.
Avatar m tn It really sounds like a cold sore, which is a form of herpes. although I am impressed your doctor didn't already know this. Does it always come to the same area of your lip? Ask your doctor about cold sores. If it's that, then you need a prescription of Valtrex or Zovirax to keep them from showing up. Also, don't be embarrassed. 95% of the world population is exposed to herpes by the time they are 18, and 30% of them get cold sores. Annoying and ugly, but very common.
Avatar m tn 1) I have the beginnings of a cold sore on the lip. For Valacyclovir and Valtrex the recommended dosage is 2000mg every 12 hours...total of 4000mg in 24 hours. I have 2000mg of Valtrex and 2000mg Valacyclovir from prior outbreaks. Can I take them together for the some effect? Or do I need to take the 4000mg total dose with the same drug? 2) I am getting cold sores on the lip up to 3 times a year. There is no common catalyst. Each outbreak if not treated early is as severe as all the rest.
Avatar n tn I am a 30-year-old female who has been tested for Herpes many times. Fortunately, a year after my last sexual encounter, I've received negative IGG results for both HSV I and II. I am now dating a man who just received negative IGG results for HSV II, but positive results for HSV I. Unfortunately, we didn't know his status until after we engaged in unprotected oral sex (three or four times).
Avatar f tn I tested positive for oral HSV type 1 which I had anticipated due to my cold sores I have had recurrently since childhood. Honestly, not until recently did I actually believe that my "cold sores" were due to herpes, I always believed this was a myth. I woke up on Saturday the 22 of March with a cold sore on the corner of my lip and immediately applied the abreva cream I carry around. I used it for the first 2 days and then left it alone.
Avatar f tn Cold urticaria and cold sores are totally different things. As you know, cold urticaria is caused by a reaction to cold exposure, but cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex type 1 (hsv1) virus. Hsv1 can be triggered by lots of things, including other illnesses and cold. So while they aren't related, they might be triggered by the same things.
Avatar n tn Talk to your doctor about having a prescription for acyclovir or valtrex on hand so that if you start feeling an itch or tingling on your lips like a cold sore might be starting , you can take the cold sore dose ( 1 day ) to help ward it off or at least speed healing of it. Lots of info on cold sores on the valtrex website under the cold sore section for more reading.
