Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex and headaches

valtrex

Hi I have been taking valtrex 500 mg every day for suppression of HSV1 for about a month and a half now. I have been getting headaches in my temples a lot and honestly don't know if it is because of that. I also am on birth control and have been for the past three years but did just chance from ortho tri cyclen lo to regular ortho tri cyclen, about three months ago. Do you have any advice? I am in college and these headaches make it very hard to study. Thank you!
The side effects of the valtrex seem to be diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, headaches and lack of appetite. The symptoms were prevalent before beginning the valtrex. Does this mean I was too late in starting the valtrex or does it not help with already noticeable symptoms? and is just for suppressing symptoms before they can be noticeable? Also these symptoms have been in full force for about 3 weeks.
5 weeks after the encounter i took a blood test and the next day after i had an ultrasound done a cluster of 3 bumps/blisters appeared. I went to the doctor that day and he said it was herpes and gave valtrex. After taking more tests the doctor said he didnt care what the blood results said....he saw what he saw. I took the valtrex the next day and the bumps seemed to go away around 2 days after the inital appearance.
There are somewhat serious conditions where viruses and bacteria can cross the barrier and impact the brain causing headaches. This is rare in the first instance and even rarer for HSV2 to be the cause. Hence this will be extremely likely to unrelated to HSV2. I would still have your follow up IgG testing at 12 weeks to identify whether you do have HSV2, which also remains in doubt.
if I take it for an extended period, my arms and legs get a bit red and rashy. Might Famvir be any different? Could I take valtrex paired with an antihistamine like claritin or benadryl to alleviate the allergy symptoms? It appears I can't live without it at this point in time and would gladly take a rash over what I'll experience otherwise.
Hello there, I am a 52 yo perimenopausal female and am trying to come off valtrex. I contracted HSV2 in 1989 and did not have any further OBs until a pregnancy in 1995. After the birth of my second child in 2001, I was having monthly OBs so began suppressive therapy (500g daily). In 2010 I was diagnosed with chronic idiopathic neutropenia (I don't know the actual neutrophil count, just that it was low enough for me to have to see a hematologist).
I went back to my doctor and he gave me the same perscription of valtrex. I'm on the 5th day and it is doing NOTHING. The sores just keep getting worse and worse and the pain isn't going away. The extra strength Tylenol isn't even working anymore. Is it possible I don't have Herpes and I have something else? Is it possible that I'm just resistant to the effects of the valtrex?
constant and loud tinnitus; fog brain; lightheadedness, dizziness, and swooning; headaches; and an overall pressure or tight feeling in my head. I feel depressed and only want to sit when having these symptoms. I look forward to going to bed at night to escape living with this. Recently, I've begun to get up with a stiff neck. Some days it will wear off and some days it stays with me. I started these symptoms when I was in my mid 40's. It started with dizziness.
i have generic valtrex but i also have chronic migraine and i feel the valtrex gives me a headache. do u get side effects from valtrex?
This could certainly cause severe headaches. Look at the films again with your docs.Second, I have seen younger patients (teens and 20 year olds) who suddenly started to get horrible positional headaches following sports injuries in which someone tackled them to the ground in a touch football game, etc... They turned out to have a CSF leak in their lower back because of a tear. With a blood patch, they came back to normal. Abnormal heart rates can also cause headaches.
3 weeks ago I started feeling really ill, I got a very sore throat with swollen glands in my throat, headaches, etc.. a week later i got a cold sore. I was prescribed a two day dosage of valtrex and it went away, but my sore throat never did, this past week i have been freaking out about genital hsv1 because my lymph nodes in my groin were tender, i had pain/ numbness in my left leg from my butt to my knee, but so far no blister, no painful urination, no tingling in vaginal area.....

I asked my Neurologist and he had the Herpes Virus AB profile run and found my HSV IGG to be >4.84 and the IgM positive. I am taking 1 Gm. valtrex 3x/day. Was this the proper test to run? What is the long term therapy recommendation?
Over the years, along with the canker sores, I've had genital lesions, rectal fistulas, pustular skin lesions, eye redness and blurriness, migraine headaches, ocular migraines, chronic hematuria, and a negative herpes culture. The only time in the past 25 years that I've been canker sore free is during my 3 pregnancies. I had 2 biopsies taken from my mouth and the biopsy report indicates that it's likely erythema multiforme.
Sometimes it the information on the internet can be confusing, because some web sites say that stinging, headaches, and etc. is a symptom of herpes and others say another thing.. Also, my test results shows HSV genital is out of picture. I just wanted to make sure I did not have false negative results..Thanks.. Lastly, just for my education. When HSV is shedding what are the chances of it spreading through skin-to-skin contact. Thank you, Marco Happy Holidays..
It's a two way street and you can't make educated decisions until you know who has what. Lastly, with valtrex and condoms it's a 99% chance annually that you won't transmit the virus to him! Those are incredibly good odds, and surely not worth walking away from a relationship - although to each his own if he can't deal with it. Discordant couples can go a lifetime without transmitting it!
Subject: Change in headaches - Neuralgia? Forum: The Neurology and Neurosurgery Forum Dear Doctor, I am a 28 year old female with a sudden change in headache type. I have had migraine headaches on the left side of my head since I was 14 years old. Generally, they were infrequent and manageable with Midrin (first) and later, Esgic Plus (used sparingly, since one prescription lasted 6 months+).
Shortly after this, I became pregnant and had virtually no headaches during this pregnancy, or while nursing. In December '98, just more than a year after my baby was born, my headaches seemed to become more frequent, but still manageable. In Jan. '99, I awoke with a different type of headache, which has never gone away! I experience a daily pain, which centers around my left eye, but is a burning sensation (unlike my migrain pain).

But in that 1% of the time that it doesn't help -- the pain is severe and breathtaking, causing sleeplessness, headaches and other symptoms. and there is no cure for it but my doc put me on high doses of valtrex (herpe)medicine and it helps. I have had the virus for 18 years, I know it was all the mercury fillings I had. I can give you a referral to a physician who can help you. Stop eating any fish for now! There is detox protocol..Dont let a dentist put any into your teeth either. You have a good chance of beating it...you have got to do the work..Dont let them tell you that its in your head. Its a common virus...
Hi All, I got tested for STDs after 3 days of exposure through Quest and HSV2 came back positive with a 3.81 (high) and HSV1 abnormal with <0.90. Exact wordings are below HSV 1/2 IGG, HERPESELECT TYPE SPECIFIC AB HSV 1 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB <0.90 index () 5206-8 Abnormal HSV 1/2 IGG, HERPESELECT TYPE SPECIFIC AB HSV 2 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB 3.87 index () 5209-2 Abnormal I then got tested 3 days later at Labcorp and they tell me I am negative for both.
I went to Planned Parenthood and had a visual exam. The doctor did not believe the rash was consistent with genital herpes and thought it could be hives due to my stress level. I was prescribed valtrex anyway due to the fact that I was starting a new relationship and I was concerned it would turn sexual and I did not want to expose another person to HSV2. I started to feel better about my situation and did start a new sextual relationship.
(1)Considering the test results, does is seem more likely that I have oral herpes, based on headaches, swollen lips and lack of genital symptoms? (I do intend to retest.) (2)Can a person have both oral and genital HSV2, or only one or the other? (3)Does oral HSV2 shed asymptomatically? If not, is oral HSV2 something that should be discussed before kissing? What about oral HSV1? Does it shed and should it be discussed before kissing?
(I am also a runner 5-10 miles runs and 25miles/week) took anti inflammatories then levaquin for pain and possible soft prostate - from uroligist ) then after a fall running (dont think I hit my head by definetly fell on both my hands and kicked a piece of ice with my right big toe) I had head neuralgia eye pain and tonge pain 1st PCF thought I had herpes and prescribed valtrex -but I may have pushed for that diagnosis (I have been very scared I had herpes then with buring hands and feet I thou
5 months ,HIV EIA test, HEP A-C, urinalysis, ESR, TSH, lyme, CBC all normal. But overall I have had groin pain, anal pain and thigh pain and low back pain on and off for first three months leg pain continuous in varying degrees of discomfort.
It started with dizziness (feeling faint and lightheaded and can't balance standing up, but no feeling of room spinning) and headaches. It progressively got worse for about 10 days to a point where i barely could get out of bed. I finally went to a hospital and was observed overnight. I got a CT scan because i had alteration in consciousness and diagnosis was chronic sinusitis. I was prescribed sinus rinses and a regimen of z-pack. I felt those treatments didn't work.
Cytomegalovirus caused muscle twitching fasciculations, muscle spasms, heat and cold sensitivity, myopathy, aches and pains, spine pain, sleep disorders, major exercise intolerance, headaches, light sensitivity .... etc. This went on for at least 4 months before it began to subside. Fortunately, and with zero help from any of my doctors, I was smart enough to discover that I had a recent CMV infection, and I monitored my bloodwork as the symptoms began to improve.
There are some people who make a full recovery with a chronic EBV diagnosis, but many and the majority... do not. I highly recommend checking out our health pages: http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?
I had a break out and was a bit sick for a few days with dizziness, dry eyes, upset stomach etc. The break out went away and I was still having daily headaches, burning sensations on my head, face and eyes. My doctor sent my to a Neurologist that had me get a MRI of my brain. The MRI was clear for suspected meningitis. The area that I had a break out was around my anus and my tailbone has been sore as well.
He used the IgM results when they came in to give me diagnosis. That was when I went to you because I was having horrible headaches and neck pains and lower back pains since first OB, even with no outer symptoms. valtrex didn’t help. My inside mouth and throat hurt and I had terrible pain in my urethra off and on every week.
