If this doesn't work in a few weeks, talk to your doctor about a stronger vaginal estrogen for a short course to see if that will help and then going back to the vagifem and replens to sustain it. Machelle M.
There is a very good non hormonal treatment for this problem called Replens. It is sold in the women's section of most drugstores and retail mass merchandising stores like Wal-Mart. Use it daily for one week then twice per week afterward. About 20% of women who use it notice a small amount of white discharge. It is not an infection but the shedding of lining cells of the vaginal that are coated with the Replens. Most women feel better in a very short while.
I am 54 yrs. of age and have been period free for 8 yrs. Within the last year and a half I have been seeking treatment for horrible burning inside and out of the vaginal area. My doctor has done many tests and has said that I have vaginal atrophy (sp) and told me to use replens. She also recommended Prempro as I still have a uterus. I no longer have health insurance and can't afford the prempro and the replens DOESN"T work.
For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
I've been on Anastroloze for 10 months and using Replens....helps some but not completely. Still painful during intercourse. I have read that patients get differing advice from their gyn doctor and their oncologist about using prescription products for this problem that contain estrogen. I was on Vagifem prior to my cancer diagnosis and it was very helpful for vaginal dryness. Has anyone been able to use a moisturizer like Replens with a lubricant without getting irritation or reactions?
After a few months I started experiencing burning after sex and pain during sex. I went to the gyno and got tested for all the STDs and was totally fine. I stopped having sex for awhile and then we started again about 2 months ago being really careful. Everything was getting better, but then last Monday we had sex twice in a row and it really hurt the second time and has been hurting since. It's a constant stinging and itching and intense irritation that won't go away.
The blood spot was apparently from me. I guess the risk is LOW....but I wondered if I would recognize symptoms within days...and what are the symptoms. I feel better knowing that it's basically blood to blood. I do take immune boosters and a host of other herbs to keep my body healthy.
I used a three-day vaginal treatment but my symptoms continued. I went to my doctor and was tested for STDs (including herpes) and yeast/BV infections, all of which came back negative. My doctor did a vaginal exam and could see nothing irregular and nothing that looked like a sore or lesion. My symptoms continue to reoccur every month. The only time I really feel any relief is during my period and the week following. I have been back to the doctor for two more visits with the same result.
I was checked in December 2005 by my general practitioner for STDs and HIV. All the rest results came back normal and/or negative. The smell and discharge decreased; almost faded totally away. But now in January 2006, although I have not had intercourse since November 2005, I began smelling the smell again and the discharge has increased. It has changed in its look and consistency. It has been white, milky, but lately it has been somewhat watery.
