Your doctor's advice is surprising to me, also. I'm guessing that s/he is not a diabetes specialist and that's the type of physician who should be guiding your diabetes care. Specialists might be called endocrinologist or diabetologist.
None of us here is a physician, but we're long-time diabetics or care-givers for diabetic children.
You didn't mention if you've been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2, and the treatment options vary for these types.

I would not use drugs to control diabetes unless it is the last resort. Once Metformin (which has many, many BAD side affects) and insulin become a part of your daily regiment often more drugs follow due to blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. If I were you, I'd research using Berberine, a natural supplement. The Mayo clinic website has good information about Berberine. Berberine has been proven to reduce blood sugar levels as well as, if not better than Metformin.

Maybe I am being a wishful thinker, but from what I have read the Mayo Clinic gives a positive result if the HSV-2 is 1 or even as high as 3.0. Am I wrong? I mean it is teh Mayo Clinic, so I am pretty much certain of the test's accuracy, but I would like to know the value because I have never had an outbreak. I was tested because a girlfriend of mine had an outbreak.
I asked my GP for the detailed results, he said it was an up or down test.
