Avatar n tn Hello Candikane, Your doctor's advice is surprising to me, also. I'm guessing that s/he is not a diabetes specialist and that's the type of physician who should be guiding your diabetes care. Specialists might be called endocrinologist or diabetologist. None of us here is a physician, but we're long-time diabetics or care-givers for diabetic children. You didn't mention if you've been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2, and the treatment options vary for these types.

Avatar n tn I would not use drugs to control diabetes unless it is the last resort. Once Metformin (which has many, many BAD side affects) and insulin become a part of your daily regiment often more drugs follow due to blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. If I were you, I'd research using Berberine, a natural supplement. The Mayo clinic website has good information about Berberine. Berberine has been proven to reduce blood sugar levels as well as, if not better than Metformin.
Avatar n tn The risk of type 1 diabetes in the general population is 1 percent to 2 percent. If the mother has type 1 diabetes, the risk for the child is 2 percent to 4 percent. If the father has it, the risk is 6 percent to 8 percent. They say the age at which the parent developed diabetes matters as well. The younger the age, the greater the risk that the child will get the disease.

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes has been reported to be 14–50% in patients with chronic HCV infection [62]. HCV-associated diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance and does not appear to be associated with antibodies directed towards the beta cells in the islets of Langerhans [63].

Avatar m tn I see you have the word 'diabetes' crossed. Diabetes is a Greek word meaning large amounts of urine. Both diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus fall into this realm but both are separate mechanisms. This forum deals mostly with type 2 diabetes, people who have high blood sugar levels [mellitus]. Diabetes insipidus is kidney related. For best answers, the forum to post on is Kidney Disease & Disorders.

Avatar n tn Maybe I am being a wishful thinker, but from what I have read the Mayo Clinic gives a positive result if the HSV-2 is 1 or even as high as 3.0. Am I wrong? I mean it is teh Mayo Clinic, so I am pretty much certain of the test's accuracy, but I would like to know the value because I have never had an outbreak. I was tested because a girlfriend of mine had an outbreak. I asked my GP for the detailed results, he said it was an up or down test.
