Tramadol side effects on dogs

Common Questions and Answers about Tramadol side effects on dogs

ultracet

They were all side effects of this drug and withdrawing from it is worse than the side effects, but I am not going to be held hostage to a drug. I rue the day that I asked my GP to prescribe it - and he very willingly gave it to me. Only two good things have come of it - I reverse diagnosed myself and realized all the aches and pains and cold sensitivity are probably due to fibromyalgia (I fit all the symptoms) and I've lost some 12 lbs I've been wanting to get rid of for years :-).
I have been on and off of tramadol for 10 years and I don't have any side affects that I know of unless I'm not taking enough of them to cause side effects. Do you know if there is anything else to take that isn't addictive to ease the symptoms of withdrawal? I commend you for "cold turkey", I did it once and I just don't think I could go through that again. You may be right though, having any Percs or Tramadol in the house, would totally keep me from getting off them.
especially the lack of support for you at the time. I'm glad you have found some relief for your tramadol side effects. I can't help wondering if the fear of not sleeping is more related to the tramadol than anything else. Before tramadol, I had never had trouble sleeping but in withdrawal, I developed what can only be be described as an obsession about my failure to sleep.
Finally I heard from the vet - she was not concerned and said what I describe are common side effects. She agreed with my lowering the dosage. She said it can take up to 2 weeks for the side effects to subside. There is an emergency place a couple of miles away; which I will take her to if she gets worse, but she has greatly improved in the last 12 hours or so. She can now get up on her own most of the time and seems more alert.
I've had dogs on rimadyl for many years due to arthritis and they never had a problem with it. Tramadol was reserved for post-op pain treatment and only for a few days. Can you give us more information on exactly what kind of pain your chow chow has and any other meds that have been tried? I suspect the seizures while on tramadol may have been a coincidence, but without more information on your dog's case I could be completely wrong.
There was very little to read on the DURATION of initial phenobarbital side effects on the web, and I was very frightened by what I saw. So, here's what happened with my dog. The side effects (which were severe) lasted approximately three weeks. It is possible that they can last this long. Most people say they go away in a day or two, but in very sensitive dogs, it takes much longer. My dog was knocked flat by the loading dose and barely moved for the first couple of days.
Took her to the emergency vet and they prescribed Tramadol and Robaxin (pain and muscle relaxer). Took her to our normal vet on Monday and he said to continue those meds and also gave her a steroid shot. She did well throughout the week... still stiff but seemed to improve. Last night, Thursday, she seemed to be in pain again. She wasn't as bad as she had been on Saturday but was walking stiffly and holding her head oddly again.
and also in transportation of fish. Whether the use is on human beings or on the animals or on fish, tramadol works on the central nervous system and works as a sort of pain killer or stress reducer. In case of human beings, it works on the ยต receptors and thus controls the signal of pain that the nervous system sends to the brain. Thus by controlling the signal, it tries to reduce the pain or stress.
We have opted not to have him put on meds because of his age, the ugly side effects and the fact that they won't cure him. We did buy a homeopathic formula for $45 online and he seems better. This might be wishful thinking on our part, but we feel we are doing something to help him feel more comfortable. I've read that Cushings can involve brain tumors. I believe poodles are prone to Cushings. Is your dog drinking more than usual? Thinking of you tonight.
And I have grown very weary of the zoned-out feeling I get on Tramadol. I feel dumb on it and I feel like a zombie. I feel self-conscious, like it's obvious. And I feel awful because my kids deserve a present mom. My boyfriend deserves a present girlfriend. So, despite reading NUMEROUS horror stories about withdrawal from Tramadol, I started dreaming of stopping.
Without dopamine one may easily feel suicidal. Tramadol takes over the brains dopamine release system so the brain is dependent on Tramadol for it. However, what really differentiates this drug from other opiates is it's anti-depressent type quality and is molecularly similar to Effexor which has SNRI effects. Tramadol's difference from other opiates are related to Tramadol's effect on serotonin and norepinephrine re-uptake.
I have been on tramadol off and on for 3 years. I say off and on because when the scrip run's out is is usually for about 2 weeks, then I get it again. I sure wish I was strong anough to not get the scrip I have coming in 5 or 6 day's. Tapering off, weening yourself is best way, unless ther is ultra rapid detox, which, I do nont know about you, but I KNOW I cannot aford. I do not have a good support team here to help me. My husband is an alcholic (spledd right of course).
Hello & welcome....Don't give up.....There are other choices for pain control......So your Vet sent you away without anything for your dog? I believe what your Vet is saying is no anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drugs like Rimadyl, Metacam, Previcox, etc. because of the way they are processed & possible side effects.....However, that does NOT mean that your dog cannot have just pain medication! My choice would be "Tramadol", but I'm sure there are others....
I opted not to do Prednisone either as I didn't want to deal with the side effects and didn't want the dog to have to deal with them either. He lived just short of 6 months from diagnosis. I hope you get the same . If you have any questions or just want to talk, feel free to PM me. hugs. Nasty diseases!!!
She's getting it somehow. Could be the vet's office--I know dogs with arthritis are given Tramadol. I sometimes ponder this and worry about what kind of hell they may go through without having words to say. What if their owners suddenly decide to switch them to doggy Motrin, thinking the two drugs are similar? Anyway, I'd just support this person however you think is best, without worrying about the source.
You need to contact your Vet asap....these are serious side effects to not be overlooked...good luck.
Anyone out there take ultram/tramadol? This drug has turned me into a tramadol prisoner. I am having a hard time stopping and I know I need to . I have taken this for a long time. First, I was prescribed this med and then I found other ways to get it. Knowbody knows I take it as much as I do. Anyone....have some advice?
Instead she prescribed my Dog Tramadol along with the Rimadyl. She said that by giving him the Tramadol on a daily basis, he would only need 1/2 a tablet of the Rimadyl daily. I questioned her about this and she reassured me that he would do well. My worry is that I've head some terrible things about the Tramadol when used in controlling pain in humans. Addiction to be the worry. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing and can my Dog become addicted to his medication. Plase advise!!!!!!

Hi and Welcome Tramadol Warriors, Please come on in and make yourself comfy. All are welcome.
There's so little on Tramadol or Ultram on the web. Tons on other drugs. Ok so the most alarming part of the Tramadol we would think would be the fact that it is a synthetic opiate. It's a Narcotic. It's just been slipped thru the schedule. The Opiate aspect of Tramadol is why if you google,"Home Opiate Withdrawal," the techniques found there actually do work! But that's not the most alarming part of Tramadol in my case.
