topamax

Avatar n tn can topomax be used for opiate (percocet) withdrawal? I have heard that ultram is good for that but then you are addicted to the ultram. I also heard neurontin is helpful and that topomax is similar so I wondered if anyone had tried topomax for withdrawal.
429209 tn?1224166589 If you are taking phenobarbital to control convulsions or seizures, follow the exact schedule prescribed by your doctor. Phenobarbital can be habit-forming. Do not use phenobarbital for more than 2 weeks if it is being used to help you sleep. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or for a longer time than your doctor tells you to. Tolerance may develop with long-term or excessive use, making the drug less effective. This medication must be taken regularly to be effective.
Avatar n tn You may have increased seizures if you stop taking Topamax suddenly. You will need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely. Contact your doctor if your seizures get worse or you have them more often while taking this medication. You may have thoughts about suicide while taking this medication. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits. Do not miss any scheduled appointments.
Avatar m tn Has anyone who have been prescribed Topamax for their seizures experienced any form of Hair Loss ?
Avatar f tn It would not have been so bad but I landed face first on a concrete floor. I was started on Topamax and thought things were going to start to get better. As far as other medical conditions I have RA and take Darvocet for pain, sometimes daily, sometimes not at all. I also take daily preventative meds for the care of the RA. This Tuesday I had a terrible migraine come on and I tried a new med for break thru headaches, Relapax. I was impressed, it worked in like 30 minutes.
Avatar f tn My daughter is 11 and has scarring in her left temporal lobe and was started on Topamax a year and a half ago. She had had a grand mal seizure, but her main seizures consisted of a funny feeling in her stomach and dizziness. The doctor she was seeing said once she was seizure free for 2 years (she has been seizure free a year and half) she would recommend a second opinion but would like to try taking her off her Topamax. Her doctor has since left the practice and on the last appt.

Avatar f tn Hi, I am currently on an increasing dosage of topamax for suspected seizures - although the seizures are very mild and random. I am not the type of person who likes to take medication and I have had a read on a couple of different forums about topamax and there seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding the drug with some pretty scary side effects. Can anyone enlighten me with some success stories?? Thanks, from New Zealand!
Avatar f tn I am not sure if anyone can help me out with this but I have a friend that is on Topamax (Topiramate) for seizures and she just found out she is 7 weeks pregnant. She had been pregnant before but had a miscarriage. She is very scared because she can’t find any information on this medication to tell her if or if not this medication will hurt the baby. She has seen the OB/GYN and they told her they are not sure and she needs to speak with her Neurologists.
Avatar m tn I am unaware of any cases where it is related to Topamax withdrawal. However, it is a symptom which can and should be easily treated, to prevent dehydration. Ask your doctor about taking MiraLAX (Polyethylene Glycol 3350) or some other alternative.
Avatar f tn Your experience is almost identical to mine. My 2 y/o currently takes Topamax for partial seizures and is experiencing extreme irritability, 45 min long tantrums, speech delays, violent behavior, etc. I would just like to know how your child is doing now? Was he diagnosed with bipolar disorder? Hope all is well.
1597714 tn?1299828089 i started taking topamax for my migraines and seizures a long while ago.. my doc had actually put me on topamax and lorazipam together.. it did help my migraines.. its best to please talk to your doctor about this.. im not having as many seizures and only every now and then do i get a bad migraine..
Avatar n tn She has never lost conciousness while having an episode but I have done a lot of reading and there are different sites saying it is seizures. Could she be having seizures even though she has not lost conciousness?
Avatar f tn The EEG report suggested to consider complex partial seizures. I was placed on Topamax to which I had a bad reaction and was taken off after two weeks. I am now on Trileptal for now to see how my body tolerates that. WHatI need to know is if there are any other tests that can be run to confirm if in fact those spikes or discharges are complex partial seizures. The only physical manifestion I presented with was a tremor in my right arm.
Avatar m tn I on keppra, dalitin, and topamax to control seizures but now I have thyroid problems do you think is the seizures causing my thyroid problems or is the medicine ?

998716 tn?1249856810 COMING OFF TRAMADOL COLD TURKEY APPARENTLTY CAN INSTAGATE SEIZURES. WHAT IF YOU TAKE TOPAMAX??
Avatar f tn I have experienced the same! 6 months on topamax for migraine pain. Topamax caused seizures and thyroid problems plus numerous other smaller issues that compound to complete life altering issues. I cannot find a doctor in my network that will address this. They will only prescribe more drugs for the symptoms. They are incredibly uneducated in this next generation of doctors, only knowing how to prescribe drugs.
Avatar f tn Ok, So over the past 7-8 weeks, I have had 3 grand mal seizures, 2 at home (hospitalised after both) and one while in hospital the second time. And over 30 complex partial seizures - some day after day, some 3. A day, at random intervals. Be that sleeping, walking, sitting, talking.
471949 tn?1236904026 This has been the only med that has been able to control his seizures. He has frontal lobe epilepsy with seizures that only occured in his sleep (with a couple of rare exceptions). Thanks for your help.
2144876 tn?1341432818 It is usually recommended in those with severe epilepsy, or those who have several types of seizures and refractory seizures. In such cases the possibility of an alternative diagnosis should be ruled out. Topamax concentrations may be decreased significantly if it is used with Tegretol, decreasing it’s effectiveness. The effectiveness of Klonapin may be decreased if taken with tegretol .The mechanism may be related to induction of metabolism.
Avatar f tn I believe the drug you are talking about might be actually called Topamax or Topamirate rather than Copamax. The following is an overview of what this med is used for: This drug is used to treat epilepsy in both children and adults. In many cases it can also be used as an antidepressant. In children it is also indicated for treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a disorder that causes seizures and developmental delay).
Avatar n tn Do you think it is seizures or something else. Seizures is keeping me from getting insurance. So needless to say I am very interested in finding closure on this issue.
Avatar f tn is topamax used to treat a back injury? everything that I reads say migraines, seizures, well I don't have seizures or migraines. I have a bad knee and I have a bad back. I started Topamax and it makes me feel so bad. The pain is worse than before? is this normal? my feet hand and vision are all affectative. Numbness in feet and hands, just plain can't see. blured vision. lousy feeling .
