Are your symptoms of migraine and mood swings better after taking the medications? Carry on regular exercises to help you lose weight and plan your diet schedule accordingly. Consult your neurologist before you stop taking any medication or even change its dose. Let us know if you have any doubts.

Hi...this is not really all that new, and it is the generic of TOPAMAX...this can take 2 weeks to adjust to....so u may feel extremely tired and off balance with this.... I did lose weight, and not sure how it works, but I gained it all back and I am still on the med....so it is not a weight loss miracle. I have noticed a change in taste as well as smells...so I know that did affect what I eat.... Good luck and again be advised most do need an adjustment period to this med.

I have not experienced any weight loss. I do have weight fluctuations up and down about 8 pounds but I also have a thyroid problem and had a hysterectomy recently. I am tired of feeling asthmatic and having this annoying sinus drip. I am tired of the nagging cough and shortness of breath that I believe this drug is causing. After two weeks of being on Flovent and Albuterol without relief, I am going back to my doctor and tapering off of this drug to see if I can get better.

Has anyone tried extended release Topamax or Topiramate? It is called Trokedi XR. I am going to try it because my memory is so bad on Topamax. My neurologist said it might be better with Trokedi XR but it is very expensive. So if you can tell me before I buy it I would appreciate any feedback.

I went on Topamax for Bipolar II and anxiety. I do have to admit I knew about the weight loss effect and wanted to try it partly because of that. So many of the mood stabilizers cause weight gain. The first few times that I tried it, I did lose weight, but I also had severe gastroesophageal reflex (heartburn) even though I was on Prilosec. I ended up going off of it. Firstly, it sounds like you have chronic migraines. For this I would see a neurologist who specializes in migraine and get a electroencephalogram or EEG done to confirm it. They can put you on Topamax or another migraine medication like depakote that will prevent you from getting migraines. I would try Topamax (Topiramate is the generic name). It may also make you lose weight but they will probably give you amitriptyline as well which makes you gain weight and increases your appetite.

I would research other methods of weight loss as opposed to going into drugs, where the side effects will eventually wear off anyway. Best wishes.

Also I have been eating plain oatmeal, mixed with milk, with raisins and walnuts. I have also been eating Ceasar salads almost everyday.
