Can increasing Topamax cause a delayed side effect? A month and a half ago, I was put on increased dosage of Topamax. However, I am now and have been for the past week experiencing "pins and needles" in my feet, legs, arms and hands. Every post I read online suggested this side effect kicked in with introduction or increase of the medication, and not a month or more later. I told my neuro's medical assistant (I needed to call anyway) and he said she would let the doc know.

I recently jumped from about 25mg/50mg to 100mg a day of topamax. Since then, I have whan my doctor has says is tendonitis in both hands, wrist and middle arms. Strange I think. I have taken a strong anti-inflammatory, and then the steriod pack, heat, ice, etc, etc, rest, arms splints all that for 2 weeks. No change. Still top of hands, top of wrists looks swollen, hurts to bend wrists. Tingling (pins and needles) sensensation.

I've been taking Topamax for about 2.5 months and since then noticed some issues with my left eye. Within a month of being on Topamax my left eye seemed very dry, so I thought I was suffering from allergies (which I do have). I purchased some over the counter allergy eye drops, which caused my left eye to dilate, which scared me. Being cautious, I went to see a optician for a basic check up because I know about the possible Glaucoma complication with Topamax as well.

My husband has been suffering from chronic migranes for 2 years, he has taken all sorts of antidepression meds: celexa,zoloft,paxil, just to name a few. He was also given midrine and perscribed topamax but was so expensive we were unable to purchase it and after some of the things I've read about the eye problems I'm not sure if I want him to try it. He did have an MRI but there were no signs of tumors and such. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I suffer from chronic daily headaches and take upwards of 12 or more fioricet a day as well as topamax and effexor for prevention of migraines. Since my doctor will only prescribe up to 6 fioricet per day, I have resorted to orderly brand fioricet online as $200 for 90 tablets. My questions are how to detox at home off fioricet - should I take 12 tabs, then 11 the next day, then 10 the next day or what? Also, is it illegal to get fioricet from my doctor as well as ordering online?

it would seriously come out in clumps in the shower, we would have to vacuum every day because there would be so much hair on the carpet. I looked it up online and found many others losing their hair from Topamax. My doctor said its not a listed side effect and it was most likely from depression but I KNOW it was the Topamax. ive been off for almost 2 years now and still have hair come out but not nearly as bad as before.

I have come to the conclusion that the numbness is not related to my EBV, I believe it is a side effect to a medication that I take for migraine headaches called Topamax. It is a very unsettling side effect, but I will accept it, because, I have had almost no migraines since getting on the full dosage of Topamax and I have suffered migraines since I was 5 and I am now 42 so for me it is a wonder drug. (ps yes I have had a CAT so no tumors, I know it is a long time to suffer from headaches.

My 15 yr old son had a closed head injury and developed epilepsy. We have been thru several meds; tegretol, depakote,carbitrol, and topamax, and finally keppra. He too has nocturnal seizures arising from his frontal lobe. These meds come with terrible side effects, good luck finding the right one for your son. I know that on topamax my son had issues with memory and concentration, he couldn't even spell "if" when he was 12 ! I knew that something was wrong!

He continued to have the seizures, sometimes 4 a day, and sometimes 3 days in between them. At this point he was 17 months old, and after researching the effects of topamax online myself and no seizures for 4 weeks, I slowly and correctly weaned him off of the medication all together. He has had no seizure since then.... this was in the beginning of March 2008, he is about to be 2 now, and has been doing fine.

t relate the two until I did research online and found out that Topamax can essentially render the oral contraceptive ineffective. The other thing I notice is that at night, I start to get this weird feeling headaches, pretty much on a regular basis. I am not used to having them. I believe I had an EKG in the ER within12-16 hours of the incident. Nothing significant was reported to me.

I have suffered from migraines since my late 20's. I am now 49. I have tried any and every migrained med, some work, some don't. My doctor has just suggested topamax. Has anyone taken this? Does it work? I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches.

Does anyone else here take Topamax for the intense spasms and jerking? If so PLZ reply and let me know if it helps?...how it affects U? If u have any better med suggestions for the intense jerking? I really need all the suggestions possible b4 I go back to the doc. Appreciate ur time....

I was on 50 mg topamax at bedtime and have recently decided to stop (per dr.)I was only on it for 10 days, but had terrible side effects. Since stopping the MEDs. the side effects are crazy! I feel all of this anxiety and I cannot sleep, I have bizarre thoughts and zero appetite. This has been going on since I stopped 2 days ago. Anyone else experience this and more importantly how many days til I feel better???

I have recently been diagnosed with basilar migraine and told to try Topamax, which I have to take over a period of months. We were hoping to have children soon, and were told I couldnt get pregnant while on this drug. What happens if we want to start trying for a baby, do I come off Topamax, and the symptoms come back? Or do I stay on it and not try for a baby for a long time???

and i have bad peripheral vision .. my doctor prescribed topamax.. i am wondering how long it would take too notice the affects???

Topamax is for migraines

About 1.5 yrs now I have been on Topamax. Also around that time, my thyroid started acting up. I started losing my hair, cold hands and feet, feeling very tired, bad memory etc.. Now my symptoms have escalated. My memory is to the point where I can’t even remember simple words. I am depressed all the time and can’t get out of bed during the day. Then I can’t sleep at night. I'm having a hard time separating the side affects from the Topamax and the thyroid, which got me thinking.

Hi there Dr perscribed me Topamax for my migraines and I am a little nervous to try them. I heard you can also lose weight with this. I quit smoking 4 weeks ago and have put on quite a bit of weight, so was wondering if you can share your experiences and side effects to see if it is worth it.

I was building the topamax up and lowering the lamictal down. Now I am just on the topamax. The side affects seem quite scary to me, severe dizziness and very off balance, I am always tired and have tingling in the hands and feet. I seem loss for words and confused. Will these side affects deteriorate over the a certain amount of time? It is difficult when I have to go to work and live everyday life. Please help.

I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss? I currently take Maxalt for headaches only as needed so the Topamax was only used as an anti-seizure med. My 2 yr. old grandson has been on topamax for his epilepsy for 4 months. Before that he was on another med that caused him to be very aggressive So we asked that his med be changed. He now barely eats anything solid everyday. He does drink pediasure 16 oz. a day. His weight has remained at 25 lbs. since starting the med. Should we try to have his med changed due to his loss of appetite since starting topamax /?
