The ringing in the right ear got worse in year three. The hearing tests are now showing almost 60% hearing loss in the right ear. He gives me the transtympanic shots of corticosteriods in the right ear for vertigo, but he has sent me off to another ENT in Baltimore. They are thinking that it is not Meneries and it is more Migraine related that anything but can't figure out the hearing loss and the ringing in the the right ear. So, I have been going to a Neurologist.
I have been experiencing episodes where I get a sudden onset of a severe throbbing headache, severe nausea, mental confusion, hearing loss, stuffy nose and watery eyes, right-sided weakness, cold feet and hands, and visual disturbances. I have had many tests-brain MRI, total blood workup, medication changes. I have seen my Family Physician, ENT, and Neurologist. I had full scale Audiology tests that determined symptoms were caused by central nervous system not ears.
So i posted this comment to try and get some answers from members who may have not experienced hair loss so it will encourage her to go back on Topamax as the pain has become worse also her Fatigue.
I recommend you find a post on this site or the internet related to Topamax and Fibromyalgia and print it off and take to your Rheumatologist as there are 1000's of patient prescribed with Topamax in which to treat Fibromyalgia.
Hi I am on Topamax, but not for seizures and I have NO hair loss as a result...keep in mind we all respond and react to meds diff....u may want to talk to ur dr if the amount of hair u r losing is alarming to u.....

Loss of appetite is one of the many side effects of Topamax. So is weight loss. You may try giving the child some digestive enzymes and multivitamin preparations that help in improving the appetite. Please consult the doctor regarding drug change or other management plan if the symptom doesn’t improve. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
I was building the topamax up and lowering the lamictal down. Now I am just on the topamax. The side affects seem quite scary to me, severe dizziness and very off balance, I am always tired and have tingling in the hands and feet. I seem loss for words and confused. Will these side affects deteriorate over the a certain amount of time? It is difficult when I have to go to work and live everyday life. Please help.

I am currently on Depakote and just last week put on Topamax for a 59pd weight gain in eight months. I am miserable and looking for any encouragement I can get. I can't find anything that says I will or won't loss weight by adding this Topamax even thought my doctor said it should curve my appetite I'm willing to try anything. I don't have any midnight binges and use portion control when I eat breakfast and dinner. I don't snack but I'm not real good at exercising.
My last MRI was one month ago. It was ordered by my ENT for asymmetrical hearing loss. I guess that is unusual for the type of hearing loss I have.
I have actually known about my herniation for several years, but it was not problematic. It might not be now, but I think it should be up for consideration.
My neurologist has not seen the results of my MRI yet. I will make sure he does. Thank you for suggesting CINE Flow MRI. I will be sure to ask for it.
I take Topamax and Jut finished a round a steroids. I have noticed some increased hair loss, but I have had issues with hair loss before, so I'm not sure if it was from the round of steroids, the MS itself or what. I also have Poly Ovarian Syndrome. So I'm kind of just a big mess.
I know that weight loss is associated with both of those, especially the Topamax. I was ok with that, I've been wanting to lose about 30 lbs. anyway. But I'm on low doses of both, so I didn't expect to see much weight loss, if any, and especially not so quickly. My appointment at the psychiatrist was on October 7 and when they had me get on the scale there, it read 131 lbs.
The hair loss stops immediately after stopping topamax. It is important to take a well balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals like selenium to stimulate the regrowth of hair after quitting Topamax.
Please discuss this with your doctor as you may need to go on an alternate medication to control migraines.

Hi there Dr perscribed me Topamax for my migraines and I am a little nervous to try them. I heard you can also lose weight with this. I quit smoking 4 weeks ago and have put on quite a bit of weight, so was wondering if you can share your experiences and side effects to see if it is worth it.
I started out on 2-25mg topamax a day and was losing weight my dr put me on just 1-50mg now and am gaining weight like crazy,is there a reason for this change that I should be aware or have checked
) If you experience any weight-related side-effects, it will be weight-loss, not weight-gain!
I was taking Topamax, but it started my period up extremely heavy and painful. I do have Fibroid tumors in my uterus. Do you think it was the cause of it and if so do you know of something else I can go on to help with weight loss?
Does any one taking topamax for migraines have the problem of memory loss? Especially word loss when speaking or writing? I know this drug is nicknamed stupamax for a reason. It sure helps to know when you are not alone and others have the same side effects. Topamax helps my migraines and the weight loss is a plus too but the memory is suffering when it comes to writing and speech...like spelling...
