topamax for ocd

My doctor swithced my meds to Zoloft, Serequel, Anfranil, Klonopin, and Proprnolol for my anxiety and OCD. My OCD is finally under control but now all I do is obsess about my weight. It is really impacting my social life. I currently take 25mg of topamax in the morning and 50mg at night. I have been on it for 3 weeks and haven't seen any weight loss or side effects. Each week I will increase my dose 25mg. Does anyone have any advise for me. Does this topamax really help people loose weight.

Topamax is used for a lot of things it isn't necessarily labeled for. It's also used for treatment of nerve-related pain. Docs love to give it to patients with spine pain because it's not a narcotic. I know topamax has helped people with pain, but I wasn't one of them. I got every side effect on the fine-print enclosure, including a wooden tongue and numb, nearly paralyzed extremeties. Hadn't even titrated up to a "therapeutic" dose yet.

First of all sorry for my language but i do not speak English very well I have been taking Topamax for 10 years for the chronic headaches . The result has been excellent. For the past two years I can say that the pain is completely gone.

Hello.....I am a 42 y/o female who has had a tremor in both hands for several years. My tremors are not noticeable unless I have my wrists resting on a counter top or something similar. Then my hand(s) go to shaking. They do not shake while I am doing tedious tasks or are still at my side or in my lap. Just when my wrists are resting. And it happens just about every time! It could be those that had a hair loss issue also had a thyroid issue and assumed it was the topamax......????

I am currently taking 10mg lexapro for anxiety, slight ocd, and slight intrusive thoughts. I have heard that taking SSRI's will cause some weight gain in many people. I know that SSRI's are most commonly prescribed as well; I guess because they work best? However, are there any other classes of drugs that i can talk to my doctor about that are very similar that are "healthier" with less side effects (specifically weight gain and sexual)?

I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.

I had periorbital migraines and was placed on Topamax, technically an anti-seizure but also great for migraine/headache control and mood stabilization in bipolar disorder. That for a while was the only thing that worked for me. It can have a sedative and appetite suppressant effect. I was also shortly on a low dose of Elavil for migraines. Carefull with that one, take only the amount prescribed.

Topamax does tend to cause weight loss, but trust me, this is not the way you want to lose weight. Topamax (I was taking it for bipolar) first of all did nothing for my moods. I was back in the hospital a few months after first being prescribed this, along with seroquel and ativan for panic and anxiety. That's not what makes this medicine so undesirable though. With each dose increase, I had numbness in my legs and arms. This could continue for as long as 2 weeks after a dose increase.

An NSAID is good for inflammation, Anti-Seizure (like Lyrica, Neurontin or Topamax) medications are good for nerve pain. If Lyrica made your fiance too drowsy, Topamax might be a better alternative. This is what I take instead. It's in the same class, but has different side effects. Many people do not get as drowsy. Muscle relaxers can help too. Everyone's cocktail is different, because everyone's reacts differently to medications.

is anyone else on these two? I was recently diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder and the doctor put me on lexapro and topamax. I have now heard horror stories about topamax and I don't want to take it. I want to know some alternatives.

I have been on topamax for migraines for eleven months now and have lost a ton of weight...at first i had same side effects and it was very scary, but they do lessen in time and i find not having as many migraines well worth the first 6 weeks of strange speech, confusion, side pain etc. i make myself drink enough water each day...and with the help of excercise i have lost around 27kgs...definitly dampens my appetite!!.

I also have often had a nagging headache post-surgery (nothing like before, but I'd still rather not have it) and am currently trying Diamox Sequels to reduce my high ICP. I'm on a half-dose now and it seems to help with the headache without causing the unpleasant side effects that the full dose caused. I assume that you've had a repeat MRI to make sure that you don't have a leak, pseudomeningocele, etc.?

I was hospitalized and my psychiatrist is now figuring out which drug I should take next. I have OCD and depression and have been in therapy since I was 7. I used to take Topamax for nerver pain, it was the only anti-seizure med that really worked well for the pain, and I had three attacks of kidney stones before I found out it was the Topamax causing them. I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.

I was just prescribed the drug for frequent migrains and was wondering why and how it causes weight loss? Does it decrease your ap?

As you have stated,there is no cure for OCD,if there was there would be alot of happy people who would be able to live happy--normal lives.There are good medications--CBT--Exposure therapy & the OCD workbook.The combination of all these treatments can make OCD easier to deal with.

First off I think that increasing the Topamax to 100mg if possible would be a good place to start since you have said that the Topamax has greatly reduced the number of severe headaches you get. The normal dose of Topamax for migraine prevention is 100mg, so taking it at the regular dose might greatly improve your situation.

org for more information or just google topamax. My Way Out is mostly for drinkers because topa has shown to be very helpful in that area. The worst side effect for me on topa was feeling extremely irritable. I didn't want to be a mean mom, so I had to go off it. The only other solution for me would be to combine topa with wellbutrin or prozac or something else to curb the anger side effect.
