topamax

Avatar f tn thank you for the feeback. i apprecaite it. i actually tried topamax but dr used it for bi polar symptoms..he said it was an off label usage of it as a mood stabilzer. the topamax gave me really bad restless feelings i felt nauseas and it gave me these buzzing sensations in my head.
Avatar f tn I started on the Vyvanse mostly b/c I also suffer from ADHD and it is really great so far for my attention at work. However I am really leery of taking new meds especially if I do not need them and even so I would like to see how I react to one before taking others on top of it. Anyway b/c I have ADHD those types of medicines don't interrupt my sleep like they would most people so I have no trouble with getting to sleep.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult a few years ago, and started taking concerta to help me focus in college. I stopped taking it for a while, and about a month ago, went back on the concerta. I take 36mg of extended release in the mornings when I have class or homework to do, and it does help me focus. However, since going back on it, I've noticed that I sometimes can't grasp words. Like I know what I'm talking about/trying to say, but I can't place a word with it.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure that you need all of this medication. I take Vyvanse, which is frequently prescribed for both ADD/ADHD and binge eating disorder. I don't take it for weight loss, but I know that it is often used for that purpose. I agree that the two medications you are on seem like an odd combo. I took Adderall in the past but felt very jittery and anxious. Vyvanse does not give me that feeling.
Avatar n tn My son has ODD without ADHD, he has been taking a very small dossage of Topamax for over a year ( has help him loose and control his oerweight problems, but has not really help with his oposition or horrible mood swings) and now the Dr. recomendned Strattera, I´m very concern with the side efects. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for all the help.
Avatar f tn I'm 32 years old and have struggled with both Adhd and weight problems. I went to see my doctor and he put me on phentermine 37.5mg once a day and topamax 23 mg in half doeses twice dailey. I also take adderall 20mg twice Dailey. I asked him if theses two meds who interact with one another and his response was no . I guess my question is how do I safely spread them out during the day. It seems I can't get it right because when I take either or I get very anxious .
1218509 tn?1267490923 I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 9 years old. Currently I am on Adderall, because Vyvanse was too expensive when I didn't have insurance. I took 60 mg of Vyvanse for three to four months, back in mid-2009; it was absolutely amazing. It was very smooth, it lasted around the 12-14 hours my Psychiatrist said it would, and I did not give me any side effects. I would highly recommend Vyvanse to anyone who needs a ADHD/ADD medication.
Avatar f tn It could be those that had a hair loss issue also had a thyroid issue and assumed it was the topamax......????
Avatar m tn I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed Concerta 27.5 mgCR which is like adderall for ADHD. My doctor also prescribed Phenteramine 37.5 mg for weight loss. I take both together in the morning. I do go to him every month and have a check up so he can check my blood pressure...it is always low anyways. But he does keep a close eye on me. Also, if I have something stressfull happen in my life, I drop the phenterimine for a couple of days to prevent an anxidy attack.
Avatar f tn I had periorbital migraines and was placed on Topamax, technically an anti-seizure but also great for migraine/headache control and mood stabilization in bipolar disorder. That for a while was the only thing that worked for me. It can have a sedative and appetite suppressant effect. I was also shortly on a low dose of Elavil for migraines. Carefull with that one, take only the amount prescribed.
1888842 tn?1320993159 m now a full time student, and with the topamax, its become next to impossible for me to retain any information in my studies, much less get up the strength to finish any homework assignments. My abbility to focus is lack thereof.. I'm just wondering what else is out there that I haven't tried???? I'm at the point now, where i'll try just about anything! I'm also taking fiorcet for when I do have a migraine attack, but its definitely not a permanent fix.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to find the right combination of meds/doses for Major Depression and Anxiety for a VERY long time, and I think that over the last few weeks I finally have gotten there. My medical doctor is optioning me to go off my Birth Control for other concerns, which is unrelated to my depression/anxiety. I have also been leaning to going off it too, since I haven't really needed it.
1655289 tn?1326042889 Topamax does tend to cause weight loss, but trust me, this is not the way you want to lose weight. Topamax (I was taking it for bipolar) first of all did nothing for my moods. I was back in the hospital a few months after first being prescribed this, along with seroquel and ativan for panic and anxiety. That's not what makes this medicine so undesirable though. With each dose increase, I had numbness in my legs and arms. This could continue for as long as 2 weeks after a dose increase.
Avatar n tn I am no specialist on Topamax but I do know the use it for many things including migraines. The more serious danger maybe not taking it if you have Epilepsy. In August I was on Topamax for migrianes and went off of it because I didn't think it helped that much. Then I had what we believe was a seizure and now I have been diagnosed also with Epilepsy. My EEG was normal also but that is not uncommon, it is hard to catch a seizure on the EEG especially if you do not sleep during the EEG.
Avatar m tn An NSAID is good for inflammation, Anti-Seizure (like Lyrica, Neurontin or Topamax) medications are good for nerve pain. If Lyrica made your fiance too drowsy, Topamax might be a better alternative. This is what I take instead. It's in the same class, but has different side effects. Many people do not get as drowsy. Muscle relaxers can help too. Everyone's cocktail is different, because everyone's reacts differently to medications.
Avatar f tn The best known drugs so far for partial seizures are Carbamazepine (Tegretol) and Valproic acid / Sodium Valproate. Topamax is a good anti-convulsant, but it may not be suitable for him. The added benefit of Carbamazepine and Valproic acid is that they help control the aggressive behaviors. This has been a consistent experience in my clinical practice. The problems are many. But the child suffers the most. He just needs someone to understand him.
Avatar f tn Yes, the little one could have ADHD. It certainly is an inherited disorder for many - but not all kids. But, i have had kids in the classroom who have ADHD and their brother or sister did not. So it certainly is not guaranteed. By the way, I have seen the changes in how ADHD is treated over the years. Having spent almost 40 years in the classroom. It is being treated much better now then it was.
Avatar n tn m going to say that my own doctor told me Lexapro is a horrible medication to use on someone who has ADHD since I was on it for my depression and anxiety originally before I switched doctors and was diagnosed with ADHD. He said it is very ineffective in treatment for anxiety and can worsen ADHD symptoms, so there's that tidbit of info.
Avatar f tn is anyone else on these two? I was recently diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder and the doctor put me on lexapro and topamax. I have now heard horror stories about topamax and I don't want to take it. I want to know some alternatives.
614508 tn?1265281722 Has anyone had any interactions/reactions with the drug Topamax when prescribed for BPII & OCD. My understanding from the drug handout is that it is normally prescribed for migraines, seizures and weight loss. My doc has just increased my dosage to 100mg 3x per day. I have experienced some deterioration in my eyesight however I'm not sure if that's attributed to age (hadn't had my eyes examined in 2 years) or the Topamax which I've been on a lower doze for 6 weeks.
1655449 tn?1302089876 I have been on topamax for migraines for eleven months now and have lost a ton of weight...at first i had same side effects and it was very scary, but they do lessen in time and i find not having as many migraines well worth the first 6 weeks of strange speech, confusion, side pain etc. i make myself drink enough water each day...and with the help of excercise i have lost around 27kgs...definitly dampens my appetite!!.
2932946 tn?1344722012 I also have often had a nagging headache post-surgery (nothing like before, but I'd still rather not have it) and am currently trying Diamox Sequels to reduce my high ICP. I'm on a half-dose now and it seems to help with the headache without causing the unpleasant side effects that the full dose caused. I assume that you've had a repeat MRI to make sure that you don't have a leak, pseudomeningocele, etc.?
Avatar n tn I received a closed head injury many years ago, resulting in one sided weakness ,short-term memory issues, PTSD, severe migraine...enough already...anyway, I have been on several drugs for instance Topamax, Inderal, Lyrica, Xanax at length .Presently, due to some unresolved short-term memory issues I am having some difficulty memorizing, concentrating, and focusing on a required project at my job. Obviously frustrated, we/my doctor has decided to try Ritalin. Have you seen this work before?
Avatar f tn I used to take Topamax for nerver pain, it was the only anti-seizure med that really worked well for the pain, and I had three attacks of kidney stones before I found out it was the Topamax causing them. I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.
