Avatar_f_tn I could easily get a prescription for Topamax as I have migraines and my doc and I talked about it at our last visit. I would also LOVE the weight loss side effect. Anyone that has or is taking Topamax - does it make you feel nervous? Does it make your heart beat faster and/or palpitations? I have anxiety so I can't use it if it will make me more nervous. Anybody have bad side effects from Topamax?
9575543_tn?1404634440 Hi everyone my name is Jenna, and i have been taking topamax again for a few years now and have been experiencing some really bad side effects from it. I took it a while back but i didnt get many side effects back then or maybe i just dont remember, oh yeah thats one of the side effects. Anyways it seems to happen gradually and then after the year is over the side effects just come full force like im a different person, and stress seems to make it ALOT worse.
Avatar_n_tn What is the ingredient in topamax that allows for weight loss? I have used topamax for migraines but don't want to continue it. However, I was taking celebrex for arthritis and experienced a weight gain which I cannot shed. Is the ingredient in topamax which causes weight loss known? How can I get the same effect without taking the drug again?
Avatar_n_tn I have digenerative disc disease and my neirologist just prescribed topamax, he said it would help with the pain and tingling but could result in weight loss. I am wondering if prescribing topamax for ddd is common among neurologists? I can't seem to find any other information related to topamax as a pain med, only information I have is that it's a powerful drug with lots of side effects, most not so good. The weight loss aspect is the only plus...
Avatar_n_tn My question today after that bit of background is what information is available on Topamax. I was prescribed this recently. I could not find any on this sight. I have tried all the others (depakote, phenobarb, tegretol, etc. without good result. thank you in advance for any information you may provide.
Avatar_f_tn I just started Topamax. I'm on 25mg/day and will increase by 25mg/week until I reach 100mg. I heard the weightloss effect depends on the dose. So, what dose did everyone here have their success? And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along? I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking). PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Avatar_f_tn my medication(topamax) is causing severe constipation, my doctor says to add fiber, i have, and still i have pain in my stomache, small and hard bowel movements every 2-3 days, and i sometimes have to take a laxative. this makes me nervous i may be harming my digestive body. is there anything i can take over the counter daily or a colon cleanse?
Avatar_n_tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Topamax withdrawal can cause headaches, anxiety and constipation. It is quite possible that your headaches are due to topamax withdrawal. Please discuss this issue with your treating doctor as you may need medications to control the headaches. Take care!
Avatar_m_tn Topamax 25 mg provided no relief and left me in a state of non productivity 90 days. 7/29 Difficulty with Memory & Difficulty with Concentration/Attention Lyrica 50 mg provided no relief and left me in a state of non productivity 90 days. 8/15 trouble concentrating, dry mouth Hydrocodone provided pain relief and left me in a state of non productivity, Constipation,Dizziness , did not effect numbness in left buttock.
Avatar_f_tn I started taking Aciphex but within 2-3 months, I became constipated. I reported this to my doctor, who told me that diarrhea, not constipation was a side effect of proton pump inhibitors. As I always have problems with constipation and have to watch my diet/fiber intake, etc, I insisted on switching my medication. He allowed me to try pantoprazole. The constipation resolved, but after 2-3 months on pantoprazole, has returned.

Avatar_m_tn These symptoms have been going on for over 2 years and taking Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Topamax have not worked. I do not respond well to medications at all. Now, the muscle fatigue in my thighs have gotten worse. My other symptoms are constipation despite on fiber therapy, eye strain, and am easily dizzy. Is this CFS?
Avatar_m_tn For migraines, ask you Doctor if he/she would consider changing to Topamax. It's in the same family as Neurontin but my wife's Neurologist thinks it is a superior drug. My wife takes 100mg of Topamax daily for her migraines. It seems to reduce the total frequency as we have noticed in her migraine diary over the last 10 years.
Avatar_f_tn I have been having major gas and bloating and abdominal pain for about the past 6-8 months. I have a history of fibromylasia and have been diagnosed with IBS with constipation in the past. This is totally different and my BM have actually been pretty regular. This comes with after eating. I bloat out with just about any food and have cut out different things and can not pin point any certain thing. I look like I am about 6 months pregnant and am in much distress. I am very irritable.
Avatar_f_tn I'm a 33 year old female who has been under the advisement of a neurologist for 2 years. I have been prescribed Topamax for “seizures” brought on by “migraines” … and I am beginning to feel VERY unsure of this diagnosis. He claims that there is some unusual activity on the left side of my brain, but no lesions. My symptoms are becoming more severe and frequent and I am starting to lose control of my emotions. I feel as though my doctor is looking at my husband for answers rather than myself.
Avatar_f_tn Has any of your symtoms started after to Topamax? and if so have the doctors run a Topamax level. Another issue is sometime there are problems with the name brand and the generic. A good place to start is with your pharmacist He can get you a full list of side effects and th other stuff that is in the pill. A good site to use to look up any medicine is or EMC medicine guide. Good luck to you. i will add you to my prayer list.
Avatar_f_tn He was also given midrine and perscribed topamax but was so expensive we were unable to purchase it and after some of the things I've read about the eye problems I'm not sure if I want him to try it. He did have an MRI but there were no signs of tumors and such. Does anyone have any suggestions? He does take Hydrocodone for the pain but it barely takes the edge off.
587787_tn?1218808059 How much magnesium would I need to take? I would much rather try something more natural than Topamax, it seems the Topamax is or can be quite toxic. Thanks Again.
Avatar_f_tn I have for several weeks had fatigue, and now have lost weight but my appetite has not been so good, and I stay cold. I take topamax and also Synthroid, plus I work almost 10 hr days 4 days a between long hours, stress at work that could be problem. My hair has gotten thinner, seems a lot near the front hairline, skin dry but no itching.
Avatar_m_tn Well, the symptoms could be due to Lyrica, as this is the only new medication your husband has started. Muscle spasms, constipation and gas have been reported with this drug. You could ask the doctors for an alternative medicine for migraine and see if the symptoms stop. Certain antiseizure medicines like Depakote and Topamax seem to prevent migraine too. Also certain anti depressants like amitriptyline, nortriptyline etc are known to prevent migraines.
Avatar_m_tn What is the likelyhood that this could be a heart problem? I have had some constipation lately too. Is this a circulation issue? Medication problem? Any ideas? I am awaiting some tests for Lyme disease as well, but nothing back yet. Even typing this out my hands feel fatigued and cold. What could this be?
Avatar_n_tn She was hospitlized last week for 4 full days and has now been off the drug for over a week and a half. They have her on Suboxone, Flexeril (for her fibromylagia) , Cymbalta, Topamax & Lunesta (for sleeping). My question is she seems to be more doped up now than when she was on the Hydro. Also she has trouble urinating and her stomach has become very blooated and uncomfortable. She has put on 15 -20 lbs while barely eating.
Avatar_f_tn no need to live in such stress, please start to take Topamax and try never do an effort or ''constipation push'', I highly suspect a ruptured aneurysm necessitating peace and some studies like CT-angio, because we may find it! In case of doing nothing this event can appear again whenever u sneez or cough or hold your breath during sneezing!!! So try to never hold a breath because that will elevate the pressure in your head.
Avatar_f_tn I have a history of migraines but they've been well under control for years as I take a preventative migraine medicine (topamax-100mg). I started taking birth controls when I was about 13 due to a hormonal imbalance, and for the last 6 years or so I've been on a continuous cycle where I don't have a period. About a month ago, I got a migraine that hasn't gone away since.
1968463_tn?1374761413 I have to agree with zygy in that most of us do have a thyroid issue, but many r being told our thyroid is testing "normal" bcuz they r not testing us for auto immune thyroid issues. Hashimoto's is a problem I had and gained way too much in a short time...and I was still quite active at the time....finally it was found I had Hashimoto's and was put on meds...I stopped gaining weight..leveled off...had surgery....
560753_tn?1216055652 I was ok for a month or so and then I developed constipation. So I was switching from diarrea to constipation on and off. The burping continue and it seems to happend before I get my period. Is 5:41 am and I got up because of gas in my stomach and diarrea. I haven't being able to have a deasent night of sleep for the past 4 days. That happens every month. And I just don't know what to do. Can Anyone help me please???
324184_tn?1308079803 My new Dr said this symptom was not related to the verapamil. Regardless, i stopped the drug and in about 10 days the neck pain started to subside. I am now trying topamax. FYI IMATREX is now generic! picked some up yesterday.
