Hi I just wanted to tell my story, I went back to the doctor today and they have to wean me off the topamax I was on it for Migraines. I am also on wellbutrin for depression and have been for years. They put me on the topamax about 3 weeks ago I have notice some weight lost however I went "crazy" lol.
I have been prescribed wellbutrin for depression and topamax as a mood stabilizer. The combination worked very well for me and the bonus was that I lost weight. However, I also lost hair. I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same problem.
I was starting to wonder if it better just to smoke weed instead of taking all these AD drugs, I mean I am a walking medicine cabinet and nothing really seems to be doing much anyway except hitting my wallet, I am on wellbutrin/topamax/zoloft/lunesta/klonopin and I still feel horribly depressed, i have tried so many different combinations, it does not seem to make a difference.
I switched from Lexapro to wellbutrin because of weight gain and high blood pressure and have had wonderful results. Blood pressure is normal again and I have lost weight. Hopefully this medication will work for you too..
There is one called Follicle Booster which is expensive, but helps a lot. and drink tons of water. topamax is dehydrating and water will help the tingling sensations you get, along with the brain fog that comes with it. A couple of gallons of water a day will help. That's a lot, but you'll notice the difference. Plus you need to replenish your electrolytes with an occasional sports drink. Again, speaking from experience here. Good luck!
I have been taking both wellbutrin SR, 450mg/daily, and topamax, 200mg/bid for a year and 9 months now, and the combination is great! The topamax is an anti-seizure drug, works for migraines (which I only had as a teenager) causes weight loss and is a mood stabilizer. It also intensifies the effects of many other meds. I have lost over 140 lbs, and just recently began to lose a little more. I started out at 300 lbs, and this mornings weighed 166.8.
I have heard that you can take 5-HTP and wellbutrin together. Apparently it's safe due to the fact that 5-HTP works on serotonin and wellbutrin is a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor so serotonin syndrome is highly unlikely. Has anyone tried this combo? Did if work for you, what was your experience like? I have asked a Pharmacist if you can take them together already, that's where I got my info so please don't tell me to "ask my pharmacist".
I have been on a cocktail of topamax (from 50 to now 100 mg) a day, wellbutrin XL (450 mg) a day and now Busbar 15 mg a day for about a year. The topamax has been to keep my weight down with the Anti-depressants, which has been difficult in the past. That has been quite successful, I'm the thinnest I've been in a long while. But I'm noticing that my thick curly blond hair has now become straw and thin. Does this has to do with the topamax? Should I stop? Please advice.
For the last 2 weeks I have felt very dizzy, missed 3 days of work, went to the doctor, who said I have vertigo. Gave me an antihystamine. She said it's viral. I still feel the same. I have begun to wonder if the vertigo could be caused by withdrawal from Lexapro, which I've been on for years. I also experience mental "mud"--feeling confused and slow to get my thoughts together, as well as trouble remembering. What do you think?
Since the age of 19, I have been diagnossed w/ Borderline Personality Disorder, Minor Depression, Major Depression w/ PTSD, & now, a couple of years ago, at the age of 33, Bipolar; all of this while being in and out of therapy, hospitals, off and on different types of meds, up until a few years ago when I thought I'd do the right thing and just stay on the meds & stick to therapy every other week. Now I feel like I have signed my own death warrant.
i can advise you to speak to your doctor about your problems, ive been through the same thing and its part of dysphoric mania, where your mind is depressed but you have all this energy that changes into rage and anger. you could take lamatical and lithium together but they do have their side effects which can ruin your treatment plan. best to speak to your doctor.
I've been on around 50 diff psycho drugs since the 90's. the only one my wife and kids said made me better was wellbutrin. I lost 30lbs, bought a couple more cheap rentals and remodeled them, but eventually it quit working and the weight and laziness/depression returned. Been off all psycho meds since 2009, opiates helped a bit when i quit AD's and skitzo meds.
I am VERY worried though that I am about 3 weeks past conception having taking pain killers, and even the topamax. I have 2 children already and would never even let someone smoke around me during my previous pregnancies. Any suggestions?
I'm an active, well educated, hard working 30 year old female. I work 50+ hours a week and I workout at the gym a few times a week. My husband and I have a great life together. I have taken a very limited amount of medication over my 12 years of struggling in pain. This is probably not what you pictured when you heard that I have Fibromyalgia. We are stereo typed into a group of whining women (and some men), who are pill seekers, who need to toughen up and deal with life.
To sandratarium, keeponkeepingon, and kittykat3658 I was on Effexor (25mg/day) for 18 months, then successfully weaned myself off of it without pain, and after an 8-month slide back into depression while trying every natural remedy I had researched (none of which worked, contrary to all the glowing studies I had read about), I went back on it and have been using it without incident for the past 16 months.
I've been taking 500mg metformin myself and I have not experienced any weight loss. I am actually taking it for diabetes treatment. But it has not helped with my weight loss.
Today my nerves are seriously f***king with me. I have tried benadryl and not much luck. I have no access to benzo's and don't really want any more junk in my system. Pot, being the exception for now, since I believe It has kept me sane. I started it all by trying my first Oxy 20 in Mexico, while on vacation (easy to get down there). That was it for me, I was in love with a new woman named "Opiate". Then after that I had my wisdom teeth pulled.
First of all, awesome losing 50 lbs and sticking to the diet etc afterwards! I'm on Lamotrogine for BP and topamax for migraines. I've been on topamax for about 5 months. At first I immediately lost 10 lbs, and felt very sluggish. It works well for my tension headaches, and the type of migraine I get, and any side effect I had has gone away. I take mine at night as my neurologist prescribed to help reduce side effects. I don't know if that really works, I just listen to what my doctors say!
Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks, and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.
My doctor has prescribed topamax 50 mg in the AM and 100 mg in the PM plus wellbutrin XL 150 mg one a day I take this mid morning. I am afraid of gaining more weight. Has anyone out there taken this combo of meds?
I feel more tense too and am getting some brain zaps. I also take wellbutrin,Voltaren, Flexeril and topamax which may be helping some. That is interesting about topamax and Fibro...I've never heard that before. I take it for migraines and I have not lost alot of weight but I don't eat alot to begin with, but I am over weight. My daughter lost a lot of weight on it she had to get off of actually blocked her sweat glands.
heya, Glad I came across this community, enjoyed reading some of the posts, helpful info for sure. Currently I am taking wellbutrin XL, topamax, Lamictal, and Xanax (for sleep) and have been feeling desperate on what to try next for my Bipolar. I started on meds over 10 years ago when I was "diagnosed" (although not told with that terminology", then put eventually on Seraquel, Zoloft, Prozac, Buspar, celexa......
d/c my topamax when she added the zoloft and Xanax and said that she couldn't give me both Zoloft and topamax. During my research i found this is not true..Anyone with experience have any advise i would appreciate it..I have an appointment in a couple weeks...
I have had several friends ask if I have been checked for cancer. I know the topamax makes you lose weight, and my dr is aware of that. I need help with the neck and head pain. I cant stand this. It is really taking a toll on my life.
I was on wellbutrin 150mg twice a day and 20mg Lexapro twice a day, I moved 9 weeks ago and during the trip I lost control of the truck I was driving. I lost everything including my medication. By the time I reached my destination I had already gone without my meds for a week. I didn't want my meds anymore. I don't knoe if insanity set in or sanity did. It's been 9 weeks now since having these meds and I seem to have turned a corner but these "waves" people talk about continue.
