Many women will try to take meds made for sick people, everything from Topamax to Aderol, Concerta, Wellbutrin, etc., pretending they have what to many are very serious issues, for very shallow reasons. This can and probably will backfire on your health in the end. After nearly two years, my dose is at 200mg. With all of the other medications I'm taking, it is hard to tell whether the jerk/tick in my nerves is actually from the Topmax, or from its interaction with the other drugs I take.
Hi There ~ Anyone use Topamax as a mood stabilizer? How did you like it? How long did it take to work? What side affects did you notice? Did they go away/diminish? I have just been prescribed it as a mood stabilizer, I take it at night only (to decrease side effects and due to fatigue) and have titrated up to 50mg and will be upping to 75mg this week (25mg a week - going slow because I am pretty neurotic about meds) and will prob stop at 100 or 150mg as per Pdoc.
I have been prescribed Wellbutrin for depression and Topamax as a mood stabilizer. The combination worked very well for me and the bonus was that I lost weight. However, I also lost hair. I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same problem.
I have heard that you can take 5-HTP and Wellbutrin together. Apparently it's safe due to the fact that 5-HTP works on serotonin and Wellbutrin is a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor so serotonin syndrome is highly unlikely. Has anyone tried this combo? Did if work for you, what was your experience like? I have asked a Pharmacist if you can take them together already, that's where I got my info so please don't tell me to "ask my pharmacist".
I was starting to wonder if it better just to smoke weed instead of taking all these AD drugs, I mean I am a walking medicine cabinet and nothing really seems to be doing much anyway except hitting my wallet, I am on wellbutrin/topamax/zoloft/lunesta/klonopin and I still feel horribly depressed, i have tried so many different combinations, it does not seem to make a difference.
I just started Topamax. I'm on 25mg/day and will increase by 25mg/week until I reach 100mg. I heard the weightloss effect depends on the dose. So, what dose did everyone here have their success? And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along? I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking). PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
I've been given wellbutrin because since I've been on Zoloft,(about 6 months), I've gained 8 pounds. Wellbutrin is supposed to help with the weight problem but, the possible side effect of seizures terrifies me. Does anyone have any info regarding these things???
I have been taking both Wellbutrin SR, 450mg/daily, and Topamax, 200mg/bid for a year and 9 months now, and the combination is great! The Topamax is an anti-seizure drug, works for migraines (which I only had as a teenager) causes weight loss and is a mood stabilizer. It also intensifies the effects of many other meds. I have lost over 140 lbs, and just recently began to lose a little more. I started out at 300 lbs, and this mornings weighed 166.8.
I have been on a cocktail of Topamax (from 50 to now 100 mg) a day, Wellbutrin XL (450 mg) a day and now Busbar 15 mg a day for about a year. The Topamax has been to keep my weight down with the Anti-depressants, which has been difficult in the past. That has been quite successful, I'm the thinnest I've been in a long while. But I'm noticing that my thick curly blond hair has now become straw and thin. Does this has to do with the Topamax? Should I stop? Please advice.
My doctor has prescribed Topamax 50 mg in the AM and 100 mg in the PM plus Wellbutrin XL 150 mg one a day I take this mid morning. I am afraid of gaining more weight. Has anyone out there taken this combo of meds?
I thought that the two were similar drugs, so I am curious as to why she would prescribe both together. Also, for a long time, I have had problems sleeping. I have recently discovered that this is one of the common side effects of Buspar. Lack of sleep is also a contributing factor to anxiety. Is it possible I'm doing myself more harm than good by using the Buspar? Should I get it off it and try a different drug that doesn't have this potential side effect?
Taking amphetamine (i.e. Adderall, Dexedrine, Vyvanse), bupropion (WellButrin), dexfenfluramine, fenfluramine, furazolidone, guanadrel, guanethidine, or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (e.g., phenelzine) in the last 14 days" This quote is from - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phentermine You probably should read the link. I kind of get the feeling that the two meds should not be combined. Hope this helps.
Hi, The dose of magnesium is 400-500 mg/day; some people start with 60-70% of the recommended dose first. Magnesium salts can cause constipation so please make sure you take a diet rich in fibers. Please check the link below it has some useful information. http://www.thedailyheadache.com/2007/04/magnesium_migra.html Take care!
I haven't heard anything about Wellbutrin for Opioid Addiction or Opiate craving. I have seen Depakote and Wellbutrin prescribed together for patients, particularly for the Bipolar spectrum disorders. The Depakote probably makes it less likely that someone would suffer a seizure when taking the Wellbutrin at the same time. I'm not sure if or how the Depakote would affect the blood levels of the Wellbutrin.
I'm 29 and bipolar, I was diagnosed at 19. I'm currently on a # of meds, lamictal, topamax, celexa, wellbutrin and Ativan. Lately I feel like I've been causing fights over the smallest things with my bf and then I get extremely emotional and cry. For instance I was hurt that he made plans with his family on Tuesday night bc I assumed he would want to hang out with me after work and not seeing each other for 4 days. Although we had plans Wednesday, nothing was actually planned for Tuesday night.
Luvox Zoloft Cymbalta Effexor Wellbutrin Anafranil Prozac Seroquel Ritalin Orap Lithium Topamax Risperal I can't understand why none of them have any effect on me. Do you have any suggestions? Help!
For the last 2 weeks I have felt very dizzy, missed 3 days of work, went to the doctor, who said I have vertigo. Gave me an antihystamine. She said it's viral. I still feel the same. I have begun to wonder if the vertigo could be caused by withdrawal from Lexapro, which I've been on for years. I also experience mental "mud"--feeling confused and slow to get my thoughts together, as well as trouble remembering. What do you think?
I am surprised at all the new found energy i now have. For any one new here, i am currently on 100mgs of topamax, and 300mgs of wellbutrin. I am 5'1'' and have been on welbutrin for a year this month. just started topamax. March 7 is a moth marker for me. I was 199lbs, and am now at 188lbs. I am experiencing tingling in my heels mostly now, and most foods now have lost their normal taste for me. I have no appite. I do not eat a whole lot.
I do have problems with stringing a sentence together at times but under this med....it will make it worst. Is that just initial start of adjusting to the medication and goes away as it gets into your system? I have tried anti-depressants and various other meds to control my bipolar. The initial start is always filled with emotional baggage and side effects. Patience is the key and waiting six weeks for the final results to see if you feel better or not. That should be the guide.
heya, Glad I came across this community, enjoyed reading some of the posts, helpful info for sure. Currently I am taking Wellbutrin XL, topamax, Lamictal, and Xanax (for sleep) and have been feeling desperate on what to try next for my Bipolar. I started on meds over 10 years ago when I was "diagnosed" (although not told with that terminology", then put eventually on Seraquel, Zoloft, Prozac, Buspar, Celexa......
In the past year my psychiatrist of 2 years moved and retired so I've been seeing a normal physician for my medication. He took me down to 100mg a day on my Topamax which seems to work well for my headaches but I notice still a couple times a month I become depressed. To my boyfriend, I tell him I'm "in a funk" when this happens and it has started to effect our relationship.

I am on several medications, and I am wondering if one of those could be causing a problem. I take 300 MG of Wellbutrin XL, Loestrin 1.5/30 and 150 MG of Topamax. I started the Topamax last, about a year ago so I am wondering if it could have anything to do with that. I did lose 30 pounds when I started taking Wellbutrin in 2005, and then another 15 pounds when I started Topamax last year without trying.
Since the age of 19, I have been diagnossed w/ Borderline Personality Disorder, Minor Depression, Major Depression w/ PTSD, & now, a couple of years ago, at the age of 33, Bipolar; all of this while being in and out of therapy, hospitals, off and on different types of meds, up until a few years ago when I thought I'd do the right thing and just stay on the meds & stick to therapy every other week. Now I feel like I have signed my own death warrant.
Celexa - made me real dizzy, so my doc took me off. I have also tried Wellbutrin, which made me develop racing white spots in my eyes and loss of coordination. I was on that for about a week. I have been on Effexor for the last 4 years or so and have had horrible side effects ever since the first day I started taking them. I have tried Topamax. Now I am on Neurontin 100 mg (mood stabilizer), Celexa 20 mg (bipolar) and Effexor 37.5 mg to ween myself off of it.
I feel more tense too and am getting some brain zaps. I also take Wellbutrin,Voltaren, Flexeril and Topamax which may be helping some. That is interesting about Topamax and Fibro...I've never heard that before. I take it for migraines and I have not lost alot of weight but I don't eat alot to begin with, but I am over weight. My daughter lost a lot of weight on it she had to get off of it...it actually blocked her sweat glands.
First, all of a sudden my lexapro stopped working, and I was on topamax and went through the most dangerous and destructive depression ever. In June I went on Wellbutrin and Lamictal. My grandmother who I was best friends with died rather suddenly. I am so emotionally exhausted and my life feels like it's falling apart. I could go on and on. I do have female pattern baldness, but all of a sudden, since July, my hair has been falling out in huge clumps.
My husband and I have a great life together. I have taken a very limited amount of medication over my 12 years of struggling in pain. This is probably not what you pictured when you heard that I have Fibromyalgia. We are stereo typed into a group of whining women (and some men), who are pill seekers, who need to toughen up and deal with life. A few days ago there was an article on CNN.com about Fibro.
