topamax with wellbutrin

Hi, my psychiatrist just put me on Wellbutrin, and Topamax as a mood stabilizer. I know that weight loss is associated with both of those, especially the Topamax. I was ok with that, I've been wanting to lose about 30 lbs. anyway. But I'm on low doses of both, so I didn't expect to see much weight loss, if any, and especially not so quickly. My appointment at the psychiatrist was on October 7 and when they had me get on the scale there, it read 131 lbs.

So Wellbutrin used to make me sweat like a ***** in church; after I was prescribed Topamax, it stopped. Topamax inhibits sweating but I was on a 200 mg dose for migraines-I started at 25 mg but the more my dose increased the less I noticed the horrible sweats from the Wellbutrin. It is a stimulant so it will have that effect.

I talked to my doc, and he suggested a weaning schedule of 50 mg per day for 2 weeks and then 50 mg every other day for 2 weeks before stopping the Zoloft. I am really hoping the Topamax by itself will help with my moods. I know it helps with the migraines, which, in itself, is a wonderful mood booster! Now that my life is not so crazy, I'm really hoping I don't need anything else, but wellbutrin is an option if I still feel like I need something more than the Topamax.

Hi, I am currently taking the brand name wellburtrin and I believe I am taking the generic topamax (so, i guess that would just be topiramate then, which is the generic name). But, I have often had my prescriptions filled with the generic wellburtrin, just for some reason they filled it with the brand name wellbutrin last time which is actuallly unusual because often the insurance won't ever cover brand name prescriptions.

Just wondering if you lost alot of weight being on both Topamax and Wellbutrin?

I was on on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for 2 years, it worked well for the most part, did not gain any weight but it was ineffective for my anxiety and was not working as much for depression near the end. I started Paxil CR 12.5 mg for 6 months (second time I m trying Paxil), I felt great but 25 lbs crept on and it has made me severely depressed. I am now off Paxil for 1.5 months and my anxiety is coming back, and havent lost any of the weight either.

I am on Wellbutrin for the last 4 weeks and have lost 5 lbs. The way I can describe it is, I don't feel like I'm starving when I get hungry. It takes away that feeling for me. I still eat, but I eat less and feel fuller sooner.

I am currently taking 10mg lexapro for anxiety, slight ocd, and slight intrusive thoughts. I have heard that taking SSRI's will cause some weight gain in many people. I know that SSRI's are most commonly prescribed as well; I guess because they work best? However, are there any other classes of drugs that i can talk to my doctor about that are very similar that are "healthier" with less side effects (specifically weight gain and sexual)?

If the topamax does the trick, why add the wellbutrin too? Why not wait and give the topamax a chance first? Wellbutrin is commonly paired with an SSRI such as Lexapro, though usually it's done to decrease the side effects of weight gain and sexual problems. If you're an anxiety sufferer as well, wellbutrin is perhaps the most stimulating of all antidepressants, so again, if you need Xanax, this might not be a first choice for you.

I've tried Topamax and had really great results with all of my disorders - bulimia, drinking, depression. It even caused me to lose weight, which I loved of course. My Way Out is mostly for drinkers because topa has shown to be very helpful in that area. The worst side effect for me on topa was feeling extremely irritable.

To try and shorten the story- I had a cerebellar astrocytoma about 9 years ago. I was on Wellbutrin before the tumor/surgery and was feeling great. Afterward they put me on fluoxetine and topamax (I no longer have migraines and weaned myself off both). About a month ago I wanted to try stopping the Wellbutrin, and my gp told me to just stop it (300 xl). I was hesitant but decided to try it.

Topamax becareful with that it caused me a week of memory loss. Some meds will put you to sleep but you would need to watch that so you wont grow dependent on them. I have the same problem with insomnia. If I were you I try to go the natural route if you could.

May I give you my experience? First I found that alone the wellbutrin and topamax work perfectly. When you add all the others it messes things up and depression happens. Later some weight came back. As soon as I took just those too I have some boughts of depression that I just live with. One deals with them like the flu-- they pass in 2 days. a massage , movie and friends help.

All I know is when I was put on Topamax I was told to start off with 25mg for the first week than 50mg then on I was on prescribed 50mg but I was increased to 75 mg in May gl

When I weaned myself off, I fell into a deep depression and had to find myself a new dr. I started Topamax and Wellbutrin, but the Wellbutrin is making my thoughts and heart race. So I have to go off. The Topamax is making me foggy, so I'll have to lower my dose. The dr. is recommending that I go on Abilify, but I'm terrified of weight gain. (I'm bulimic). I did take the 2 mg.

i have been treated with hydrocodone for two years. i want to stop this because i don't want to depend on this med. i was put on gabapentin 100 it does help me fairly well but i noticed some weight gain and i don't eat too much with this med. the dr switched me to zonegram when i read the side effect of it can cause a rash which can cause death i threw it out. then we tried topamax. i was on it one night. i also have to take serequel 100 for anxiety and wellbutrin 300 and buspar 7.

I also seem to be (ironically) a bit weepy and moody on the Topamax - BUT with that said, I read somewhere that on the lower sub-therapeutic dose that does happen? But I don't know if that is true or not and can't seem to find where I read that. Has anyone had that experience and do you level out like you do on the SSRI - SSRNI's? Any and all feedback is much appreciated. I look forward to hearing your stories.

It's not a common side effect, but I reacted very similarly to topamax. I also have lupus which my doc says is playingi into it. Havent' seen the rheumatoligist yet- a 3 month wait- and I have pull! But my appointment is next week. I digress Now that worried878 mentions it, I am much more anxious since starting it. I didn't think I was anxious before, but really ,really am now.

i was also on the devil drug, it turned me into an emotionless robot as well and getting off of it turned me into a full-on crazy person, what a nightmare that was. then i was on wellbutrin and did alright with it for awhile but like everything else, it stopped working so my doctor upped my dose to 400mg which is high but not unheard of. then one day with no warning or lead-up symptoms whatsoever, i had three huge seizures within 12 hours.

I recently went to dr to talk about possible fibro and cfs. I took blood for tests and put me on cymbalta for the time being. I am now tappering off my Effexor and up to 60 mg of the cymbalta. I haven't gotten the test results back yet. anyway, my question is--Has anyone had luck with cymbalta? And does cymbalta work for fibro and cfs? Why isn't he referring me to a neuro or a pain mgmt doc?

I noticed that once I stopped taking Wellbutrin and as my headaches improved I lowered my dose of Topamax, the weight loss eased off and it took about 6 months to get back to my usual weight. Now I am back watching what I eat, instead of eating everything in site and losing weight! Of course, this is one experience and I don't know what your specific situation is. Perhaps you can get by on a lower dose of topamax?

The Clonidine is serving as a mood stabilizer as is the Zofran even though they are for other purposes as well. Same with the rhodiola for depression. I've already mentioned the Phase II experimental antipsychotic glycine. Did not count the muscle relexants and the Klonopin helps with this but since it was originally prescribed for anxiety disorder it helps on standard psychiatric symptoms as well. The Klonopin has been 10 years now so that's the only consistent.

I'm 29 and bipolar, I was diagnosed at 19. I'm currently on a # of meds, lamictal, topamax, celexa, wellbutrin and Ativan. Lately I feel like I've been causing fights over the smallest things with my bf and then I get extremely emotional and cry. For instance I was hurt that he made plans with his family on Tuesday night bc I assumed he would want to hang out with me after work and not seeing each other for 4 days.
