Common Questions and Answers about Topamax and nausea

topamax

Avatar f tn I had severe nausea with topamax. I had to use antinausea meds In the winter hydroxozine helped and in the summer I had to use zofran.
Avatar f tn I have been having horrible headaches since at least 10/20 of this year that get to the point of nausea. They are sharp and never completely go away. Just vary in intensity to more bareable at times than others. The EEG report suggested to consider complex partial seizures. I was placed on Topamax to which I had a bad reaction and was taken off after two weeks. I am now on Trileptal for now to see how my body tolerates that.
Avatar m tn Diet modification and supplementation is a good alternative in decreasing the dosage and the associated side effects of certain medicatons such as topamax. Take care and best regards.
Avatar m tn Hello, i'm a 16 year old boy and i was prescribed topamax 25mg for migraines over a year ago. A few months ago i was also prescribed wellbutrin 300mg and prozac 10mg for depression and anxiety. When I first started taking the topamax i hardly sweated. I did start sweating a fair amount before taking the wellbutrin and prozac but the sweating has just increased since then and i've been getting large stains on my armpits just from sitting in class.
Avatar m tn He has tapered off and took his last one today. He is fine except for nausea and diarrhoea. We know nausea is a withdrawal symptom but has anyone experienced bad diarrhoea with withdrawal?
Avatar n tn I know that I suffer from chronic migraines and when mine get really bad I get nausea. That is because next to blacking out nausea is the next most severe reaction our body has to pain. It can also be something else related to a different condition though so you definitely need to see a doctor. Good luck!
284078 tn?1282616698 Fortunately, God was on her side because she was smart enough to stop the Topamax and go to the emergency room before she developed an attack of acute narrow angle glaucoma (symptoms severe eye pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, almost complete vision loss.) Her ocular pressure was actually only slightly elevated and with cessation of the Topamax, her pressure returned to normal in a day, while it took over a week for her vison to return to normal.
Avatar m tn Migraine may present with throbbing headaches with associated symptoms like nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. Topamax or topiramate is a seizure medication, which is also used to prevent migraine headaches in adults. However, it will only prevent migraine headaches or reduce the number of attacks and will not treat a headache that has already begun. Celebrex or celecoxib, on the other hand, is used to treat pain or inflammation including headaches.
Avatar f tn Spinal tap last Wednesday and that night, again severe headache, nausea, and vomiting. We were admitted to the hospital and given IV decadron, depakote, compazine, toradol, and Benadryl. She started to feel a little better, but we decided with the neurologist to do a cranial nerve block. After our discharge, we have continued with nausea, vomiting all weekend. We did increase her topamax to 50 mg and this is a side effect of this drug. We are truly at a loss and feel helpless.
Avatar f tn I started Topamax yesterday and had the worst cramps and diarrhea last night already and of course, I'm on the beginning dose of 25 mg. I'll stick it out though and try anything to get rid of these headaches.
489786 tn?1255692879 I would probably ask your doc and also look it up on the internet, I have found that very helpful.. I was taking topamax for my migraines and had to go off of it before we even started trying...now I just take midrin for my migraines it is safe to use during pregnancy. Talk to your doc about having it on hand for future headaches, not as great as the topamax but it does help me get through one without wanting to rip my head from my body...I wish you the best!
424862 tn?1203803456 Be aware it may take some time to get used to Topamax..also known in some circles as Dopamax because it can cause you to be drowsy and disconnected and have difficulty with word finding...this is more common in the early weeks of treatment. Your dr. will probably titrate your dosage.
Avatar f tn The most common side effects seen during clinical trials of topamax in preventing frequently recurring migraines were tiredness, pins and needles in the fingers and toes, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, dry mouth, weight lost, decrease in appetite, drowsiness, forgetfulness, difficulty with concentration or attention, difficulty in sleeping (insomnia), mood swings, depression, changes in taste and vision disorders.
214901 tn?1227567555 Okay, so has anyone that has been Rx'd Topamax for headaches, actually gotten crushing headaches about 1-2 hours after taking it? I am trying hard to wait it out and work through my dosage increases but this is just insane! Thanks!
Avatar f tn I am on day 14 of the Topamax and it is seems to be helping. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I have increased energy and have only had to take ibuprofen for headaches. I will keep you posted.
1100598 tn?1413127426 Morphine is usually something I personally suggest migraineurs avoid just because it can cause nausea and vomiting, and why add more nausea and vomiting to our migraine symptoms... although everyone is unique and some people do find that this medication works for them.
Avatar f tn s trying to lower my nacrotic pain medicines, so he put me on Cmybalta, tizanidine, and now trying Topamax. Anyhoo, are of you on these similar medications? And if you are are you having similar time side effects? If you did how long did they take for them to go away? Or did they! Was you able to sleep? Was you able to lose any weight? I hope that if your taking Topamax it will work for you!! Any comments will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!!
Avatar f tn I am glad you are at least getting the support of a Celebrate Recovery group, but am sorry you are not able to get "formal therapy" right now. It's really great though that you are taking the initiative to go to that group though. That's a big step in itself that you are doing it for yourself you know? Do you have insurance by chance? I know that's a bit of a personal question but insurance does usually help with therapy and such.
410475 tn?1262942367 For a while when I first started taking the topamax I was really worn and out and felt weird all of the time, but I've been on it since the end of Aug '08 and that doesn't happen anymore. I do get drowsy when I take it, but I just take it before bed now. I don't know about the diarrhea thing though. Were you eating with them? Or were you allergic?
Avatar f tn I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.
5857909 tn?1375628784 I have reduced quite all my medication and I feel like slowly back to being the person i used to be I am currently taking only 50mg of Topamax and I can say that the pain disappeared almost completely and the goal is to be free of this medicine at year end. Also I have feelings of anger, because I think I've been taking Topamax for over 10 years without any sense. I think I have found what was the source of all my chronic pain and Topamax was not helping me at all.
975514 tn?1324997938 I've been taking Topamax for about 2.5 months and since then noticed some issues with my left eye. Within a month of being on Topamax my left eye seemed very dry, so I thought I was suffering from allergies (which I do have). I purchased some over the counter allergy eye drops, which caused my left eye to dilate, which scared me. Being cautious, I went to see a optician for a basic check up because I know about the possible Glaucoma complication with Topamax as well.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever responded to the original questions posted in 2010? I am curious. I have been taking 300 mg Wellbutrin and 200 mg Topamax since May 2016 and have lost approx 30lbs. I wasn't aware of the side affects and my doctor said as long as I feel fine there is no reason to run tests. I just want to make sure others are having this same significant weight loss.
Avatar f tn Oh and vistaril too.
1830047 tn?1321667793 I have atypical migraines which attack the same area as the fibromyalgia...intestines. I get nausea, bone pain in my core area and intestional distress with a slight headache. Feels like the flu. I take topomax for the migraines morning and night which helps. I am so light sensitive that I have to stay home most of the time and have blackout shades. The diet for migraine is different than fibromyalgia so I walk the fence and follow a modified diet that is organic and healthy.
Avatar f tn My eyes became very dry (had no side effects on topamax the first time) and irritated, I read about glaucoma and was seen by a specialist the next day, he looked and pressure tests Etc and said there was inflammation and dryness, I stopped the topamax and the eye drops got the inflammation down over the next week. However ever since then I've felt the same as I did when this all first started.
