So far retina Dr was unaware of topamax being a problem . Today my pressure was 17 and 15. And neurology Dr did not know about that . Topamax generic manuf, called me back today and confirmed that the drug does raise eye pressure , they are calling my dr to talk to him. Thanks for your help. I have been on this 25 mg 7 days and 50mg 5 days so far. Going to see my glaucoma dr 10.22.16.

Topamaxx can rarely cause acute angle closure glaucoma, in both eyes in eyes that are shaped normal (unlike the usual angle closure glaucoma which occurs in farsighted and/or Asian eyes). I have seen 3-4 cases in last 15 years.

Her ocular pressure was actually only slightly elevated and with cessation of the Topamax, her pressure returned to normal in a day, while it took over a week for her vison to return to normal.

You might be looking for unusual effects of medications you may not be experiencing but you should have a standard visit to an opthamologist to check for cataracts and glaucoma and the like which are more common as people age although they have nothing to do with those specific medications. They can be ruled out and if found treated. And if its just general vision loss they can adjust the prescription for your glasses. You are concerned but may be looking for the wrong cause.

I went to the glaucoma specialist retinal specialist was next and neither want to do surgery right now but will be following me closely! My family has never had glaucoma before me! My specialist said that even though the Topomax has yet to do damage because I am at high risk and am having symptoms that I have to come off the Topomax as it can cause glaucoma! I wasn't informed of this by my NL...I found it on the internet when looking to see if any of my meds could cause it!

i started taking topamax for my migraines and seizures a long while ago.. my doc had actually put me on topamax and lorazipam together.. it did help my migraines.. its best to please talk to your doctor about this.. im not having as many seizures and only every now and then do i get a bad migraine..

Are you on Topamax? That can cause it. If so tell your MDs right away as it requires stopping topamax and not doing the laser. Yes it is very unusual for a young person to have this problem without being extremely farsighted and having thick glasses. If all the problem is angle closure then the laser PI usually cures the problem and rarely does the laser need to be repeated. However people with angle closure glaucoma also have a higher subsequent incidence of open angle glaucoma.

Referred to neurologist who prescribed Topamax and 24hr EEG. Three hours after taking first dose of Topamax 25mg I was rushed to hospital after waking from sound sleep with nausea, severe muscle spasms, and loss of speech. I personally often stop the xalatan for a few months after surgery and use another glaucoma drop instead but many doctors don't do that. Basically, if your surgeon is experienced and excellent, the chances of success are very, very high.

I am glad you are at least getting the support of a Celebrate Recovery group, but am sorry you are not able to get "formal therapy" right now. It's really great though that you are taking the initiative to go to that group though. That's a big step in itself that you are doing it for yourself you know? Do you have insurance by chance? I know that's a bit of a personal question but insurance does usually help with therapy and such.

My next appt to follow up on my suspicious glaucoma status is 7/16. My husband and I are trying to conceive right now. I wonder if it is safe to use glaucoma eye drops when conceiving or pregnant? I"m pretty sure he's gonna put me on glaucoma eye drops.

I have an astigmatism in both eyes and I have to get my eyes checked every 6mo. for glaucoma because of taking Plaquenal. I do get floaters every now and again. I have to get my Rx changed in my glasses it seems like every 6-12mo. Which usually costs me $600 to put in glasses! BTW I have readers in my glasses but they are really good cause its spread around the glasses so you don't get that weird effect. OK, so what's the difference with getting cat. surgery and Lasik?

There is a form of glaucoma (normal tension glaucoma) that sometimes fools doctors into thinking the glaucoma is under control or not present as the eye pressure seems OK but the vision might still deteriorate. If ever in doubt, you could always get a second opinion with another glaucoma specialist to make sure everything is being done correctly.

I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.

I have reduced quite all my medication and I feel like slowly back to being the person i used to be I am currently taking only 50mg of Topamax and I can say that the pain disappeared almost completely and the goal is to be free of this medicine at year end. Also I have feelings of anger, because I think I've been taking Topamax for over 10 years without any sense. I think I have found what was the source of all my chronic pain and Topamax was not helping me at all.

Has anyone ever responded to the original questions posted in 2010? I am curious. I have been taking 300 mg Wellbutrin and 200 mg Topamax since May 2016 and have lost approx 30lbs. I wasn't aware of the side affects and my doctor said as long as I feel fine there is no reason to run tests. I just want to make sure others are having this same significant weight loss.

Remember thee were studies that showed that smoking was good for you, that opioids were not addicting, and that coffee caused ulcers.

All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?

I take 100mg Topamax (actually I take the generic Topiramate) once per day. I've been on and off of this for a few years. But started taking the generic last year due to the insurance company making me switch. Anyway, when I switched to the generic, I have since started having a lot of pressure behind my left eye and into my cheek. Also, sometimes behind my right eye, but that's rarely. It's daily behind my left eye. This has been going on for a few months.

dear Doctor, my vision is blurry when I read small text and the opthamologist says I probably have early glaucoma- I did the spark field of vision test and couldn't see the peripheral sparks. I argued him into giving me steroidal eye drops. is my vision going to deteriorate and I should only read larger text? I was developing glaucoma (early stages) from steroids. I stopped the steroids and the condition resolved itself. Stop the steroids if you can. I was using Advair for COPD. There were many bad side effects. But I found that I actually got better results using natural remedies. No side effects. If COPD is your problem look to natural alternatives.
