topamax and dilantin

Right now I am actually on Keppra and Topamax and they have both kept me seizure free for over 3+ years and I have no side effects. My memory isn't that great but I'm not sure I can blame the drugs. The two of those as a combo, for me, are wonderful!

The neurologist figured the Topamax just was not working and then put him on Keppra. (He was still taking 1 dilantin and weaned off that dilantin just before going on Keppra) I had him wean off the Topamax really slow, much slower than the neurologist wanted at first but neuro. gave us his ok to wean off slow. He also weaned on Keppra at a slow dosage. The Keppra worked ok and then he had a few other seizures, one he actually ended up w/ a compression fracture in his back.

My new neurologist wants me to try depakote after keppra, dilantin, and dilantin and topamax together have failed. They did not control my seizures and I had horrible side effects. I have been using my medical marijuana which my neurologist never had anything bad to say about it just wants me to try another pill as well. I'm worried about the side effects and whether they will work when these others haven't..

Also, some of the symptoms I have, I had before I was placed on Dilantin, and he just ignored that. Keeps wanting to blame everyone of my symptoms on the Dilantin Therapy. I called my primary care physician office and asked them to get me a referral to the MSU neurology clinic. I just don't feel comfortable about this medication change, and I don't feel that it's just the "dilantin" that's causing all of my ailments.

I am 22 years old and I was diagnosed with epilepsy since I was about 5 years old. They told my mom I had 6 days to live when I was born because I had a tumor on my brain. m on the topamax, had bad acne as well in HS...no acne with the topamax. And a good side effect with the topamax is that I have lost weight. But no acne side effects with the topamax. been on it for a few yrs now.

Hi, My boyfriend had his first tonic clonic seizure at 29 years old. It happened at 4:30am. He had no recollection of it, he went to the ER, they gave him a series of blood tests and a cat scan and everything came up normal. He was referred to a neurologist who suggested an MRI and EEG. Unfortunately, he has no med insurance and couldn't get the tests without paying up front. 1 month later he had another one.

Dilantin was toxic to me in even small doses...it made me so sick. That was the first medication I ever tried and it didn't really help so my nuerologist kept increasing my dose despite what I was telling him. Then he put me on Tegretol which caused me to have major balance issues and night paralysis, every night, several times a night...very disturbing.

My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this? I'm a 34 y/o female who suffered multiple seizures after giving birth to my daughter in 2005. (I was not diagnosed with pre-eclampsia), but after after giving birth, I suffered numerous head jerking, tongue biting, loss of conciousness seizures, and was diagnosed with Eclampsia. Another drug which is commonly used in this setting is phenytoin or Dilantin. Maybe you can start this with your mother, but this also has side effects and hence may not suit her. Please do not start any medication without consulting her doctor. Take care!

i was put on Dilantin in the ER and i had such a bad reaction to it, i was almost admitted to wait out the side effect. so no more Dilantin for me! tomorrow i start 50 mg of Topamax and as long as i take it at night on a full tummy, its fine. no side effects other than my sense of taste is on and off throughout the day. i can handle that if it helps me from having any more tonic clonic seizures.

I have a TSH of 0.24 and T4 of 1.04. I have been on Dilantin for 30 years. I have been on Thyroid replacement therapy for 18 years with monthly injection of B12. I have had extreme fatigue and chest pains. Seeing neurologist for medicine change and have be referred to endocrinologist. How concerned should I be? What tests should be given? Is this my pituitary gland?

The only antibiotic that has ever been shown to interfere with birth control levels and effectiveness is a medicine called rifampin which is used to treat tuberculosis. my neuro is taking me off dilantin slowly. i take 400mg daily . my neuro told me dilantin will cause mood swings and cause me to be irritable and was hard on your body after being on them so long. i have started keppra and dropping 1 dilantin a month . i was told my moods will improve and i will start to think more clearly. my neuro told me dilantin does slow your thinking and leaves you in a fog.
