Avatar f tn So he put me on Prometrium 200mg for 12 days. I started it on 5/2 and last night I began spotting. Then today heavy flow (mostly dark brown and kinda gooey) and cramps. I have 3 days left of the Prometrium (after today) and he had said I wouldn't start until 3-7 days after. The whole idea of me taking this is to regulate my cycle (it was either this or birth control for 2 months, but he said since I an TTC to try this first).
Avatar f tn My progesterone dropped during my 4th week of pregnancy and the doctor prescribed prometrium. I am currently experiencing brief but horrible cramping accompanied with some minor bleeding. I've read the prescription information pamphlet over and over, and that is apparently a side effect. But with my history...I just need to know if anyone else experienced the same while taking Prometrium but still was able to have a healthy baby.
Avatar f tn I was in prometrium 200mg once a day with my 3rd pregnancy..and still i m/c at 17&1/2 weeks.. and i stopped taking the prometrium at my 15&1/2weeks( i should only take them for 12 weeks, but my dr told me to continued the left pills..) still don't know the reason why,, if it's bec. i stopped taking the progesterone supplement or there is some thing else..
Avatar f tn I already have a prescription for it as I am to start taking it again as soon as I get another positve pregnancy test. As far as I know its perfectly safe to take during pregnancy. Also, congrats on being through your first trimester! Thats quite a milestone, and I wish you a healthy remainder of your pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Having a black and blue tush for several months is not fun but sometimes you just have to grin and bear it to do what is best for baby.
Avatar n tn Did not take Prometrium the night before due to being told I was having m/c. I called my OB Sunday. He said to keep taking the Prometrium and have my hcg rechecked Monday. I did. Monday my hcg was 44. My bleeding was only light spotting by then. My Doctor said I was still pregnant-could be tubal, molar, or normal. He did not know. He said Progesterone levels taken previous Saturday would tell if it was tubal or molar. Monday night my bleeding became heavier and red like period again.
182352 tn?1231183410 hi everyone. i am 5 wks pregnant & my OBGYN just prescribed prometrium for low progestrone, and metformin ( the generic form of glucophage), due to my body not processing sugar properly. the prometrium bottle says DO NOT TAKE WHILE PREGNANT. i have read up on this & it seems to be a very common & helpful drug to take during early pregnancy. has anyone taken both, or either 1 alone while pregnant? my 1st pregnancy was a breeze & i hate taking anything during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I've been taking prometrium vaginally twice daily for 13 days now (started the day after my IUI) and on day 10, I started noticing a headache, a dull gnawing sensation on both sides of my head. It is day 14 of prometrium now (CD32) and I am still feeling this. If I bend over to pick up something it hurts even more.
Avatar f tn Prometrium is progesterone, and therefore if you are taking prometrium, a progesterone test will read positive. Were you taking the prometrium in your vagina or by mouth? Progesterone levels of 34 (if you are in the US) are a little high to come just from prometrium alone so I would have thought you had ovulated also. In Canada and Europle, the units used are different and a progesterone of 34 could be due entirely to the prometrium if you are writing from those countries.
Avatar f tn I got a shot every week starting at 16weeks, thank God tomorrow is my last one
Avatar m tn While taking Prometrium for luteal phase defect, I got several faint positives on home pregnancy tests. But then I began bleeding (light but steady full flow). So I stopped taking the prometrium. I've been bleeding for a few days now--still more than spotting though less than before. But I decided to take another home pregnancy test anyways because something felt funny. Two different brands of test were positive, darker than before but still quite faint. What do I do now?
666970 tn?1273759854 however, if they are between 10-25 your MD can give you progesterone supplementation because this is considered a viable pregnancy. I asked my MD to prescribe Prometrium for me since it was obvious to me that this was the cause of my miscarriages. Progesterone is what sustains the pregnancy until the placenta takes over. I was instructed to begin taking the Prometrium 3 days after I detected my Luteinizing Hormone (LH) surge via the OPK(ovulation predictor kit).
611020 tn?1290571629 Does anyone know if you're taking Prometrium, and you are miscarrying, can the prometrium prevent any sign of the m/c ? i.e. can it prevent spotting/bleeding/cramping , or will the m/c go through anyway.?
Avatar n tn My husband and I are trying to concieve our second child. With my first child I was put on prometrium for the first trimester due to low progesterone levels. This month I thought there was a chance I was pregnant and he told me instead of taking it days 16-25 I should remain on it until I know for sure if I am pregnant. I still have not gotten my period, and I am 3 days late.
Avatar f tn t exactly comfortable with taking them because my doctor informed me that prometrium is not fda approved. I decided not to take the medication. When I returned to the doctor a week later, he said that my hormone level came back at 12.4 and informed me that that is extremely low. He said that my body would have had to have produced more of the hormone otherwise I would have already miscarried. (Before the appointment with him, I had an ultrasound done that confirmed everything was normal.
175665 tn?1306459024 I am taking Prometrium and took it my last pregnancy. If your Progesterone is low you will miscarry. Likewise if there is a genetic issue with the little embryo that would cause miscarry Prometrium won't "save" the pregnancy. But at least you'll be able to get far enough along using the Prometrium to see what is going to happen and possibly prevent a miscarriage in the event your little bean is healthy as can be! Prometrium makes me feel really dizzy.
1741246 tn?1311324281 I am certain that there is no way I could be ovulating right now, and am wondering if maybe it might be my endometriosis that is acting up because of the estrogen and prometrium I am taking. Any ideas?
1221453 tn?1281092342 Hi, I was take Prometrium for the first 10 weeks of my pregnancy and now im not on it i havent had another check up since i stopped taking it. I was just wondering if anyone else had to take it and how it went after the doctor took them off of it??
Avatar f tn I was in prometrium 200mg once a day with my 3rd pregnancy..and still i m/c at 17&1/2 weeks, when they u/s me, the baby don't show movement and no heart beat.. I should only take the prometrium for first 12 weeks, but my OB told me to continued the left pills, they last till my 15&1/2weeks and on that same day we heard my baby's heart's beating.. what do you think is the reason why my pregnancy stopped at above said weeks. is it bec.
Avatar f tn Yes, prometrium will delay your period as long as you are taking it. I also found that I ovulated earlier the next cycle, like my body wanted to stay on track. The side effects were hard on me. Tjimenez10- Enodometrin is much better, just started taking it back in May instead of Prometrium. A much better product for me with a lot less side effects. It did delay my cycle recently and once I got a negative BETA, I stopped taking it and 24 hours later my period started.
Avatar f tn Prometrium should only be used in the first trimester, if your levels are low. For many years women have used progesterone in the first trimester to sustain their pregnancy. For myself mine was at a 15, they like them to be above 20. At 45, I believe that is a very good range for pregnancy and most likely do not need them. Do not take it throughout your entire pregnancy, at that point the risks are unknown.
290867 tn?1333569278 I had a m/c about 5 months before that, so I believe the Prometrium helped me sustain the pregnancy. Prometrium is a progesteron supplement, the lack of progesterone can lead to m/c, so it is supposed to help with keeping the pregnancy. Like the others said, around the end of the first trimester the placenta takes over and you no longer need the supplments.
Avatar f tn I AM 39 YEARS OLD AND HAVE HAD MY TUBES CUT SINCE BIRTHOF DAUGHTER 3 YEARS AGO I JUST TK A PREG TES 12/23/08 IT WAS POSITIVE AND ALSO TOOK ANOTHER TEST LATER THAT DAY AND IT WAS NEG WHAT SHLD I DO DID MISS DEC PERIOD BUT SINCE TAKING PREGESTERONE TOHLP LIGHTEN MY PERIODS DIDNT THINK ANYTHING OF MISSING A PERIOD TK PREG TESTS BEFORE WHN STRTD THE MEDROXYPROGESTERONE AND HAD BLOOD TEST DONE IT WAS NEG NOW JUST TAKING PROGESTERON ALONE AND GETTING POSITIVE PREG TEST PLEASE ADV ME OF WHAT TO DO
628735 tn?1273875777 Lots and lots of women are using it through the first trimester. As for when to start taking them, it depends on what it is used for. Some women take it every cycle after ovulation if their levels are too low to sustain a possible pregnancy...or to extend a luteal phase defect. Others start it once they get a positive pregnancy test...usually as a precaution.
