Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid problems

synthroid

1033165 tn?1309435416 I have been on synthroid for severel years now. I am always adjusting my meds 2-3 times a year. Is this normal. Also, the past several months I have been getting hot flashes but not lasting long. Keeping a fan on me at night from being too warm. I get moody. Are these from synthroid levels too low or could it be menopause? I had an ablation done almost 3 years ago so I no longer get periods. How do you know the difference. And how do you keep your synthroid levels steady.
Avatar f tn d also 2nd the idea of demanding to go back onto name brand synthroid since you think that worked without any problems and get off the generic.
Avatar f tn Have been on synthroid 112mg for past 10-12 years. Dosage increased in 2007 to 125mg after yearly blood work results. On amitriptyine 25mg for eight years but stopped taking it in May 2008. Nov. 2008 thyroid blood work O.K. Spring 2009 started feeling lousy with lots of anxiety symptoms. Doctor did blood work and TSH level was ay 0.08. Thyroid being over-stimulated.(can cause same symptoms as anxiety). Medication was decreased to 112 mg. Aug.blood work TSH 0.11. Now has decreases to 100 mg.
Avatar n tn Should I just go back to my original dose of 175 mcg Synthroid upon stoping Armour or wait a day or two to restart the Synthroid. Also, do you think my dosage of 175 mcg of Synthroid was too high with the lab results shown? I have an evaluation appointment with my doctor at the end of March, but would like you opinion. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Had comp. thyroidectomy 2/9, began Synthroid right after. Body does not tolerate Synth. SEVERE muscle pain & weakness, nausea, diahrrea, headache, terrible GI upsets, no appetite, body either feels very cold or constantly sweating, no enegery left to even crawl out of bed. Have seen 4 local Endo's and all say problems not the result of Synth. They all began within 1 week of begining Synth. (started at 100 mcgs. Usual TSH around 12-30) Dr.'s want to raise dose to 125mcgs.
Avatar n tn never had any problems and was hypo and untreated for years and never had a problem. less than a week after i started synthroid i had major problems and then i switched to levothyroxine the generic and still have problems. everyone says its not the med but i was hypo for years untreated and never had any problems and as soon as i started the meds i had problems and still do. my problems are the opposite of yours.
2214413 tn?1339310281 Hi I am a 17 year old and I was recently diagnosed with hypothroidism out of the blue. I actually discovered it from lots of hair loss then soon I was becoming very weak in my weights class for football. After struggling with it for a wile I convinced my mom to take me to the endochronologist. My TSH was off so she put me on synthroid. Its been two months and my hairloss still hasn't resolved its self, my scalp is very itchy and has some bumps.
Avatar f tn I suffer from depression, my doctor had a blood test done and put me on synthroid. I have hair loss, weight gain, dry skin, problems with my digestive tract like constipation and diahrea and acid reflux, constantly feeling tiredneed at least 10 hours of sleep. Is this all related to the thyroid or something else. Usually my blood tests come back normal but I take .1 mg of generic synthroid.
Avatar n tn I am on Crestor, Atenolol, Cartia and Digoxin and Synthroid. I had Tachicardia and Atrial Fib. I have symptoms of shortness of breath, a dry cough, extreme fatigue, short term memory loss, extreme joint pain and stiffness, poor balance, weakness at times, vision gets dark at times, neck and throat soreness. I'm going to my doctor because I can't function with these symptoms. Can you tell me which meds can cause this and what other meds I could take. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I was doing really really well on .137 mcg of synthroid and 50 mcg of cytomel and my dr. took me down to 25mcg on cytomel. So I stopped taking all of the meds about 2 months ago. Will the portion of my thyroid that wasn't removed begin working again? Will I have more weight gain without meds, or will it go to hyperthyroid? Or will I have more weight gain or less on the smaller dosage?
Avatar f tn I have a couple of questions. First I was wondering if its safe to take my synthroid being 9 weeks pregnant? And second I was wondering what would be most likely to cause mt problems, if its from my 1st pregnancy or my fybromyalgia or what it could be from my doctors still have no answer for me for any of my questions, please help!
Avatar f tn I had really pretty much given up hope of ever being happy again. The good news is that with synthroid and a few months of adjusting, I finally got back to 100% normal. Now 3 years later I'm back to the dark side and waiting for the increased synthroid to kick in. I'm in a bad place right now, but at least I know I can come back from it. Good luck and stay strong and figure it out!
Avatar f tn Have been taking synthroid and blood checks regularly for my thyroid. Have had u/s also each year since I have thickening but no nodules. I frequently get a full thickness feeling in my throat and a sudden onset of DIB. My HR goes up to around 90-100 per min. It is getting more uncomfortable. Is this to be expected or am I having a symptom I need to be concerned about. Have talked to my PCP but de does not feel it is anything to be concerned over.
Avatar m tn Hey guys, I'm not too sure if I'm asking the right group but. it's worth a try. Lately I seem to be having problems waking up at midnight with a high heart rate. I can't get back to sleep without taking klonopin, I think it makes me sleep but isn't doing anything for the heart rate. I am only taking 1/2 tablet of synthroid (25mcg) low dose and I still have a TSH of 6.6.
Avatar f tn Is there some reason my body is not accepting the synthroid, Like i mentioned, my levels never stay in a normal range. Now my doctor has increased my dose again to 125 mcg, however, this happened last year. My doctor raised my medication and then within 3 weeks I was in the ER because my levels were so high I had zero potassuim and was having bi-gemini, which they told me was steps away from a heart attack. Is there some reason my body won't respond to the synthroid.
404389 tn?1217030704 Look into these possibilities, if you are getting brand Synthroid and nothing else has changed, then you need a higher dose. Hypothyroidism can cause hypertension - particularly increasing the diastolic BP (the bottom number).
Avatar f tn Sometimes people who take Synthroid have these problems. I am on Synthroid and have none. Some on this forum do better on natural drugs like Armour, Nature-Throid or Westthroid. Below is the link provided by Armour to doctors in your zip code who will prescribe natural thyroid medicine because many endos won't prescribe it. http://www.armourthyroid.com/con_phLocator.
1201433 tn?1328997637 Is anyone else having thyroid problems, just got my TSH results they were 8.04, I am taking meds for thyroid 50mcc, synthetic snytroid, should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn Insomnia, flushing, muscle pain, fatique, mood swings, etc. I have always had problems taking any drugs. I seem to be pretty sensitive to them. What would you suggest taking for hypothyroidism that won't give me problems? What is everyone else taking?
251790 tn?1317312867 if this helps i have hyperthyroidism. it was scary for me at first cause i didn't know wat was goin on. it started affectin my pregnancy, i had no appetite, i would be sick, i get fast heartbeat, cold sweats. i thought i was goin to die at one point i wasnt gainin weight. u will get medication to regulate ur levels. am 32 wks pregnant, my baby is about 4 to 5 lbs. at 28 wks he was 3 lbs 2 oz. it took about 3 mths for my levels to regulate.
1691030 tn?1306069524 He would not switch me to Armour. But he changed my med to Synthroid Brand Name which has way many less inactive ingrediants. and most of them are natural products not chemicals. That was on 4/15/11. And as of today 5/21/11 my joint pains, muscle spasms and run over feeling are almost gone.
1973883 tn?1325974339 I am really confused. I have taken synthroid pills for 25 years. I was told that I had hypothyroidism. I was told that I didn't have a thyroid problem so I have been off it for 5 years. Now I go to the doctor and they say that my thyroid is too high. Is that hyperthryoidism now? What is going on? I have not lost any weight I am still heavy, but I do have some problems going on with liver tumors that have reoccurred after having the lower right side of my liver removed.
327369 tn?1326119908 I have only been on meds for a total of 1 1/2 years of that time. Last year I went hyper on a dose of synthroid and was taken off meds to stablize. Other than going hyper did not have any problems with meds really. Tried meds again a few months later (only a 25 mcg dose synthroid) and things got wacky. Anxiety out the roof, palps, etc. and the main thing was this over-energized feeling and an inability to sleep. However during this time all labs were normal and not hyper.
