synthroid

Avatar n tn I am a sever asthmatic on 8 medications, but I also have Graves disease and had my thyroid killed. Therefore, I take Amour Thyroid. What is the problem with Advair and thyroid disease? My mother and brother who have hypothyroidism are also on Advair.
Avatar f tn Also, you are still on methimazole 4 months after RAI, this is concerning that it did not work and may have aggravated/caused the thyroid eye disease. In these cases, sometimes thyroidectomy is useful. In meantime, wear sunglasses, use rewetting drops, sleep on 2-3 pillows (elevated head of bed) at night.
Avatar m tn re autoimmune thyroid disease: I am 39 yo male, wt=155lbs, ht=5ft 5in,. Current labs= tsh=18.87, free t4=1.1, free t3=3.9, t3 uptake=36.6, t4 thyroxin=5.5, t7 index=2.0, tpo ab=>1000, thyroglobin ab=245 I have tried various doses of synthroid down to 12.5mcg/day plus compounded mix of t4 and t3 and all of these gave me bad anxiety and I just felt terrible. ( I read that this reaction to synthroid could be caused by adrenal insuffiency).
Avatar n tn Do you have to have antibodies to be diagnosed with Hashimoto's? I was on synthroid .75 mcg. I have stopped taking it because it was causing so many side effects. I haven't told my doctor yet. I stopped it about a week ago. My neck doesn't seem like it is swollen much though. I have seen a naturopath and taking bovine thyroid gland and the side effects which were making me miserable seem to have gone away. Although, the lymph nodes in my arm pits are really swollen.
Avatar n tn A T4 med such as Synthroid works fine for many people as long as they convert T4 to T3 adequately. If your body converts T4 adequately, and there are no adverse reactions, I think that using only a T4 med is simpler all around. If, for whatever reason, your FT3 level is not adequately in balance with FT4, and you need to get your FT3 levels higher to alleviate hypo symptoms, then that's when adding a direct T3 source such as Cytomel, or one of the desiccated T4/T3 combo meds works better.
Avatar m tn Both of your daughter's antibody tests were positive for Hashi's, so she does have autoimmune thyroid disease. The antibodies will eventually destroy all thyroid function, but the time period between appearance of antibodies and total destruction can be months, years or decades. You can expect that while her thyroid is in decline, she will require more replacement hormones to compensate as her thyroid is able to produce less and less.
Avatar f tn Dizziness can happen while trying to adjust thyroid levels....annoying it is! I get that with my thyroid and my female cycle right before my menses.
9595194 tn?1404749116 What are the reference ranges for the T3 and T4 and are they Free T3 and Free T4 or are the Total T3 and Total T4? Tests for Total T3 and Total T4 are considered obsolete and of little value. We need more information before we can tell you very much. Have you been tested for any thyroid antibodies? You should be tested for Hashimoto's and Graves Disease. Both are autoimmune thyroid diseases. Neither can be cured, but both can be managed.
Avatar f tn You probably have the onset of osteoarthritis which usually is first noticed in the hip, especially when lying on it in bed.
Avatar f tn Not really answering your question but I went for RAI in January 2007, Just two tablets with a glass of water ! Thyroid levels took six months to go below normal. Then started with Synthroid at 75 mcg. Dose eventually settled at 125 mcg. after year and half.
1569091 tn?1295808551 Hi. Here's some info on my daughter. At 19 - married, living far away w/husband - she was found to have nodules. FNA was inconclusive. Thru blood tests found to be Hashimoto's and hypo. Removed half of her thyroid and was placed on Synthroid only for years. Her PCP changed it to LEVO and daughter became worse and gained weight rapidly. Became very ill. Immunity was quite low. Tested pos for Epstein Barr Virus. She was truly ill. Husband left her.
89559 tn?1234880265 Thank You! I'm still trying to resolve the tired issue for a couple of years now. I forgot to mention that I'm Vit D deficient as well and was started on 50000 IU for a month and then 2000 IU for fall and winter & 1000 IU for spring & summer.
Avatar n tn My wife has been diagnosed as having hypothyroid problems and has been prescribed Synthroid. She has been on synthroid for 2 years now with no improvement in her condition. Her tests always come up normal. As Synthroid is the only meds given her for this problem, can her tests always come up normal ? Her latest test showed Thyroxine (T4) 7.3 T3 Uptake 34.8 TSH 3rd Gen 3.
Avatar n tn I have an appointment booked for June 12th. Why would I have a thyroid nodule all of a sudden? Is it possible that starting the synthroid did this? I felt fine before the synthroid and I am starting to feel I should never have gone on it. I don't know what my levels were but I don't think they were very high. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I have Graves disease so my thyroid is all messed up. I was diagnosed in 2015 at 16 with TSH levels at about 420. I went into remission for the last 2 years after taking Methimazole but my thyroid levels have reached over 200 so I'm taking a radioactive iodine pill in the fall before I go back to college. From my understanding being on no medication after the thyroid has been stopped can be the reason for your exhaustion. Your thyroid is directly related to your heart.
Avatar f tn Most patients on thyroid medicine have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis like you, while a smaller number take thyroid medicine because of thyroid cancer or Graves disease. Too much thyroid medicine increases the activity of the osteoclasts (the cells that break down bone) and may increase your risk for fracture. To find the correct dose, your health care provider will obtain a thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) blood test and once you are on the correct dose, monitor your levels periodically.
Avatar n tn What is the typical length of time someone with subacute thyroiditis should be on Synthroid? Will the being on Synthroid possibly prevent me from every making my own thyroid hormone again? Thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn I have switched to Armour thyroid in 1993 (Hyperthyroidism from Graves Disease and the removal of my thyroid gland) since I found I was allergic (or having a reaction) to synthroid. The symptoms after starting the synthroid was a metal taste in my mouth. I kept developing more and more symptoms every month I was on it (digestive problems, staid muscles) until I finally (after being on it for nine months) developed rheumatoid arthritis symptoms over my entire body.
Avatar n tn Most of the time - Thyroid medication is a life long treatment.
Avatar f tn I had thyroid cancer and had my whole thyroid removed 6 months before the pain started, so I had also been on synthroid for six months. I went to a thyroid specialist doctor who saw that I never had the radioactive iodine scan or treatment, so he took me off the synthroid for almost 8 weeks to get my levels where they needed to be to proceed with the scan. During this period, the pain subsided and improved greatly.
Avatar n tn No synthroid, and now look at my levels. Thyroid still isnt functioning. He wants me to go in 3 months for another blood test, and still does not want me on synthroid just yet. I also cannot sleep at all sincey my surgery. What can I do to try to increase my good 1/2 thryoid to function normally. Are these results very bad. Does my body still need time to adjust? Will it kick in? What should I do? I'm upset over my TSH level after surgery.
Avatar f tn I was otherwise healthy 49 yr old going thru menopause, wanted testing for thyroid, finds out my antibodies are high, was sent to Endo who even though TSH was good put me on Synthroid, after 2 weeks major hives, stopped Synthroid hives come and go. MY endo doesn't belie ve its from high antibodies or synthroid been to 6 dr's, HELP!!!! Seen Derma, Allergist, 2 er dr's my primary, and Endo!!!! On non stop antihsitamines and Visatril and I dont take meds, hate this!
Avatar f tn I would love to hear from other Hashimoto sufferers what phases they have noticed in their disease, how long the phases lasted, and their synthroid dosage, thyroid size and symptoms at each of the phases. I would especially appreciate hearing from others who have been told their thyroid is sputtering and what they have experienced and learned. Thanks!
215752 tn?1278004771 I don't feel any difference with the medication or without it. I have no symptoms that i have thyroid, the levels was found after a generall blood work. If i remember correctly i was feeling more tired while on the medication. I don't know what doctor to believe i know that every doctor has their theory. The first doctor gave me 75mcg of synthroid which i took it only for a couple of weeks.
Avatar m tn There is a blood test that determines whether one has hashimoto's thyroiditis or whether one just has thyroid disease. the test for hashimoto's is a different test than the other one. the doctors should do both tests at the same time [i just had that done two weeks ago, as a matter of fact]. with regards to your father-in-law -- apparently he is one of those lucky people who can quit their thyroid meds. but that doesn't mean that he still does not have thyroid disease.
519035 tn?1348275773 So follow up with the doc. I was put on 75mg of synthroid. The last two weeks were miserable by the way! I have candida outbreaks etc. I saw her today for my physical. She saw that the goiter was pretty enlarged.( I had my ultrasound, no cancer seen) I have to go back for more tests on tsh. She only wanted me to take 25 mg of synthroid today felt so much better, and then tomorrow start back up on 50 mg. My question is I gained another 15 lbs, since i weighed myself.
