Synthroid and heart problems

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and heart problems

synthroid

Avatar n tn I am on Crestor, Atenolol, Cartia and Digoxin and Synthroid. I had Tachicardia and Atrial Fib. I have symptoms of shortness of breath, a dry cough, extreme fatigue, short term memory loss, extreme joint pain and stiffness, poor balance, weakness at times, vision gets dark at times, neck and throat soreness. I'm going to my doctor because I can't function with these symptoms. Can you tell me which meds can cause this and what other meds I could take. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Hello all I'm needing some insite. I keep having heart palpitations. I'm on 125 mcg of synthroid and 5 mcg of cytomel. If I'm startled, get winded or at night I get heart palps. I can't get them to calm down. I don't know if I need more hormone or less. My endo says I'm overmedicated but my labs show undermedicated.
Avatar m tn I am on Armour and I am one of the ones who didn't benefit from Synthroid - you are very lucky your found Synthroid to work best for you - it is the thyroid drug of choice and many doctors will not continue Armour if you need to change to someone else. Go back to what works - and the question is still ot there - Why did you try it if Synthroid was working?
Avatar f tn both thyroid out. am on 125 dose of synthroid, was on 75 and then it was upped to 125. My heart is now beating out of rythym, its hard to breath normally, and I can't do the usual amount of excercising I usually do. It's been a month and endocrinologist doesn't seem to think there's a connection of heart and thyroid or usage of synthroid. I'm very frustrated. The heart problems are frightening.
Avatar m tn t see it. I am also taking prilosec and gaviscon for stomach problems and I seem to have my heart palpitations under control with my stomach getting better. ( i believe they were gerd related) Perhaps the prilosec is causing my heartrate to go up. perhaps it is causing me to work through my synthroid faster? What do you all think?
Avatar n tn I started taking synthroid on May 2 and was suppose to have a period around the 19th of May but never did and here it is June 9th. The strange thing is that periodically I feel like I am going to start, (symptoms that I usually get before I do) but I guess I just wish I knew if this was normal or not.
Avatar f tn When I work out or do physical activity, I now get dizzy and my heart rate spikes up to 180. This happens while running half a mile. I use to work really hard to get my heart rate to 170 before the surgery and notice it easily surpases that rate now. Does anyone have insight to whether this could be a symptom of the synthroid? Thanks.
Avatar n tn A few weeks ago I had my thyroid and para-thyroid glands removed. My doctor assures me that I am getting enough TSH and Free T4 with the synthroid I am on...100mcg. However, I don't feel well....I am awake all night due to night sweats and anxiety, my heart rate spikes incredibly high, and I am exhausted. Not to mention, I can't get rid of the shakes and pringly sensations. I was fine before surgery, and now i am not, despite the fact the doctor says it is not related.
Avatar f tn I have been on generic, Synthroid and Levoxyl at one time or another, and they all cause increased episodes of tachycardia. In my case, I think it's the actual medicine in the pills that causes the tachy, not the fillers. I'm also on a beta blocker to control the tachy. My guess is that it's your increase that has caused the PVCs, not the generic versus Synthroid.
Avatar f tn If you are on calcium for heart problems and need to take it more often (and find the 4 hours impossible to work around) talk to your endo. The calcium prevents proper absorption of the thyroid meds so your meds may need to be increased as long as you are taking the calcium regime. Make sense?
Avatar n tn Synthroid may cause a number of heart related side effects include abnormal heart rhythms. Also, nutrient demands increase when metabolic rate speeds due to thyroid medication. SVT may be due to a nutrient deficiency state. Electrolytes in particular need to be checked for an imbalance. Electrolytes include sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, phosphates, bicarbonate.
Avatar f tn I just saw these posts about Synthroid and arrhythmia. I have hypothyroidism and have been on Synthroid for over thirty years with no problems. Two years ago I started with PVCs. Of course, at the time I had no idea what it was and wondered if I'd make it to the next day. As you can see I did. Heart arrhythmia is scary. The doc said my thyroid levels were high. I stopped the Synthroid and I felt great. Now two years later, the same thing.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed hypo 6 years ago. Tried Synthroid & symptoms were still there. My doctor put me on Armour 3 yrs ago. I loved it all symptoms were gone except the weight & fatigue. I developed terrible heart palpitations while on Synthroid so when I switched & noticed that had stopped, I was excited! Well, last year I ended up in the ER with PAC's & reflux. I was told they were normal. Saw my doc & was diagnosed with ADD. I've been on adderol ever since.
Avatar m tn I was on armor for 5 years and never had problems. I began to have problems in April, pulled off all meds in May, retested in June, found out that I'm still hypo and just started synthroid 2 days ago. Had quite a few palps last night and am praying that these will pass with time. I was on another site where there were actually quite a few people who indicated that once they got to a point where they were closer to euthroid the palpitations ended!!! I hope there are some here too.
Avatar f tn What is the connection between thyroid problems and heart problems from medications? I have been taking synthroid for about seven years, currently on 125mg. I have been having problems with my heart rate and beat. It goes very fast and then goes very slow. I have a lot of irregular beats and now my cardiologist wants me to do an ablation but I am convinced that something else is causing this. I have just gotten my thyroid levels checked and they are fine.
Avatar f tn From what I am reading people seem to struggle with the same heart problems and tremors. Any help would be appreciated....remember I have no thyroid gland anymore.
Avatar n tn By all means start with a synthetic T4 hormonr like Synthroid first. And if your T3 levels are still low, then add T3 cytomel brand to the mix. If that all fails to deliver results then you go the dessicated route. And - when starting hormone replacement med, many have to start at a very small dose and work up to prevent shakes heart racing ect. I only had breathing probs when very hypo on a med that was not working. T4 was below the range (off) at the time.
Avatar f tn First, if you have other options, sounds like you need to shop for another endo (or else just let your more in-tune primary manage your thyroid meds unless there are problems). My guess is that your endo does a lot more diabetes work than thyoid. NO, these things are NOT in your head! I don't know anything about fillers in Synthroid, but perhaps others can comment on that.
Avatar f tn Very difficult due to the fact that Armour has T3 in it and Synthroid and other versions of that only have T4 and your body must convert it. I have only learned that from the message boards. Had no problems over the years and was lucky and had no need to research until my thyroid went out of whack in December and continues today. I am glad you have no problems - I know my heart palpitations stopped since I went off the Armour - but that is just me and everyone is different.
Avatar f tn I am in no way at ALL dissing ( i cant believe i said that word) but for me.. synthroid and armour really did a number on my heart.. probably due to different fillers.. or perhaps. too much of something in them. i ended up at the heart hospital once with severe pvc's due to one type. talk to your doc.. they should know what to do.. it could be just the formulation.. as your thyroid controls just about every thing in your body. best wishes to you .. hope that you start to feel better..
Avatar n tn 1 Due to not feeling great my endo put me on 1 grain Armour, and 75 mcg Synthroid. Everything seemed fine for about 3 weeks, but lately have been feeling bad. The feeling is kinda like too much caffine, or a hypoglycemic episode, that eating doesn't help. Also some slight heart palpitations. Is it possible to be hyper even though in coverting the dosage of 60 mcg of Armour and 75 mcg of Synthroid it should be a little lower than my previous dosage of 175 mcg of Synthroid?
Avatar f tn I had 23 nodules that came back A typical cells. My levels were fine at the time so they said that was a good indicator that it could become thyroid cancer. I had an Endocrinologist that treated me before the surgery and after, but she transfered to another state. My GP said he could treat me, but I've had 3 doctors try to treat this and it's the same. I finally found another Endocrinologist so I will ask about these other test when I see her.
Avatar f tn Hi, Dr. Nicholson! Thanks so much for answering our questions. I was diagnosed Hashimoto's in August, and since then have begun treatment. I am now on Synthroid 75 mcg and Cytomel 5 mcg. My nodules have shrunk to pencil points. My labs and symptoms show I'm still hypo. However, I have hyper symptoms (shaky hands, rapid heart beat, ear ringing) along with hypo (constipation, fatigue) during my monthly cycle. My monthly cycle is also painful and heavy.
1157054 tn?1266094164 I restarted my meds and I am still having problems but each spell with my heart is less severe. I thought I was going to die. It was awful. My blood pressure would shoot up over 200 with these spells and I would just be scared to death. It is encouraging to hear from others that low thyroid does effect our heart. I have been back on meds for 2 weks now and hope it will soon be completely better. thanks.
Avatar m tn I am a 52 year old male who has had Hashimoto's most of my life. I was first diagnosed with hashis in the late 20s but I was having hyper symptoms that we managed with tranquilizers. In the following years the doctors never ran the correct antibody tests or the antibodies no longer showed up and the doctors said It was probably just anxiety. At at 40 I had a TSH reading of 6 and started Armor, my doctor originally tried to put me on 50mcg of synthroid but I had too much anxiety.
1033165 tn?1309435416 I have no thyroid at all in by body. Had large goiters in 2002 and had one side and middle area removed and then in 2007 had the other side removed for same reason.
1315180 tn?1274027164 I finally started getting my energy levels back and then my heart started racing and my endo took me off synthroid for 6 weeks. The heart problems stopped and I felt great too. When I went back my thyroid level had dropped to .7 so he started me on 1/2 of a .50 synthroid and is going to increase my dose every 6 weeks by .25. Unfortunately last week I got a cold and my energy was zapped again. I'm over the cold but still have no energy.
Avatar f tn Docs have run tons of tests and no answers but NO heart tests. All GI tests. I emailed the Dr today to see if she thought it could be heart related but I didn't get a response yet. I don't want to take the Ativan unless it's safe. Maybe all my problems are stress/anxiety related? My last TSH was on 11/29 and it was 2.65 but on 11/4 was 4.50 so it is slowly coming down. I am currently on the same dose of meds 75mcg of Synthroid, coming off of 125mcg of Synthroid...
