Symbicort for emphysema

Common Questions and Answers about Symbicort for emphysema

symbicort

Avatar n tn COPD is the umbrella term that includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The symbicort is good for reducing the inflammation (therefore narrows the breathing tubes) in the lung pathways. It should help your bronchitis.
Avatar n tn Spiriva (titropium) is a inhaled antihistamine indicated for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Antihistamines frequently cause dry mouth and dry sinuses (benadryl is an antihistamine). The side effect is not considered serious, but you should call your physician if it continues. A saline nasal spray can moisturize the sinuses and possibly reduce the symptoms.
Avatar f tn My husband who is 66 years of age has emphysema for 5 years now. He is prescribed 16 hrs oxygen daily (we have machine)but only uses this when he feels he needs it (some days as little as 3 hours). He daily takes spiriva, symbicort and sabutamol inhalers and calcichew tablets also mucodyne capsules occassionally. These are prescribed by his doctor. He also takes Nytol (over the counter) herbal sleep tablets quite often.
Avatar f tn In looking at the drug interaction information, it seems that those who are taking the corticosteriods, are even more at risk for muscle rupture and more at risk for developing pneumonia. A chest x-ray a couple of days ago confirmed that I do NOT have pneumonia now, but I can still hear sounds in my lungs when I do deep breathing.
Avatar f tn I would like to know whether I should use the inhalers they gave me (spiriva and seretide) for my condition, COPD, irrespective of whether I get some relief from them. Can they slow down the lung deterioration process? Should I really go on inhaling for ever?... in other words, if these medicines are only - or mostly - intended to make me feel better (which they don't), can I stop taking them? I perceive them as a nuisance and the result of a pharmaceutically oriented approach.
Avatar m tn Getting pain in my back lower ribs, Been on Pred 8 for 4 days, 6 for 3 days - 4 for 3 days and finishing up with 2 for 3 days 5mg, I am aslo on ventolin, Sprivia, and symbicort... any suggestions or advice ? I also just finished 6 Moxifloxacin HCL 400 mg, Nothing seems to be doing the job.
Avatar f tn I have copd and use spiriva and symbicort. They are both very helpful for my symptoms however you think advair is expensive????? All of the breathing medications I use are out of sight. It is really sad when a person can't breath and have to pay so much just for air huh?
Avatar f tn here in the uk many people get symbicort for asthma , I have been on it for around a year , and I was only diagnosed with copd a cuople of weeks ago . I found it helped me enormously, it is probably an issue of cost why they dont give it to you , as each inhaler costs around £70...
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed spirit and foradil for me in 2005 because he said I had beginning of emphysema. this was done without any breathing tests, etc. In 2010, I had pulmonary testing done because I had moved to another state and wanted to make sure I had everything covered, medically. My new pulmonologist asked that I never return to my former doctor because he had prescribed these medications and I had not a hint of emphysema.
Avatar m tn I use Symbicort for my asthma, too. I don't have high blood pressure, so I've never had a reason to monitor my blood pressure, but I looked up the side-effects of Symbicort and it says changes in blood pressure can occur. There was also a warning to use caution in patients who have severe high blood pressure. As far as I can tell, there are no known interactions between Symbicort and blood pressure medicines.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I am taking inhaled symbicort for months but I still have breathing problems
Avatar f tn This pregnancy, my asthma has flared up for weeks and has gone from moderately severe to severe. I just saw my pulmonologist for the first time today, and he prescribed me Symbicort, which is safe and I was not at all concerned about. I now have monthly appts with him to monitor my asthma throughout my pregnancy. My question is: Did an increase in severity of your asthma cause you to become high risk?
Avatar n tn Symbicort does not cause "soaring" blood sugars. Consult your enchronologist. You may need to go to an injectable insulin, such as Lantus.

959034 tn?1253671476 I'm afraid I have no idea on this one. I'm still in the process of working things out with the specialist. She's left me on Symbicort for now and is looking into testing me for GERD. If it's that simple, I will be very happy. Her other alternative was to try 2 things. (1) I am to use the pulmicort 400 ug inhaler in conjunction with the oxeeze inhaler. These are the same two components as in the symbicort.
Avatar n tn It shows a doubt of early centrilobular emphysema. I never smoked and checked for Alpha1 Antitrypsin. It came back normal. I am thin from my childhood itself. The doctor says few thin people scan shows these kind of changes. Being a non smoke doctor says we can ignore this for time being. Also doc says if it is emphysema it should be progress quickly. But my symptoms stays same for about 5-6 years. Some days its manageable with medicines but some days its not. I was also tested for IgE level.
Avatar f tn I have been taking symbicort for about 8 months and in that time i notice that my weight has gone up by around 1 stone (14llbs), i have never been overweight and have always eaten healthily and taken exercise. No matther how many times i go to the gym or how much salad i eat it wont go away. None of my clothes fit me and i have gone up a bra size or two.

1511949 tn?1290193751 omg. thanks for mentioning symbicort. i started symbicort a while ago, and my throat clearing has gotten worse. my doctor has put me on nexium to dry up things, but i stopped taking it - just felt i didnt need it at the time. i may need to go back on the nexium or find out if the omnezaprole will work too.
Avatar f tn In the mornings i sometimes have a puff of my symbicort first, then immediately go out for a cigarette (I know, I know). I take the symbicort because my lungs feel tight. The thing is that since i started smoking weed daily, i have never had a proper asthma attack (they were severe when i was younger). I know im killing my lungs which is why i am taking drastic measures to quit cigarettes.
718416 tn?1259680550 I have recently been prescribed symbicort, but for some reason I read that corticosteroids are more widely used? Does anyone know whether long term acting beta agonists or cortisteroids are safer long term? What is safer on the heart? Also does xanax counter effect the high blood pressure etc. associated with asthma medicines?
Avatar f tn RRT makes a good point as far as rehab goes, I am currently on my 4th round of rehab to try and strengthen my muscles, especially those that are responsible for breathing. A stronger muscle makes for more efficient use of O2, therefore, less respiratory effort.
Avatar n tn Having been on Advair for one year, I now have "frogs" in throat which causes me - a singer - to lose my voice when singing low notes. The Advair was discontinued and I am now on Symbicort which, I am afraid, is causing the same problem. Is there a simple "home remedy" for this problem? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Finally my doctor diagnosed pneumonia and put me on antibiotics, Avamys and Symbicort. Unfortunately, either the Symbicort or the Avamyst has given me a fungal infection in the throat (and beyond ... it seems to go down quite far). This was not too unexpected as Advair gives me horrible thrush that lasts for months. My question however is, if I stop taking the Symbicort and the Avamys will the thrush go away, or should I go see my doctor to get anti-fungal stuff (i.e. Nystatin)?
