I can walk a mile but have to rest as I still desaturate on 6L O2. Recently started Symbicort inhaler and systemic blood pressure went up 180/108 and was wondering if the med would be likely to raise pulmonary pressure as well. Doctor added HCT to already prescribed Diovan which seems to be working but am on low dose of Symbicort and may have to increase it.
Symbicort does not cause "soaring" blood sugars. Consult your enchronologist. You may need to go to an injectable insulin, such as Lantus.
I am a 32 year old male with a somewhat mild case of asthma, and I take symbicort and albutoral as medication. I hate it. I recently developed some PVCs (heart palpatations), and I would really like to use a long term asthma controller in place of the symbicort that does not have increased heart rate as a side effect.
Are there any somewhat effective asthma medications (long term controller, not rescue inhaler) that do not have increased heart rate as one of the side effects?
I have shortness of breath quite often, along with weakness, grouchy moods, inability to concentrate, trouble remembering things, depression, headaches. I also suffer from real bad allergies. I take meds for depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol & Diabetes type 2. I also take sleeping pills. I had a persistent cough that would not go away so my regular doctor prescribed Symbicort & Advair Inhalers. Ever since I am inhaling the sprays my cough has stopped.
When I was pregnant, my asthma attacks suddenly kicked up in winter - cold dry air is always bad for me but the pregnancy was making it worse. I started to take Symbicort, it helped a bit - my OBGyn was OK with that medication, you can mention it to your doctor. Not a miracle cure though.
The Albuterol inhaler (blue spray?) never worked for me and it will also get my heart racing very badly.

I think it is possible for some of asthma medications to affect blood pressure. I'm 90 pounds and only 21 years. My blood pressure has been 109/83 to 120/94 now that I'm on daily asthma medication when it was 100/70 last year before I was diagnosed. The higher reading was when I was on max dose of symbicort and prednisone. I believe the medications have something to do with it.
Then again, they were done at my chiropactor's office and he has never said anything about them.
You should ask your physician to give you a try on Foradil aerosolizer, 12 mcg (formorterol fumarate inhalation powder), twice a day. It has the disadvantage of raising blood pressure, and very expensive, but it works very well and in some cases can eliminate the need for oral prednisone and all other medications. The manufacturer has a special till December and will give a months free supply to any physician making a request.

Later that afternoon I went to the ER because I felt short of breath again but this time tingling on my hands and arms. THey did an ekg which was normal, blood pressure was normal and heart beats per min were 106. The doctor there said I was hyperventilating and told me to calm down and take calcium supplements. Yesterday as I was walking to the train, once again difficulties breathing and heart was racing. So I called out from work.
I have been taking symbicort for about 8 months and in that time i notice that my weight has gone up by around 1 stone (14llbs), i have never been overweight and have always eaten healthily and taken exercise. In 2006 I suffered what the hospital said was a panic attack, my potassium levels were on the lower side and they felt that could have triggered it, fine. After having pneumonia a month ago, and taking antibiotics and symbicort, his blood sugar started droping extremely low especially at night. The Dr said to stop the symbicort and it should be ok.

I was given some kind of antibiotic shot in the butt, and then sent home with three doses (days) of Azithromycin (500 mg per dose). I was also put on blood pressure medication for the first time. It is Lisinopril, 10 mg in the morning and evening. Other than this I take Spiriva once a day and use albuterol by nebulizer. I also take many supplements every day.
Does Symbicort 80/4.5 (budesonide 80 mcg and formoterol fumarate dihydrate 4.5 mcg) Inhalation Aerosol effect the eyes? Does it raise the interocular pressure if used with known glaucoma?

She said I was quite a bit lower than expected, especially for the amount of exercising I do. She gave me albuteral and symbicort (plus some hayfever meds) and asked me to use the peak flow meter. I generally have been at about 450 on the flow meter and for my size and weght (6' tall and 160 lbs) it says I should be about 650. I don't seem to see any real improvement when I use Albuteral. The Symbicort keeps me awake at night when I take the 2x spray/2x a day.
