5037123 tn?1362663006 Hello LAC936, I have asthma and I have had asthma for more than 10 years atleast. My doctor has prescribed Pulmicort which I take 2 times a day. You have to rinse your mouth after you take Pulmicort. I also take something called Bricanol which is also an inhaler which my doctor told me to use as needed. I've seen commercials for Advair. The commercials state that not everybody is a candidate for Advair. One idea is to google - possible side effects of Advair.
Avatar m tn I am a 32 year old male with a somewhat mild case of asthma, and I take symbicort and albutoral as medication. I hate it. I recently developed some PVCs (heart palpatations), and I would really like to use a long term asthma controller in place of the symbicort that does not have increased heart rate as a side effect. Are there any somewhat effective asthma medications (long term controller, not rescue inhaler) that do not have increased heart rate as one of the side effects?
1580703 tn?1651904887 thanks so much for your help! my FEV1 was 73 and I have asthma attacks/shortness of breath at night even on symbicort (maybe it's better on Dulera) I feel better after I take some oxygen and I have sleep apnea where my O2 levels fall to about 70% at night do I need to try a different inhaler or be on oxygen during the day? on those finger oximeters my O2 level is sometimes around 94% during the day but I thought 100% is normal?
Avatar f tn I started a new Job in October and ever since then I have had difficulty breathing and some days I lose my voice almost totally. I have been in and out of the Dr and now using Symbicort and taking prednisone. It is wierd this only happens during the week while I am at work. Weekends seen to be fine after a little time away. Is this Asthma or am I alergice to my workplace? Should I test the air quality?
Avatar n tn She said I was quite a bit lower than expected, especially for the amount of exercising I do. She gave me albuteral and symbicort (plus some hayfever meds) and asked me to use the peak flow meter. I generally have been at about 450 on the flow meter and for my size and weght (6' tall and 160 lbs) it says I should be about 650. I don't seem to see any real improvement when I use Albuteral. The Symbicort keeps me awake at night when I take the 2x spray/2x a day.
718416 tn?1259680550 I looked up Symbicort online (WebMd had an excellent write up for example). I know the fast acting inhalers like albuterol can cause temporary increased heart rate (about 10-15 minutes). That's the one I use most often. Next comes the steroids (oral or inhaled) for asthma management. I've used beclomethasone in the past and that's helped. My kids have used prednisone (oral) a few times but I personally avoid that one.
Avatar m tn Called my doctor for advise, he sends me to the Emergency room saying that these are sympoms of stroke. Have asthma and know that in the hospital I will be staffed with more cortizone type medicine. Should not there be some remedy for relieving symptoms? Definitely I have allergy, feel synus. Why the only recommendation are steroids?
Avatar n tn Its probably not that much help but you can use advair with provetil as I was on the two for years until I was moved to symbicort and I can still use the proventil as needed.
Avatar f tn I just got a cold which is now exacerbating the asthma. Can I use the symbicort that I used to use when I got a cold or should I use the Asmanex that was my controller medication, or something else?
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was diagnosed with acute asthma last year and have been on symbicort/proventil for months, also singulair and took prednisone and methylprenisolone and I am still having breathing problems and chest tightness. taking some HC lately helped me breathe better and relax but still having breathing problems today. can you please help me??
Avatar m tn He seems to now believe that the episode in 2009 was due to smoke inhalation and is confident that I have had asthma whole time and that is what he diagnosed me with in June 15th 2015. Looking back now I realize that I was allergic to my cat after i moved to Raleigh from Ft. Laud so possibly change environment triggered asthma. I notice that exertion early on in exercise made me feel shortness of breath but would subside shortly after initial exercise.
Avatar m tn I use Symbicort for my asthma, too. I don't have high blood pressure, so I've never had a reason to monitor my blood pressure, but I looked up the side-effects of Symbicort and it says changes in blood pressure can occur. There was also a warning to use caution in patients who have severe high blood pressure. As far as I can tell, there are no known interactions between Symbicort and blood pressure medicines.
Avatar n tn Have you tried symbicort? My asthma doc recently changed me to this and it has worked better for me.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I've been having breathing problems and chronic fatigue with asthma even after taking Symbicort and singulair regularly. I was prescribed 30mg prednisone for a week. is this high dose ok?

Avatar f tn When you get an attack of asthama, start with ventolin and symbicort. Drink coffee, if you feel like. If you feel that your asthma is aggravating, get hospitalized and get salbutamol nebulization.
Avatar n tn A careful nasal examination, Allergen-specific testing includes Skin testing, Serum tests for allergy, Allergen challenge and as well as Evaluation for concurrent conditions like Sinusitis and Asthma is necessary and it directs further steps for management. Also you are on various medications, some of these are known to reduce the blood potassium levels (like thiazides) and can cause weakness known as hypokalemic periodic paralysis.
Avatar f tn There is another new medication called symbicort, that is what I use and I LOVE it. It takes care of all of my chronic asthma conditions and I use an emergency inhaler for when I have a trigger that causes an attack. Check your side effects. I know for a fact that Singulair can cause ear ache and chest infection as well as other annoying side effects because I have had them, I got off of the medication because I didn't see improvement, my friend stayed on it and loves what it does for her.
Avatar f tn I am having a very difficult time finding out if my breathing problems are asthma or something else. I was first diagnosed with asthma when I was around 3 years old and had on and off symptoms my whole life, sometimes disappearing for years. My grandma also had asthma. Problems came back a few years ago when I was around 22. I get this feeling that I cant breathe all the way in and that I will suffocate. I yawn a lot to try to get air in and feel breathless.
Avatar f tn Could it be asthma? I have asthma and sometimes I get pains, particularly in winter. And it was worse when I was pregnant. Ask your doctor if you can take baby aspirin, it's quite harmless and a lot of women take it for clot disorders. I have a clot disorder and took baby aspirin from the beginning of my pregnancy to almost the end. I think it would reassure you if you were to take it. Ask your doctor about it!!
1154802 tn?1266485720 The best thing to do is try to narrow down your triggers and take steps to avoid them, this will help to keep the asthma under control and using less ventolin. Are you using a peak flow meter to watch your lung volume? This really helped me because I found I was using my ventolin when my lung volume was fine and it was really anxiety. You should also be under care from a pulmonlogist, so it is someone that specializes in asthma and know the medications and how to treat.
Avatar f tn i was diagnosed with asthma 3 yrs ago. i still have symptoms everyday and attacks 2-3x a week. i've had a increase in symptoms in the last several months even to the point where it has become a quality of life issue for me. i recently asked my doctor about trying a very low dose of daily pred to releive my symptoms, to which he replied," it'll kill you." i figure my asthma will likely kill me long before the pred does.
