protein

Avatar m tn A couple months ago after reading a comment somewhere on the web about possibility of soy and hooters, I did feel that I was getting swelling and then noticed some pain to touch too. So I quit taking the Soy protein for a while and went through a large can of whey protein. Didn't notice any change though and then went back to Soy because I still had a large can of that here. But I may stop using it again and see if it makes any difference.
Avatar n tn Edamame is just a word for soy bean. It's the soy bean itself, not processed into other foods. As for most soy being fermented, this is untrue. The only nation that eats mostly fermented soy is Indonesia, where tempeh is the favored form. In most Asian countries the favored form is tofu, which isn't fermented. As for isoflavones, these are only high in specially formulated forms of soy, particularly isolated soy protein.
418700 tn?1212682049 in addition to all the nutrients and protein, soy contains a natural chemical that mimics estrogen, the female hormone. Some studies in animals show that this chemical can alter sexual development. And in fact, 2 glasses of soy milk/day, over the course of one month, contain enough of the chemical to change the timing of a woman’s menstrual cycle.
Avatar f tn t take the sublingual, bioidentical progesterone he prescribed nor should I continue to eat protein bars and other sources of soy protein which provide a natural bioidentical estrogen. She said there is an increased cancer risk associated with both progesterone and estrogen supplementation. Since I have high risk HPV (cancer causing) I should not take these supplements. Does anybody know anything about the increased cancer risk associated with bioidentical hormone enhancement???
Avatar f tn Common Western foods and beverages are fermented, such as The soy used in our country, however, is primarily non-fermented soy in the form of soy-protein isolate and soy milk. It is the non-fermented form of soy that is causing so many of the problems with soy foods. The soy industry would have you believe that Asians eat lots of soy. Since Asians suffer less chronic illness than most Western people, then soy must be a healthy food. How much soy do Asians actually eat?
Avatar f tn The vast majority are benign breast tumor that may appear at any age,but they are more common in women in their twenties and thirties. These benign lumps, are not related to breast cancer and are known to increase in size and tenderness in relation to the menstrual cycles due to hormonal changes. In many cases fibroadenomas could go away on their own within a few years. The development of these tumors is probably related to reproductive hormones.
4808549 tn?1359436104 Hi, there I believe eating a diet reach in soy protein (tau foo, soy milk, soy protein powder, etc) is my answer to enhance my breasts naturally. I complement this diet with herbal breast enlargement serum. By religiously following this regimen my breasts have grown from 34B to 36C. I am 54 and very proud of my firm and sexy cleavage.
587083 tn?1327120262 I was a regular consumer of soy milk, tofu, edamame and flax seed after menopause. After my diagnosis of breast cancer (estrogen positive) my oncologist recommended I avoid soy products because even the weak phytoestrogens may stimulate cancer cells. Research is not conclusive but better to be safe. As the addage goes, 'all things in moderation.
Avatar n tn I had an estrogen positive cancer and am conservative with phytoestrogens like soy. Here is some info you may find interesting, from Wikipedia: Phytoestrogens, sometimes called "dietary estrogens", are a diverse group of naturally occurring non steroidal plant compounds that, because of their structural similarity with estradiol, have the ability to cause estrogenic or/and antiestrogenic effects.
Avatar f tn Animal proteins can be dangerous since it makes your body produce the hormone insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), which promotes aging and increases your risk of cancer (particularly breast cancer) when present in high levels.
Avatar n tn Estrogen doesn't cause breast cancer but it does feed it. If estrogen was the cause of breast cancer more young women would be being diagnosed with it when their estrogen levels are at their highest. Most diagnosis are made in post menopausal woman. There is one theory of thought that it may be estrone that really feeds breast cancer. Estrone is what our fat cells produce after menopause. Estradiol is what our ovaries made in our 20's and 30's.
Avatar f tn I have had mammograms on a regular because my mom passed from breast cancer and so far all tests have cone back negative. It is not just one breast it is both. They just suddenly started hurting. Nipples very sore. Thank you for any input.
Avatar f tn I had a mammo and ultra sound of my left breast. There is no cancer in my family. I am the first one ever to suddenly have come up with a cyst, which the radiologist says is a BI-RADS 4 - Suspicious. I am 52. On June 19, I started taking Glucusomine 2000 mg. by Schiffs, which contains Soy Lecithin.
377296 tn?1281095438 The problem though is that most of the soy products on US shelves are the nonformented variety- Tofu, Edamame, Soy flour, Soy Protein Isolate, Soy Milk, Soy Lecithin, Vegetable Oil (with soy). These nonformented products contain high levels of toxins which are the subject of controversy b/c of the studies showing they can cause cancer, diminish thyroid function, cause hormone imbalances, and on and on. For me, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
419158 tn?1316571604 I have bugga on SOY from good start, and so far its okay, we did have her on soy on similac and she was okay with that as well. But with the regular formula with milk protein in it, she would spit that up...So Idk if it could be different brands as well. Its sooo funny how a dr. can seem to tell you how your OWN child is doing when they aren't the one changing their diapers and seeing how they are at home.
Avatar f tn m on a very strict nutritional program and typically eat two (6 ounce) servings of meat (chicken breast or eye of round) and 1-2 whey protein shakes per day. Different things I've read says that meat is to be limited to 5 ounces per day and no whey. Does anyone have any information on how our protein levels are reached with these limitations? I cannot eat nuts and one can only eat so many egg whites in a day.
Avatar f tn Could a blueish/purple ring around both nipples and breast tenderness be an indication of cancer. There is no possibility of pregnancy, but the breast have also gotten fuller and this blueish ring gets bright and then fades. It has been here for a couple of weeks.
Avatar f tn However, for Genistein (going back to that topic) there is at least one report on ovarian cancer where a woman took it (part of a fermented soy drink) and was able to stabalize her CA-125 (even though chemo wasn't working for her anymore) and after quite a few months she went back on chemo with positive results (possibly because she chemosensitized her cancer). There is a link to that report on pubmed via my article on my site (link on my profile page). So...

Avatar m tn New studies have however raised questions over whether the ingredients in soy might increase the risk of breast cancer in some women, affect brain function in men and lead to hidden developmental ab-normalities in infants. The core of their concerns rests with the chemical makeup of soy: in addition to all the nutrients and protein, soy contains a natural chemical that mimics estrogen, the female hormone. Some studies in animals show that this chemical can alter sexual development.
