Slo niacin vs flush free niacin

Common Questions and Answers about Slo niacin vs flush free niacin

niaspan

1063764 tn?1272821064 Most flush-free niacin isn't very strong, especially niacinamide, which probably does nothing. So if you're going to try large doses, you might have to endure the flush. You also should do this in conjunction with your physician or a naturopath, as too much niacin can be dangerous. It can also affect your levels of other B vitamins. I've heard of it being used for anxiety, and it does calm the heart. It energizes those who need it, so I don't know about it making you tired.
Avatar m tn I'm 52 and have never have had high liver enzymes. Took 500 mg of Slo Niacin for about a month between 12/15/13 and 1/15/14 and ALT went from 36 to 60, AST from 39 to 63, and GGT from about low 30's to 110!! based on blood testing done 1/15/14. Previous normal liver bloodwork from chemistry profile was from physical back in late July of 2013. Only a social drinker (few beers on weekend).
519736 tn?1253986826 Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep. he has missed the last 2 days of work.
Avatar m tn One way to lower your cholesterol, an raise the good cholesterol is to take Red Yeast Rice, and Slo- Niacin. I had stopped taking the Lipitor, 80mg a day, and did not tell my doctor. My lab results came back better than ever, my HDL had never been above 40 and it was 46. I had tried everything prior to this and this is what works for me, so if you are interested, I get them both at Walgreens and Usually you can find the Red Yeast Rice on sale.
Avatar f tn I want to take benadryl to orevent a niacin flush, but im worried the niacin wont work.
Avatar n tn I took 500mg of niacin the reagular kind not the no flush kind It did cause me to have a niacin flush (which is typical)...it has never caused me trouble with mainia only made me flush wich eased anxiety and caused me to be tired afterwards...It might affect others diffently though. Avatar m tn By contrast, slow-release niacin preparations reduce the hot-flush effect by releasing niacin over an extended period of 12 hours or longer. Most of these preparations are unsafe and I do not recommend them. “No-flush” niacin preparations, such as inositol hexaniacinate and nicotinamide, are widely sold as niacin alternatives that do not cause hot flushes. In my experience, however, they simply do not work. In other words, no flush, no effect.
Avatar n tn Background: I have engaged a Niacin regimen to cut cholesterol (vs. using statin drugs) because Niacin also raises HDL and cuts LPa and triglycerides (while statins only cut LDL). I have been on this regimen since 2003 and the effect on my cholesterol/triglycerides and LPa has been more than as hoped for. Just as with statin drugs, it is necessary to get regular blood tests (ideally every 6 months) to ensure there is no liver damage.
Avatar f tn Odd, but I've never really felt the "flush" so many people describe when I take my prescription Niacin (500 mg). I think I might have felt a very mild flush the very first time I took it, but its been completely unnoticeable for me since then. Maybe I've got a bad batch or something.
Avatar m tn There is also niacin (look for non flush niacin) and L-carnitine. And of course look at your diet. You can check out what to eat and avoid on this article from Authority Nutrition: A Paleo Diet Meal Plan and Menu That Can Save Your Life. After a bad diet, hypothyroidism is the second most common cause of elevated cholesterol. Genetics is under 1% of cases. It's worth trying out some natural methods first. Statins have a list of side effects a mile long. *** "...
Avatar n tn I CAN NO LONGER AFFORD NIASPAN, CAN I TAKE NIACIN OVER THE COUNTER OR VITAMIN B3 WILL IT HELP THE SAME I WAS TAKING 500MG AT BEDTIME
Avatar f tn Don't know if this will help or not... My latest blood tests says my Thyroid levels are now perfect. I take 65mg Iron pills 2X/day, 250mg Niacin 3X/day. I also take a few other pills where liver and kidney functions must be watched. So far everything is working good! My Iron is still a bit low but we're waiting on the next blood test in three months before we adjust that again. I take Niacin to lower my cholesterol.
Avatar m tn Having Chromium and Niacin listed as separate ingredients would not be the same as Chromium Picolinate. Separately, (Niacin would be niacin and Chromium would be Chromium plus one of the chelators). It can get very confusing, but with all of that said, per the National Institute of Health "...given the limited data on chromium absorption in humans, it is not clear which forms are best to take.
Avatar m tn I am using Broomday once in the morning and Prednisolone 4 drops per day for the eye. I also take 1000 mg of slo niacin, 20 mg of zocor, 2400 mg fish oil, 2000 units of vitamin D, 2 baby aspirins and a multi vitamin. FYI my blood pressure has risen since the surgery. It was always in the normal range and now it has been 160/100, 140/100 and yesterday 1/9/12 it was 158/68. Have not had a fever and have a good appetite.
Avatar f tn Niacin in most people causes the face to flush/blush. No flush Niacin is readily available OTC. A word of caution, however, Niacin is a B3 and B3's are known to elevate blood sugars. Test your bs often and on a regular basis.
Avatar f tn m eating I will take a few bites and then start to feel super bloated and can not continue eating. Then my face will flush and become very hot. Recently I have also become nauseated when this happens. I'm currently 16+3, my blood pressure is completely normal and all previous labs have been perfect. Any ideas?
Avatar m tn valve replacement 2001, redid bypasses. I was on 40mg Lipitor and 500mg no-flush niacin for a number of years with moderate sucess. I subscribe to the Cleveland Clinic Heart Newsletter. In the July 2007 issue there was suggestion that 1,500mg niacin was a good statin supplement. Starting in July 2007 I followed this suggestion, taking 1,500mg slow-release niacin with the Lipitor. I have biannual blood tests.
1495437 tn?1288798915 ll get a slight flush, like s mild sunburn. Before you take the Niacin, spend the day drinking decaf green tea/any tea, take some tumeric (which has amazing antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties) avoid sugar! and drink plants of water/take a good multivitamin (trader joes makes a good one!) Honestly Niacin has helped me clear up my KP and my acne, and has made it loads better, as well as reducing spiderveins. You really need to take it responsibly though.
Avatar n tn need help. i have been on vytorin for 4 years and on routine blood tests, my cpk has been in the 500-700 range for all 4 years (2 blood draws a year). I am asymptomatic. This past Jan, i added "flush free niacin" to my morning meds/supplements, and in July i noted my cpk was 1000. Still asymptomatic. In the past, I stopped working out for a couple of weeks and stopped statins for 2 weeks, and when rechecked, the CPK's were still in the 700 range.
Avatar f tn Anyone tried niacin B3 therapy, or know of any success stories with natural treatments for schizo-affective disorder?

Avatar n tn Hiya, Chris. - I got hold of some nitro and saw a big drop in SBP and DBP. Same with Imdur. - the first time I took arginine, I saw a modest drop in BP. - but there is a study that shows increased **death** in MI patients taking arginine - another study in PAD showed less NO synthesis after longterm usage, while short term use usually shows increased NO - how are you defining "fluid free"? - is niacin flushing due to NO?
Avatar m tn Could this be a residual effect of a slo-niacin I took in late 12/13-early 1/14? Thought it might be the culprit but if it were the niacin, I'd think things would be back to normal by now. 3. What other type things can a biopsy show that the vast array of bloodtest and ultrasound wouldn't show? They did a bunch of blood tests I've never heard of before. 4. How accurate is biopsy? Couldn't the needle pick up tissue in an area not inflammed?
Avatar f tn Sounds like it is time for a more detailed workup. You need to have a Free T4 and Free T3 test done with the TSH. Hypothyroidism can affect many areas of the body. It might even be a good idea to ask to have the antibody testing done for Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroid disease. I have never heard of niacin affecting the body in a bad way especially pertaining to the liver and thyroid.
