Avatar n tn Are you taking Red Yeast Rice to take the place of the statin drugs? Sounds like you also need some Magnesium to help with the muscle spasms and pain. MSM is also recommended for the pain. I hope this info is helpful.
Avatar f tn The dose can be increased to 80mg if necessary. cpk is an emzyme found in both skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle. If it was normal then u do not have rhabdomylosis, which is the side effect of simvastatin which your doctor was looking for. He has done the correct test and the result was negative. Return to doctor for further investigation of these muscle aches.
Avatar m tn Also, unusually, after sitting or being in bed, I get regularly, involuntary muscle spasms mostly affecting the stomach and eqivalent area in the back. There is no pain, just annoying sensation and the wanting to stretch all the limbs. Medication is usual heart stuff following 2008 attack, I don't think Simvastatin is to blame and at the moment Tramadol to help at night.

Avatar f tn Research shows that 61 out of every 1000 patients on 80mg of simvastatin develop muscle problems. I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.
Avatar f tn Patients were put on a cholesterol-lowering diet and given one of the medications. After 18 weeks, patients given simvastatin had significantly lower total cholesterol, lower LDL, lower triglycerides, and higher HDL cholesterol levels than those who took pravastatin. The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin).

Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
428155 tn?1203688894 in New Zealand), which my GP had prescribed me 2 years beforehand to control my cholesterol level. I stopped simvastatin and all fibrillations have disappeared. As I was taking simvastatin, I was in fibrillation 17% of the time; 1 month after I stopped simvastatin, the level was down to 0%. I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
Avatar m tn ) For the past 20 years, I have avoided NSAIDs, acetaminophens, other pain relievers and muscle relaxants because of their adverse effects to liver and kidneys (personally more significant because my dad had kidney disease). Since cannabidiol inhibits the liver's production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. That would allow me to try CBD, which appears to have minimal side-effects.
2085202 tn?1373199740 Hello all. I'm a 26 year old male and have a cholesterol problem with high tryglycerides. I understand I NEED to be on something but i've stopped taking my simvastatin as the longer i've been on it i'm noticing my arms are becoming pathetically frail , weak and tiny. My wrists seemed to have shrunk to the point of where I can cuff my hand over them to a scary point. At first I thought I had a disease of some kind but tests have shown everything is fine.

I also have sleep apnea and use a cpap machine. I have fibromyalgia and a hiatnal hernia which I take Nexium for. Do you have any information on L-arginine helping coronary spasms. Avatar n tn My two kids and I started having muscles spasms almost at the same time a year ago, and we still have them. I have gone to several doctors and they could not find anything wrong with me. Now they are hesistating to give me referals, they may think everything is on my head, but it that's the case my head can not make my kids have the spasms, fatige and joint and muscle pain besides other minor symptoms. I really wish that everything was in my head and forget about it.

Avatar f tn potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, vitamin B complex, or vitamins B1, B3, or B6 and Vitamin D. Generally deficiencies of any of the above can cause muscle twitching and spasms in localized or generalized areas of the body. Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body. Stress, alcohol, caffeine and fatigue all cause similar symptoms. Hence if you take alcohol or coffee then cut this down.
1396846 tn?1332459510 It almost always starts with a day or so of muscle twitches in that area and by the 3rd day the whole area is sore and tight feeling. This lasts a few days then fades away. I haven't had that happen for a few weeks now, but just this evening I've been getting a cramping muscle twitch in my left ribs area. I have no medicine for any of these experiences, so I'm praying this just goes away on it's own without too much pain.
Avatar f tn On top of other problems, I have recently been having muscle spasms in my hands, legs and feet. The hand problems occur when I've driving, holding up the newspaper, writing a letter. My hand gnarls up into an ugly claw, my fingers spazzing painfully. The problem with my legs and feet usually occurs after I've been asleep. I will be awakened with muscle spasms in the ball of my feet or the calves of my legs or sometimes the deep muscles on the inside of my thighs.
Avatar n tn Hi there and welcome!!! The best best thing I have found for muscle spasms and cramping is magnesium. My dr told me to go to the Vitamin Shoppe and get a product called Calm....it is powder form of magnesium that tastes great and works fabulous. I mix mine in hot water at night and it helps me to relax and sleep well. I even have my daughter taking it now! lol I got it in lemon raspberry flavor....they have other flavors. I found them online until I realized we have one here in town.
788554 tn?1257693252 OK, so I understand what causes the pin and needles and tingling, and numbness, fatigue in ms. But what causes the muscle aches, stiffness and spasms? I know it comes with the territory but does anyone understand what is the cause of it?
