Avatar n tn Beta blockers like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors like benazepril have been been shown to be of value in patients with congestive heart failure as well as for hypertension. Simvastatin is of value for patients with both diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor and changes can be made to minimize the side effects.
Avatar f tn My dog was recently put on Benazapril for her kidney issues. Some of the side effects say it can cause kidney issues. Anyone have any idea what I should be watching for to differentiate the Benazapril side effects from her kidney failure symptoms? Anyone have experience with it? One of the side effects is also anorexia, and she is not interested in food today. I can't tell if this is because of the new meds or her illness.
1394098 tn?1385960134 Thank you for the encouragement. I thought the end would be easier but it's a good thing that I feel this way now instead of in the middle of tx. It would have been hard to continue. With the end in sight it makes it easier to tolerate. And congrats on ending your tx. I'm so glad you are feeling better. I don't get on the forum very often but I appreciate all the wisdom and encouragement I've gotten from ppl here.
Avatar n tn -( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril. Called the dr, he told me to stop the valsartan, don't take anything for 2 days and then back on the benazepril and see him next week.
Avatar n tn His pupils were fixed and dilated, his gait was extremely wobbly and he seemed to navigate in bursts of energy. I discontinued the med and the head posture returned to normal over three days. Gait took a day or so longer and pupils started to react after five days but remain sluggish. Drug induced myasthenia gravis is described rarely in the literature. My very experienced vet says he has never seen it. Has anyone else?
Avatar m tn Even more important is the phosphorus content of food. Phosphorus must be severely restricted, so make yourself aware of what is in the foods you are feeding. You didn't mention phosphorus in the bloodwork - has this test been done? If so, what is the reading?
Avatar f tn Benazepril may also be beneficial for severe kidney disease. Another medication that may help for either stage of feline kidney disease is Azodyl, which is available by prescription. The dose for the above listed Chinese Herbal Medications are as follows for an average sized cat: for teapills the dose would be: 4 teapills orally three times daily. The dose for capsules or regular pills is one capsule or tablet three times daily.
Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
Avatar m tn While living in the US I was using Benazepril 40 mg, but now I'm living in Ecuador and that med is not available here not as lotensin on benazepril. What can I sustitute it with?
Avatar f tn I believe this is one of several questions you've posted on the same subject of post tx side effects. You've had many honest reponses, most if not all positive. I'm beginning to wonder if you're looking for a reason NOT to start treatment. With your significant scarring, this alone is a good reason to begin treatment - and many here can share the downfall and significant sx of progressing to cirrhosis.
Avatar n tn what is the half life of oxycodone in cats? I've heard it works well for pain in cats. I'm trying to get more information on what may help my 12 year old cat. I'd like to have my questions in order before I pay my/her vet?

I had an echo stress test (speed increases every two minutes) and at 6 minutes my blood pressure starting falling so the test was stopped and the doctor said sometimes with blood pressure medicine that happens. Avatar m tn amlodipine, Victrelis (boceprevir) Boceprevir may increase the blood levels and effects of amLODIPine. This can increase the risk of serious side effects such as irregular heart rhythm, fluid retention, swelling, heart failure, and excessively low blood pressure. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications.
Avatar f tn do you mean your kitty is eating the vita green grass uncontrollably?............like how much? and this is a cat grass I believe isn't it??? If so I can't see there being a problem, kitty is obviously needing something nutrient wise that it is supplying.....I have one that eats alot of lawn grass when outside, its good for them, sometimes with him its helps him to vomit and get rid of a hairball thats accumulated in his stomach.....so no don't limit her digestion of the cat grass..
Avatar f tn Do you know what the source of your cats pain is? Human meds especially pain have to be given in precise doses (vet should help with this) Cats and dogs can be unintentialy overdosed. They all react differently. Fentanyl is an extremely strong opiate! I have been on it personally. I fell asleep standing up! I believe in some cases they also use Morphine. I have to look up metacam must be new.
1761287 tn?1313824787 All of the medications prescribed by your vet were totally appropriate and recommended for the conditions for which they were prescribed. Cerenia is used often in cats and is totally safe if used correctly. Use of Cerenia in cats is called "extra label". Pfizer, the company that manufactures Cerenia, has assured me that it will be changing the label to include cats eventually.
Avatar f tn Atopica(cyclosporine) is prescribed OFF label for cats...usually to treat Feline Granuloma Comlpex. the side effects are less than that of steroids.esp for long term use. . http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_cyclosporine.html I am very sorry to read your dear kitty has this disease, it sounds like it going to be a tough road to control the symptoms and give him some relief...the write up I did find for information is for dogs, but obviously cats can also have.
874521 tn?1424116797 I don't feel comfortable repeating the injection of Depo more often than every three months. I explained this to a client years ago and gave them other options, but due to inability to give pills by mouth, they chose the injection and the patient developed diabetes soon later. What hypoallergenic food are you using? Some work better than others. Eosinophilic granuloma complex is a recurring problem that is related to allergies.
