My psychiatrist practices geriatric psychiatry and only uses this med for patients who have stopped eating since it makes most people want to eat. I thought serzone was taken off the market for causing liver disease, although the generic is still available. Maybe it's back. An alternative to serzone is wellbutrin.

Well it depends what you mean by "dangerous". Many medications have black box warnings against a certain side effect because it occured in clinical studies before they were approved and doctors need to watch for it. That doesn't mean that particular medication shouldn't be taken. Some of the medications I take or have taken have warnings of various kind.

But my understanding from reliable sources is that it is in the same class as Serzone which was pulled off the market due to liver toxicity. Just because Trazadone is still out there I don't believe it is completely safe for everyone. If Serzone is in the same class and pulled off the market, wouldn't you be cautious with the others in the group and drug companies have a tendency at times to withold data.

The only cause I thought later that might have been was I was taking generic serzone (since they took the name brand off the market for liver damage), but I'm not sure if the medicine I tooke was why it happened. It was said to be unusual to have one on my liver by a doctor, but not harmful. It is a collection of blood vessels.

No matter what do not stop taking any beta blockers or meds that the heart doc has given you suddenly because you could be in for a world of hurt here, It is common if you are not weaned off of the meds and stop suddenly that you will experience a little ditty called re bound which means that your symtoms will magnify X3 or more and you don't want to go thru that believe me....

After stopping serzone for anxiety, my husband had a reaction of severe insomnia after trying Lexapro for 3 days. His doctor suggested bipolar and put him on Zyprexa but is weaning him down gradually. He's on 7.5 mg currently. What side effects can we expect if he doesn't really have bipolar (which is our opinion) from this medication? We know the most common ones, but what if he is not truly bipolar? I can't wait for him to get off of it, but he is sleeping soundly again.

I did take Prozac, 20 mg and Serzone before it was removed from the market- for depression, but that was when it was mostly depression and I did not notice the anxiety portion. When I went back on Prozac a year ago after 3 days I had such anxiety that I almost ended up in the er. That is why the doc said to start slow at 10 mg. I started at 5mg. I think that the first day, taking 10mg, I had a serotoniun surge, so I cut back to 5.

I am BP1, but have hit clinical depression. I think they put me on a AD because of this and I'm pregnant and they don't want to put me on too high of a dose of Lamictal. Lamictal, I've been on it on and off for a couple yrs. It never really helped much with depression for me. So maybe all I needed all along was a AD. I've taken as high of a dose as 400mg of lamictal when not pregnant. It helps with the mania for short periods of time, but then I always have to up my dose.

Paxil should be taken off the market no question!!! I don't agree with the answer you got from the doctor at all. I weened off paxil over a years time and am now on day 49 paxil free. Not realizing the strange things that have happened to me over the past year was from the paxil withdrawal I didn't really investigate on line until I completely stopped on January 21, 2008 and by February 12, 2008 the proverbial s## hit the fan.

there are a lot of people that pay big bucks to getoff methadone in a softer ez way ...I wish I new one as I have said many times b/4 its not so much the withdrawal that makes methadone so hard to get off of but the post withdrawal....this is not an ez drug to break free from you can use short acting opiates to get past the initial withdrawal but its the next few months that they will not help with.....

The one that worked OK for me was serzone but that was pulled from the market due to liver damage. It relaxed me and helped with anxiety issues. I had heard about the liver issues before it was pulled from the market so I started to wean off it myself. I was only on it 6 months so it wasn't too bad, then I started to see a counselor and started cognitive behavior therapy.

I am glad I am off the thyroid meds and feel so much better but why did he take me off and does it sound like I will need to go back on. By the way he is running a blood test on me next week.

Hi shoebox186 There must be a very good reason for your oncologist to have taken you off Tamoxifen, the side effects depend much on each person some don't ever get a side effect and others can not even walk or move without horrible pain. Your breast cancer was a grade 1, right breast, hormone sensitive and apparently a lymph node involvement, my cancer was the same but no lymph node involvement.

Ultram was bad news for me after Darvocet was taken off the market. It is not a narcotic pain reliever but if you take a SSRI antidepressant it can cause a horrible reaction called seratonin syndrome. It is not true that they have been taken off the market. Don't believe everything you hear. If you are talking about the recall of certain lots of Tylenol PM gel caps, that recall was over a year ago. If the meds were purchased at a retail outlet those lots would have been removed from the shelves. If I might ask, what does this have to do with hepatitis c?

I took both antibiotics and Nexium (twice a day) for much of treatment and am now SVR. As to the ADs listed, many here have taken them and are also SVR. Off the treatment drugs viral load can fluctuate up and down, sometimes wildly, so it's really almost impossible to say what if any outside factors -- such as drugs -- causes that. It could simply be a waxing and waning of the immune system. No one knows, certainly not the author of that article.

Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor, amitryptiline, Paxil, trazadone, Serzone...all but MAOIs. They either had no effect or the averse effects outweighed the positive (zoloft kept me afloat by making me numb to all feelings altogether). Hello, I am taking a very low dose of nefazodone because I'm prone to having serious side effects from most meds, especially anti-depressants. When I increased to 75 mg and then 100 mg, I started to have horrible acid reflux. I'm currently taking Dexilant in combination with Carafate and, as needed Zantac, to try to control the reflux. I'm still experiencing serious discomfort until several hours after taking nefazodone.
