Common Questions and Answers about Seborrheic dermatitis moisturizer

seborrheic-dermatitis

Avatar n tn Hi I was diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis on my face about a week ago... I've been using a Cetaphil cleanser and the new Promiseb cream to treat it. I was wondering if I should also be using a moisturizer for my skin. I don't know much about fungal infections but I heard they can feed on moisturizers which only making the symptoms worse. So if anyone can help can you tell me if using a moisturizer would help? And if so what moisturizer do you recommend for SD?
Avatar f tn Hello, You need to get checked this dry skin for any seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. It is usually caused by overgrowth of Malassezia furfur. This skin disease commonly affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm and humid climates and is aggravated by sweating and humidity.
Avatar m tn The range by Eucerin is really good, they make a Redness relief cleanser and moisturizer. Lutsine also make a really effective cleanser and moisturizer for dry skin. Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is also good for dry cracked peeling skin. All these products are available online or in stores. If the problem persists see your doctor for an evaluation of your skin condition.
Avatar m tn I originally had a small, dry patch of skin in the middle of my chin from not moisturizing (I know this because anytime I stop using moisturizer, I get dry patches that resemble seborrhic dermatitis, but upon application of moisturizer, it goes away- so I doubt it is a yeast overgrowth). If anything, I guess it was certain areas of my skin becoming dependent on moisturizer after applying it daily for years in certain locations (cheeks, forehead, chin). Dr.
Avatar n tn The dry rash that you have on your penis can be due to seborrheic dermatitis. The main treatment of seborrheic dermatitis is corticosteroids and shampoos containing ciclopiroxolamine, ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione(like in antidandruff shampoos). In cases where steroids are not working, low doses of Accutane (Isotretinoin) are helpful. But it should be taken only after prescription from a dermatologist.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed w/ both perioral and seborrheic dermatitis and I am trying to find a facial cleanser and moisturizer that reduces flare-ups. In the past I was battling acne and had luck w/ neutrogena acne wash; my problem is that a lot of cleansers have sodium lauryl sulfate (or derivatives) of it including the neutrogena. Do you know of cleansers/moisturizers that are effective in controlling all three skin conditions?
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms and pictures it looks like perioral dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis on the forehead. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face. My sincere advice is to consult a dermatologist and get it evaluated. Diagnosis has to be confirmed first.
Avatar m tn Hello, The symptoms can be due to seborrheic dermatitis or contact dermatitis. The mainstay of management is liberal use of moisturizers after washing with luke warm water. Soap should be used minimally. Moisturizers should be reapplied liberally during the day.You can also use a topical cortisone (steroid) cream or ointment like dermacort(hydrocortisone). Adding a humidifier to the central heating system of your home or using a humidifier also helps.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed by my dermatologist as having Seborrheic Dermatitis however all medications that I have tried have not been working so my doctor has precribed quite a strong medication called Azapress (a generic medication for Imuran). Thus, my questions are as follows: 1. Will this disease ever go away? 2. What is the success rate for this medication to deal with Seborrheic Dermatitis and what are other options?
Avatar f tn Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood. Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.

Avatar n tn I developed seborrheic dermatitis on my face that is mild and controlled by creams a couple of weeks after a sexual encounter with a woman of unknown hiv status. It is now several years later and SD is still with me off and on and I never had it before the encounter and I am experiencing no other symptoms. I have also had anxiety ever since the encounter and have gained 20lbs. When during the course of HIV infection when does SD usually occur?
Avatar n tn If the irritation persists then pls get it evaluated from a dermatologist.Eczema and seborrheic dermatitis have to be ruled out. I hope that helps.Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
1798727 tn?1315739792 Hello, It looks like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia – a yeast, which produces toxic substances that infect and irate the skin. The disease is neither contagious nor related with diet but it may be aggravated by other illness like Psychological stress, immune compromised patients, neurological diseases like Parkinsonism and stroke.
Avatar n tn When I saw the dermatologist she did not want to treat me for this area instead she wanted to first treat me for this other skin condition that she felt was seborrheic dermatitis. For the last seven years, onset was during my pregnacy with my twins, I have had a slightly reddend area that has somewhat of a hyper exfoliation to it. I have managed to keep this area not a problem by being extremely careful of what I use on my face.

Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases.
