Avatar n tn I do agree that one differential for your case is a skin infection caused by tinea versicolor. The tinea versicolor infection may present as white patches on the body. Now that you have mentioned white yellow spots in the cheeks, one thing to also consider is seborrheic dermatitis. Do these lesions itch? Have you been experiening any oiliness in the skin and scalp?
Avatar n tn Hello, The symptoms are suggestive of tinea versicolor. Tinea versicolor is caused by a fungus that lives in the skin of almost all adults. Factors that can cause the fungus to become more visible include high humidity and immune or hormone abnormalities. Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines. Selenium sulphide lotion can be applied for around 10-15 minutes, rinsed off and re-applied daily for about a week.
Avatar m tn It very well could be the yeast fungus Tinea versicolor, given that you are a bodybuilder that most likely sweats and works out in humid gyms. It effects light or dark colored skin types, can appear in light patches, pink blotches or darker patches. Only a dermatologist can truly determine if it is a yeast fungus, by scraping a sample of the skin or using a special light device.

Avatar n tn At first i thought it might be tinea versicolor because it was kind of blotchy and does glow in the blacklight. but i have tried antifungal creams and shampoos to no avail. it doesnt itch or anything. i dont know if it glows in the blacklight because it is flaking skin or because of a fungus? i can scratch off little pieces of skin. what could it be? its not red, its slightly lighter than my regular color even when i tan, i think maybe just because it is dead skin coming off?
Avatar f tn Hello, One possibility for these blotches on the arms can be tinea versicolor. Tinea versicolor is a fungal infection caused by commensal yeasts in hot and humid conditions. They may be reddish brown, slightly scaly patches or ugly, depigmented areas that will not tan, especially in suntanned skin. Selenium sulphide lotion can be applied for around 10-15 minutes, rinsed off and re-applied daily for about a week. Severe cases may need oral antifungals.
Avatar n tn I have had a rash for several years on my face (across nose and cheeks) as well as on my chest (neckline). A doctor told me that it was tinea versicolor. In looking at the images on the net of tinea, I do have spots of it but it is not what the rash on my chest and face is. The rest of the rash is not circular and does not respond to any of the creams or medications given to me. This rash is just a general redness.
Avatar n tn Pinkish or tan colored spots on the skin have fungal infections like tinea versicolor as differentials. Other differentials will be a contact dermatitis ,vitiligo and pityriasis alba. The last two may not fit your case. Vitiligo is a condition which manifests as a stark white and well demarcated skin patch . Pityriasis alba usually affects the face and may also appear as light skin patches. Have this assessed by a physician.
Avatar m tn Hello, Without examination, I cannot confirm a diagnosis but it can be contact dermatitis, sweat dermatitis, heat rash or tinea versicolor. Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines.
Avatar n tn At this point, there is really no effective medical therapy for hair loss. If your hair loss is associated with tinea and seborrheic dermatitis then the underlying disorders need to be addressed first. Hair loss also has a genetic basis. Male or female pattern baldness may follow a hereditary pattern. Treatment of the tinea and seborrheic dermatitis may help resolve the hair loss. Creams may not be sufficient for scalp infections. You may need oral antifungal therapy.
Avatar m tn More likely to be tinea versicolor caused by yeast infection.infection. Antifungals help. Do consult doc.
Avatar f tn Hi White spots of skin over the face in children may be due to tinea versicolor which is a fungal infection or pityriasis alba which is a benign skin condition. As part of the differential, vitiligo should also be considered. I suggest that you continue with the sunscreen as this in many ways offer skin protection. Bring your child to a dermatologist to have this white patches assessed. I do not think these white patches are caused by the sun. Are these itchy? Do these bumps scale?
Avatar n tn Differentials for scalp problems may include seborrheic dermatitis , tinea capitis and discoid lupus. These are just differentials and these may need to be excluded especially when this has been present for quite sometime.

Avatar f tn The spots seem to slowly grow and they started out small and red and have grown to an abnormal shape and size. They have also changed in color to look more like brown marks. Almost like a birthmark? They don't really itch or irritate me. I haven't worried about it, as I thought perhaps they would go away. Any idea what it could be? Should I worry?
Avatar n tn At first it was a bit red but it developed into dark brownish blackish color now and i just do not know what to do. I am really worried about it and i want to know what can it be. I have no clue if it is related to my PCOS condition but i really need to know at least the possible causes for this. Thanks a lot in advanced!
Avatar n tn Two possibilities are there for such depigementation.Firstly,it can be due to tinea versicolor. Tinea versicolor is caused by a fungus that lives in the skin of almost all adults. Factors that can cause the fungus to become more visible include high humidity and immune or hormone abnormalities.Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines. Second possibility is of vitiligo. It is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed.
