Common Questions and Answers about Seborrheic dermatitis and symptoms

seborrheic-dermatitis

Avatar f tn I have never had any issues with my skin and I have read that seborrheic dermatitis is strongly related to HIV, i also have red eyes and frequent migraines. When do HIV patients start developing seborrheic dermatitis? What other symptoms are developed with it? When performing my last test alcohol was not completely dry on my finger + the final reading was before the 20 minutes mark set by the manufacturer.
Avatar n tn I have seen 3 doctors who tell me I am at no risk. Then one said I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp (same size as the nodes). Ive been under stress for the past 2 weeks worrying im infected (alot of the symptoms apply from what i've read online). The only thing I have done out of normal life is masturbated into toilet paper a few times about 2-4 weeks ago, and about a month ago cut my ankle playing street hockey. What stage of HIV does seborrheic dermatitis come?
Avatar n tn if someone has seborrheic dermatitis around his lips and chin, does it means he has HIV, or is seborrheic dermatitis a normal skin condition that affect many people.
Avatar m tn Hello, It looks like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia – a yeast, which produces toxic substances that infect and irate the skin. The disease is neither contagious nor related with diet but it may be aggravated by other illness like Psychological stress, immune compromised patients, neurological diseases like Parkinsonism and stroke.
Avatar n tn It is now several years later and SD is still with me off and on and I never had it before the encounter and I am experiencing no other symptoms. I have also had anxiety ever since the encounter and have gained 20lbs. When during the course of HIV infection when does SD usually occur? My dermatologist says my SD is very mild and that it does not seem worriesome but is really starting to stress me out because I never had it before.
Avatar n tn Differentials for scalp problems may include seborrheic dermatitis , tinea capitis and discoid lupus. These are just differentials and these may need to be excluded especially when this has been present for quite sometime.
Avatar f tn Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood. Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.
Avatar f tn But I saw the symptoms of HIV. There is Seborrheic Dermatitis which is dandruff.
Avatar m tn And it may be a bit of an odd question. But I have recently been diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis and have been getting alot of anxiety as it is HIV related. If anyone can please comment if Seborrheic Dermatitis is a common skin disease or if it is predominately related to HIV? I just had a few questions to see if my possible exposures could be related to HIV? Possible exposure 1: Protected sex with 10+ women? (Just wanted to ask what the chances are of getting HIV?
Avatar m tn s a red dot underneath, and if I use a drying soap, it looks like a crater later. I also get scabs and sore spots on my scalp, which a dermatologist told me was seborrheic dermatitis. Is this the same thing? Would it have spread to my face for some reason? Pictures: http://s577.photobucket.
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be contact dermatitis, hives, sweat dermatitis or heat rash. Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical zinc oxide cream like Desitin or calamine are very helpful. Application of mild steroid cream like dermacort also helps.
Avatar m tn For the last four years I feel itching, scaling and flakes on my scalp. Now only i came to know that this is Seborrheic Dermatitis. Because of this I lost almost 40% of my hairs. I learnt that this is a temporary hair loss. I tried many shampoo's like selsun, scalpe etc. And also i have been intaking Glacex(B-complex vit) tablets long time. Still My problem is not resolved. Last four year i consulted many doctors (Skin specialists).
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been getting electrolysis on my face and have recently been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the Seborrheic dermatitis may have been caused by the damaging of the hair follicles. I have very mild seb derm but it flares up about four days after an electrolysis session on my face. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I also hear fermented foods like beer, wine, cheeses, vinegar, mushrooms and olives are developers of itchy skin and can effect dermatitis of the skin.
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be dermatitis skin, seborrheic dermatitis or fibrous papule of the nose. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face. People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Later, pityrosporum yeast grows excessively in the sebum, sometime along with bacteria, making the dermatitis more persistent.
Avatar m tn I have been looking online and I think it is Seborrheic Dermatitis. I am on an Immunosuppresant (6MP) and I understand that a weakened immune system could be a factor in the development of SD. Does anyone think this could be SD before I call my Doctor and try and tell him what I think it is and request treatment! Many thanks. [IMG]http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c326/bevldavies/Face.
Avatar f tn Hi You might be suffering from scalp (seborrheic) dermatitis or scalp eczema or scalp psoriasis. The exact diagnosis depends on clinical examination. Seborrheic dermatitis presents as dry skin on the scalp, which flakes off (dandruff). The skin on the face, behind the ears, eyelids, nose and chest may also be affected. Symptoms of scalp eczema may include greasy yellowish scales that may turn flake off along intensely itchy and inflamed red scalp.
Avatar m tn But what worries me is that, I have developed seborrheic dermatitis which is mild on the scalp, nose, and sometimes appears in the armpits. It does not appear if I use head and shoulders shampoo on the body a couple of times a week. If I don't use the shampoo, it comes back. Does this mean my immune system is compromised? Other than the seborrheic dermatitis I have not experienced any other symptoms matching with HIV. Can I look forward to a negative result when I test?
Avatar m tn some 3 months after this encounter I got seborrheic dermatitis on my face around my nose (I have had seborrheic dermatitis on my skull my whole life and it stopped at one point). Should I be worried that the seborrheic dermatitis appeared around that time ? I haven't had any other symptoms (no weight loss - I actually gained weight, no swollen lymph nodes). I also had a sore throat later the same summer. Another question is that while having intercourse ones ...
Avatar n tn s guaranteed to stop seborrheic dermatitis forever, but treatments can control its signs and symptoms. In case of recurrent seborrheic dermatitis, topical and oral antifungals, immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are useful. In addition some lifestyle measures like using antidandruff shampoos daily, avoiding harsh soaps and detergents, wearing cotton clothes and covering the itchy area with a dressing to prevent itching may also help. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
