But what worries me is that, I have developed seborrheic dermatitis which is mild on the scalp, nose, and sometimes appears in the armpits. It does not appear if I use head and shoulders shampoo on the body a couple of times a week. If I don't use the shampoo, it comes back. Does this mean my immune system is compromised? Other than the seborrheic dermatitis I have not experienced any other symptoms matching with HIV.
Can I look forward to a negative result when I test?
To rule out contact dermatitis you will have to take an allergy test. Psoriasis is an immune system disorder but not an autoimmune disease. I also read that one of the causes for seborrheic dermatitis is a weak immune system or immune defiancy.
My question is if i have a weak immune system or immune defiancy will this make my hiv test not conclusive ?
Do i need to test out again at 6 months ?
I have been looking online and I think it is Seborrheic Dermatitis. I am on an Immunosuppresant (6MP) and I understand that a weakened immune system could be a factor in the development of SD. Does anyone think this could be SD before I call my Doctor and try and tell him what I think it is and request treatment! Many thanks.

It looks like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is believed to be an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia – a yeast, which produces toxic substances that infect and irate the skin. The disease is neither contagious nor related with diet but it may be aggravated by other illness like Psychological stress, immune compromised patients, neurological diseases like Parkinsonism and stroke.
Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood.
Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.
I found a herd cream in my country and i am home free. I realise that the cause of SD is due to low immune system in our body and mainly related to the liver. So if you keep taking the....nazoles, its going to be difficult to solve your problem as the root of the cos is due to the weak liver. That is why it keeps coming back and its good during summer but bad again after sunset. Sorry this is traditional Chinese's medicine. Sorry if i offend anyone, especially the doctor.
It is now several years later and SD is still with me off and on and I never had it before the encounter and I am experiencing no other symptoms. I have also had anxiety ever since the encounter and have gained 20lbs.
When during the course of HIV infection when does SD usually occur? My dermatologist says my SD is very mild and that it does not seem worriesome but is really starting to stress me out because I never had it before.

From the symptoms and pictures it looks like perioral dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis on the forehead. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky,dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face.
My sincere advice is to consult a dermatologist and get it evaluated. Diagnosis has to be confirmed first.
According to my doctor and what Ive studied, HSV such as any viral infection eventually takes its toll on your immune system. As with HSV, if you have a good immune system, it will fight off herpes outbreaks, but the only bad thing is that yoyr immune system is so busy being a hero fighting off herpes, it commonly fails to fight off other pathogens, like Candida, which causes Sabaceous D.

Thanks for the prompt response, the symptoms that I am seeing looks like SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS. Can hsv1 cause this. When I checked online it looks like week immune system may cause this. Could you pls help me with the answer for this.

I have been getting electrolysis on my face and have recently been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the Seborrheic dermatitis may have been caused by the damaging of the hair follicles. I have very mild seb derm but it flares up about four days after an electrolysis session on my face.

Zinc Shampoo for seborrheic dermatitis along with Kerastase Nutritive Bain Oleo-Relax Smoothing Shampoo/conditioner. I also take Viviscal Hair Growth Supplements for the thinning caused by seb-Derm.
But most of all I have reduced my sugar intake to minimize yeast production. My reason for the above regimen is because I became cautious about long term use of all the topical steroid creams that eventually thin or damage the layers of skin.
I have never had any issues with my skin and I have read that seborrheic dermatitis is strongly related to HIV, i also have red eyes and frequent migraines.

The most likely differential for this is a severe case of seborrheic dermatitis. The cause for seborrheic dermatitis is yet unknown and there is no definite form of medical therapy as this condition may recur. Others have associated yeast infections with it. While some have implicated stress and environmental factors. You may seek second opinion for your condition.

I was told by my dermo that I had Seborrheic dermatitis. It was dry itchy and scaly under my beard, in the nose folds, ears and eyebrows. I was given desonate gel to use for 2 weeks and things calmed down. However now I just have a redness itchy forehead. I put moisture cream o it and it doesnt really help. Is this still donsidered Seborrheic dermatitis? And would the desonate gel still be the right rx to use?

Other differentials will be seborrheic dermatitis and keratosis pilaris. Seborrheic dermatitis may present with a greasy yellow scale while keratosis pilaris may present with a rough sandpapery feel over the skin. I would suggest that skin scrapings of the affected skin be obtained and microscopically evaluated. This will help ascertain if a fungal or bacterial infection is present.
