My father ( 80yrs with Alzheimer's/mild Parkinson's symptoms) has been a relatively "low" does of the risperdal for some time now. The nursing staff claim that it keeps him from being agitated. It however, leaves him in a catatonic state. He cannot speak and he sits and nods off with his pupils like pinholes. They claim this is for his "safety" and that of the nursing staff.
What double blind studies have been done for Ambrotose and Alzheimer's patients/
His caregivers claim that it is for his own safety and theirs as he becomes agitated periodically. They have not described to me in any detail how this agitation manifests itself. I find this hard to accept as he is confined to a wheel chair and is relatively weak as his muscles have not been put to any use in several years. He still has a firm handshake however. My concern with the use of Risperdal comes not only from recent studies but from my experience of him since being on it.
So granny was put into a mental hospital (for her own safety as she used to wander off), and the rest of the family then went berserk because would not accept that anything was wrong with my granny.
I have had exactly the same situation with my father and mother. My mother and my siblings initially were in denial and it has taken them a few years to come to terms that my father is now "different".

I have been doing research on brain Lesions. One article said alzheimer's patients can have them. I have had 4 MRI's I have brain lesions on my brain. Each MRI the lesions have not changed. The MS dr does not want to diagnose me. so I'm trying to find out more.
I feel at such a loss in trying to help my Mother. I've gone back to Neurologist and am awaiting his advise, but he doesn't appear to be emphathetic to this issue. Her GP defers to the neurologist. My 81 yr old Mother in middle to late stage Alzheimer's. She is not on any anti-anxiety med except for Paxil which was prescribed about a month ago. She gets aggitated during the day at times and especially sundowners time.

I would ask the prescriber to reconsider. I do not know the effect of any of the drugs you mention but it takes time to find the right combination of drugs. Maybe another combination would help her better? Depression is common when having alzheimer's. Some patients who have alzheimer's knows that they are forgetting things and that something affects their short-term memory but they can't remember exactly what it is.
Not exactly what the article said, so let's tamp down the fear a bit. First of all, it didn't say it increases the onset by 25 years. It says Alzheimer's now appears to start 25 years before any signs are noted. No relation there to covid. What has been widely reported by anyone who has been keeping up with the news, some people suffer long-haul covid, and those are the people these docs are concerned about.
For safety focus on the methadone. I assume that is for a chronic pain condition?
Methadone can be tricky. If the patient ever passes out and can not be awakened, it might be a methadone overdose and patient needs the antidote. (I always wished I had a life alert alarm that would alert me if someone stopped breathing so I could quickly react and save them.)
There are new ways of treating certain types of chronic pain, especially if patient has physically recovered but still feels pain.
There are also a variety of natural supplements that are said to help Alzheimer's patients. One of these is turmeric. You might want to research the others. Since the outlook for the disease is so dismal, trying some natural remedies won't harm and might help.
