688450 tn?1259468734 Hi there, yes there can be a danger to the baby if you are taking a poorly made fish oil supplement. You are going to have to really be careful as to what brand you decide to take. There are a lot of really great brands out there as well as some really not so good ones. Just make sure that they are very reputable and investigate how their oil is produced and where the fish is harvested from and whether or not it comes from wild or farm raised fish like salmon for example.
Avatar f tn Hi to eevryone! Your cardiologist may not know it, but flax oil hardly converts to omega-3's; only 2% at best of the omega-3 linolenic acid component is converted to the useful omega-3 fats DHA and EPA, and that is IF there are no omega-6 fats competing for uptake. Other than that, the linolenic acid in flax oil has no known use in the body, and flax oil obviously has shortcomings by containing a relatively high amount of inflammatory omega-6 linoleic acid.

Avatar n tn I'm 19, I've recently started to take Omega-3 supplements. When i took them, after a while, it felt as if my chest and throat tightened a little, but it wasn't difficult to breathe at all. Also, when i woke up this morning it feels like something is crawling in my throat. Am I allergic? Should I keep taking these supplements?
374593 tn?1257879950 Other types of fish are fine in limited amounts. You can eat up to 12 ounces (about two meals) of other varied fish and shellfish per week If you are taking Fish oils for omega 3, I would buy mercury free. One good brand is: http://www.babyhopes.com/omega3.html I do not recommend taking higher than 3 tablets per day of Pregnancy Plus Omega3. I would be careful of taking supplements without your doctor's supervision.
1258062 tn?1299842031 I think you need to ask your doctor before taking any omega 3. I have heard that it helps when you are trying to conceive but I am not sure about when you are already pregnant or how much.
Avatar f tn Recent eye exam revealed moderately dry eyes (I have been having a lot of discomfort) so I have been trying out different drops. But I have also tried adding omega 3 supplement. I first tried Ocuvite 50 plus which doesn't seem to have enough omegas to make any difference. I then tried Thera tears nutrition which has large amounts and actually made a difference! .....Bad news... It also makes me itchy and gives me diarrhea! Now what?
403156 tn?1290150018 I have capsules that are 1200mg. of fish oil per pill and my doc wants me to take 3 a day. To hit the depression the dose has to be higher than a normal person would take. I buy them at Iherb.com, Dr. Michael Murray's Fish Oil capsules, he makes the high dose capsules with all the right amounts of the other things my doc told me to get. You can buy 180 capsules for $13.87 but it's pharmacutical grade, meaning it will improve depression and mood.
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal pill one times a day. And It has everything I need But No omega 3 an I heard to take it 2nd or 3rd trimester. Just don't remember what was said.
Avatar f tn The omega-3 fatty acids should be in your prenatal.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
518994 tn?1212242047 There are various vitamin-mineral supplements available that contain this or you could just add a little (~1/2 teaspoon) extra virgin olive oil to your dogs meals. Olive oil is a great source of Omega-3 Fatty acids. The omega-3's are the same for people and pets. If you give too much the result would be a bit of gas and/or loose stool.
1655526 tn?1330655629 ve read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time. Now I don't dare take it even after my ablation for SVT because I don't want the other arrythmias.
1192727 tn?1282735542 DHA is essential for the proper functioning of our brains as adults, and for the development of our nervous system and visual abilities during the first 6 months of life. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids are part of a healthy diet that helps lower risk of heart disease. Our bodies naturally produce small amounts of DHA, but we must get the amounts we need from our diet or supplements. Most people in the Western world do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids in their diet.
Avatar f tn According to my vet this is supposed to help with inflammation and allergies. It supposedly helps raise good cholesterol.I certainly hope I'll get to see some results.I'm told it takes about 2 to 3 months to see any results.I guess I'll have to wait for his next blood tests to see.
Avatar f tn The mayo clinic says catfish is safe. There are healthier fish that are higher in omega-3s but catfish is still a safe fish to eat. I've read omega-3s are great for brain development so I try to eat as much sockeye salmon as possible while pregnant...which is only about once a week since it's so expensive...plus I've been feeding it to my daughter since she was 6 months, she's two now and loves fish. http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar m tn These include taking extra amounts of omega-3 fatty acids (1 tablespoon of cod liver oil) and omega-6 fatty acids (300 mg of GLA), along with 400 IU of vitamin E as mixed tocopherols each day.
Avatar m tn 1 of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3's help keep the inflammatory pump in balance. A suspected culprit of today's high rate of inflammatory diseases, many of our modern day food choices are rich in omega-6 fatty acids and stingy in omega-3's. In fact, experts estimate that the typical American diet contains 14 - 25 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3's. ยท Omega-6's are found in certain seeds and nuts, and the oils extracted from them.
Avatar m tn Ooh stay away from those, they can induce serious anxiety and hypomania. If you mean "diet pills" What they are supposed to do is up your metabolism, but there is no actually proof that they do that, except for folks who have less then 20lbs.I see all those commercials with "special" herbs or supplements. I actually called on company and they refused to tell me exactly what was in it. Like herbs they are not FDA approved.
1708767 tn?1308358723 Is Omega-3 900 mg (one per day) okay to take with Hep C? The report says that people with Hep C should be careful about taking vitamins, does this include fish oil?
