Back in March 2019, I started to take Abilify to treat PTSD, but then in May 2019 I immediately switched to Risperidone since I didn't find the Abilify to be helpful and it made me extremely bored. I took Risperidone (which I was told could affect blood sugar levels) for a little over a month and stopped abruptly because I realized it wasn't helping and it made me constipated.

Little history, so I was diagnosed with ptsd, bipolar, and anxiety with agoraphobia. My pcp gave me risperidone 2mg and hydroyzine 25mg (3 times daily or as needed). I told my psych I didn't want the risperidone because of already existing obesity issues and I told her the hydroy was just drying out my nose and making me feel like I had a sinus infection all the time. So she gives me ativan 0.5mg (one a day), Prazosin 2 ( 1 @ night).

But soon after I started taking Risperidone (within 1-2 weeks), I started to feel this extremely scared/anxious feeling in my heart.

My question is on tapering risperidone how long does one need to taper risperidone from a dose of 1mg to 0.5mg in days or weeks?.

i am afrraid this is not the risperidone, but it's called spastic colon (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). it just happened that they occurred by chance simultaneously. when you have anxiety you get spastic colon and especially with the change of weather, i.e. seasonal change from summer to fall say. I know it's devastating. They reckon it afflicts up to 20% of the world's population.

my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?

How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.

wow , that's some medication , over the last 10 years i've been on quiet a lot too but for the first 5 year's or so it was mainly anti-depressants and the odd anti psychotic , but they had no odea what they were treating back then, it's only been the last few years i got diagnosed properly ,but they are still not 100% sure about the Bi polar / with psychotic features or Schizoaffective , which is what they call it for now , i don't think there's a whole lot of difference

I am really happy today.Yesterday I took my last dose of Risperidone which I had been taking since the past four months and which had been tapered off by my Pdoc .I never liked this med which had numerous side effects of which I experienced some,thankfully not the worst ones.I will now only have to take my mood stabilizer which I have been taking for a number of years.

She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.

I am in full blown withdrawal symptoms from stopping risperidone with anxiety and my psychiatrist is back 5 days later.I had to stop because of side effects at 1 mg.What should I do?

Hi ive been taking risperidone for 3 weeks now for social anxiety it seems to be working a little but in extreamly nervous now sence i been taking it is the medecine suppose to make me nervous im on 1 mg are u going through this please let me know.

Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.

Hi there. Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic drug with certain side effects. These are sedation, dysphoria, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, muscle stiffness, muscle pain, constipation, photosensitivity and alopecia. The fall could also lead to local tissue spasm and tightness in the surrounding muscles. She needs to be seen by an orthopaedician to rule out this as an effect of injury ad also check for an missed fractures.

So we reverted to our 2nd doctor and stayed with him ever since, who cancelled the Zoloft and changed to [Anafranil (clomipramine 25Mg), stellazin (trifluoperazine 1Mg), benzo (0.75 Mg) and risperidone (1MG)]. I became stable for 3 years and passed my exams and graduated. So it all looks OK now and I am an OCD man with mild depression (much less than the 1st onset) and started to look for a job.

My daughter just started taking risperidone 2 days ago and is experiencing the trouble swallowing side effect and not opening her mouth very wide when she talks and having trouble speaking. Is this normal? Will it wear off? Its really scaring me.

I am in full blown withdrawal from risperidone and my psychiatrist is out of town.I got side effects(involuntary movements) so had to quit.My doc will be back 4 days from now.Any suggestions.

My Pdoc had suggested an extremely slow tapering of risperidone over 10-12 weeks but I tapered it over 6 weeks and only had minimal withdrawl symptoms.I am yet to go and see him.I am stable on tegretol 1000 mg with no side effects.Hope it stays good.

My four year old grandchild/fosterchild has been to the doctor and now take meds for ADHD. Frist was riddelen that did not work at all. New medication is Risperidone. No change has been noticed. This child before meds was pooping and peeing on her bedroom floor and even after meds. Im at my end and dont understand this kind of behavior.

The psychiatrist has now put Glen (16) ASD on prozac (20ml liquid) once a day alongside his 1mg twice a day risperidone (was on 2mg twice daily but had to cut it down due to Glen becoming constipated). Glen's anxiety is still sky high on the risperidone, been on it nearly 8 weeks so she thought she would try prozac as well. Do you think the prozac will help my son?

She has been on risperidone for many years. Recently we have tried other drugs and her symptoms of aggression have increased. She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep). She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP!

Please do not stop Risperidone cold turkey.Please remain at the dose he is taking for next 2 weeks and see his Psychiatrist and she will taper it down or replace it with a medication called Clozaril if it is Tardive.Most likely it could be a temporary movement disorder called Akithisia which will go away once Risdone is stopped.Stopping Risperidone cold turkey can provoke an awful withdrawal syndrome or return of original symptoms so wait till you see his new doc.
