Hi ive been taking risperidone for 3 weeks now for social anxiety it seems to be working a little but in extreamly nervous now sence i been taking it is the medecine suppose to make me nervous im on 1 mg are u going through this please let me know.

She did have terrible agitation and confusion a few times per week. They had to try two different medications. Risperidone on a very low dose. It did not quite work. Then Depakote. After 7 days on Depakote it affected her swallowing much worse than when she had her stroke. But she could have just has a stroke relapse. They took her off the Depakote to see if the swallowing would come back and it has not (been off it for 9 days). CAT scans did not show a new stroke, either.

My question is on tapering risperidone how long does one need to taper risperidone from a dose of 1mg to 0.5mg in days or weeks?.

i am afrraid this is not the risperidone, but it's called spastic colon (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). it just happened that they occurred by chance simultaneously. when you have anxiety you get spastic colon and especially with the change of weather, i.e. seasonal change from summer to fall say. I know it's devastating. They reckon it afflicts up to 20% of the world's population.

my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?

How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.

wow , that's some medication , over the last 10 years i've been on quiet a lot too but for the first 5 year's or so it was mainly anti-depressants and the odd anti psychotic , but they had no odea what they were treating back then, it's only been the last few years i got diagnosed properly ,but they are still not 100% sure about the Bi polar / with psychotic features or Schizoaffective , which is what they call it for now , i don't think there's a whole lot of difference

I am really happy today.Yesterday I took my last dose of Risperidone which I had been taking since the past four months and which had been tapered off by my Pdoc .I never liked this med which had numerous side effects of which I experienced some,thankfully not the worst ones.I will now only have to take my mood stabilizer which I have been taking for a number of years.

She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.

I am in full blown withdrawal symptoms from stopping risperidone with anxiety and my psychiatrist is back 5 days later.I had to stop because of side effects at 1 mg.What should I do?

Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.

i see, that from now on she can no longer live on her own. Hallucinations at first, now regulated with Risperidone, psychiatrist thinks its dementia. She keeps her upkeeing as much as possible but unable to perform daily tasks. dressing, cooking, making coffee..cleaning, I help her in fact i do it. Im her only child. and im exhausted. she is very tired all the time low energy as she is a tiny person in size. i remind her about food. She takes antidepressant too which help.

My father had dementia and we put him in a nursing home. 6 months later he died. I was there everyday(twice a day) for him and I could see the difference in him after they increased the Risperdal. He must have suffered a stroke and the Doctor kept feeding him the Meds for app. 5 or 6 days until I finally told him something is wrong with him. 3 weeks later he was gone. He never recovered and he was a "strong" man.

My daughter just started taking risperidone 2 days ago and is experiencing the trouble swallowing side effect and not opening her mouth very wide when she talks and having trouble speaking. Is this normal? Will it wear off? Its really scaring me.

My Pdoc had suggested an extremely slow tapering of risperidone over 10-12 weeks but I tapered it over 6 weeks and only had minimal withdrawl symptoms.I am yet to go and see him.I am stable on tegretol 1000 mg with no side effects.Hope it stays good.

My four year old grandchild/fosterchild has been to the doctor and now take meds for ADHD. Frist was riddelen that did not work at all. New medication is Risperidone. No change has been noticed. This child before meds was pooping and peeing on her bedroom floor and even after meds. Im at my end and dont understand this kind of behavior.

The psychiatrist has now put Glen (16) ASD on prozac (20ml liquid) once a day alongside his 1mg twice a day risperidone (was on 2mg twice daily but had to cut it down due to Glen becoming constipated). Glen's anxiety is still sky high on the risperidone, been on it nearly 8 weeks so she thought she would try prozac as well. Do you think the prozac will help my son?

She has been on risperidone for many years. Recently we have tried other drugs and her symptoms of aggression have increased. She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep). She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. Please do not stop Risperidone cold turkey.Please remain at the dose he is taking for next 2 weeks and see his Psychiatrist and she will taper it down or replace it with a medication called Clozaril if it is Tardive.Most likely it could be a temporary movement disorder called Akithisia which will go away once Risdone is stopped.Stopping Risperidone cold turkey can provoke an awful withdrawal syndrome or return of original symptoms so wait till you see his new doc.
