Avatar n tn I suggest you ask your personal physician to refer you to an Occupational Therapy department or a rehabilitation institute that has a drivers rehab course. In Missouri I found them very helpful especially after strokes and injuries.
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for all your suggestions and support. It really makes you feel better to realize you're not alone. Cincinnati Eye Institute put me in touch with a group called "the Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired." Their purpose is to keep people working who have a visual impairment, or find people with visual impairments jobs. Based on need, they may pay for all or part of the surgery. I may take them up on the finding employment part of their service as well.

Avatar m tn Dr Hayden, you suggested Tecnis IOL which confirmed my thoughts. When I went to The Tecnis site to find a doctor, I was suprised that there were none in greater San Diego. I then tried greater Los Angles, Chicago, Atlanta, and New Orleans. None has a doctor using Tecnis. I'm now very concerned about Tecnis; any thoughts? If that answer is satisifactory,do you recommend the one piece or acrylic and why?

Avatar m tn Askins, who was picked up Thursday in a stolen car, is a reputed member of the street gang Death Over Mercy, according to the Sentinel. In 2013, he was charged as an adult at 16 with attempted murder in connection with a drive-by shooting targeting a member of the rival Gorilla gang. The charges were eventually dropped, but long prison sentences were handed down to his two co-defendants in the case." The above situation goes back 2 years before this most recent attack.
Avatar n tn I know there are specialists at the Chiari Institute in New York. Also, do you know where in the United States where there are specialists or neurosurgeons who have done MANY Chiari 1 surgeries? I live in Illinois and we would be willing to travel out of state for surgery if necessary. If we can't go to New York, I'd like to know where great reputable specialists/neurosurgeons are, whether in Illinois or another state in the U.S. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Dear Dr. Boyer Thanks very much for answering my question. I really appreciate your expert advice. Yes, my father did have an external lumbar drain prior to the Codman valve. He responded well with lumbar drain. Father occasionally complains of headache after surgery . I read that over drainage will cause headache. If I may ask you another question, what test would you recommend prior to turning down the pressure to make sure there is no over drainage at current pressure setting ?
Avatar n tn I had a vitrectomy to peel an epiretinal membrane in 2006, performed by a local (Chicago) retinal specialist (who was named one of the top retinal surgeons in America by Castle-Connolly). The surgery left me with a larger image size in my affected eye, which had not been present before surgery and caused many problems. I subsequently consulted three very respected local retinal specialists for additional opinions.
Avatar m tn I would get a consultation with an expert aortic surgeon. This isn't something that comes up every day. You've posted on the peer support forum, and you need an expert medical consultation. Were I in your situation, I would be planning to travel to an aortic center to see a surgeon with demonstrated expertise aortic arch surgery.
Avatar f tn I went to the NS today found out she does many decompression surgeries a week so I guess you can consider her a specialist. I have many questions of this forum after this visit. We spoke about the chiari 0 I have and she said we could do the surgery but she said that usually people who have less than 9mm herniation don't respond well to the surgery.
