Avatar m tn My father had a stroke in July and at the time he didn't qualify for therapy... he was in a semi vegetative state & required a peg tube. He was discharged to a skilled nursing home & his prognosis was not great. We started the process of applying for Medicaid for long term care which he was approved for. However, my father was a fighter and began to recover quickly!
Avatar f tn internet, friends, references, staff and other informative resources that can help you decide. Nursing homes really just take care of the patient with little or no rehab. Do you have a HealthSouth in your area? In bigger cities HealthSouth has a good name. I wish I would have done the leg work when my husband had a hemorrhagic stroke in July. I live in a small city and the rehab center was a nightmare.
Avatar m tn It depends, if the stroke is stabilized, he may be shifted to a nursing home for long term care. 10% of stroke patients require care in a nursing home or other long-term facility. For skilled nursing facility, stroke survivors require daily skilled nursing or rehabilitation services that can be provided only on an inpatient basis. So, he may have been shifted. Regards.
Avatar m tn her time at the rehab is covered under the hippa law which means that the doctors/staff agh the rehab CAN NOT i repeat CAN NOT tell anyone that is not on her treatment team any info about her unless she signs releases they can be in a lot of trouble if they reported her with out her breaking any law did she give consent to speak to the board of nursing about her condition?
Avatar f tn The rehab I wanted to get into is full for the next two months and all the ones around us are booked as well Maybe it's fate? My husband and I talked all day today and we have decided to move. To get me away from this town. We are moving into a house as soon as we find one about an hour away. Now I know that no matter where we go I take myself as I am with me. Sick and still an addict. But I know moving away will give me a new beginning.
Avatar f tn so my grandma is at this nursing home in huntington health and rehab. a worker there is giving out information about the resident (my grandmother) to outsiders; suchs as; people not working there, her kids, other people. this is going around the school about how my grandmother acts at a nursing home. and i want this to stop. is this illegal to give out information? tell me please. and if you get it from a website, type the web site in.
Avatar m tn I'm so sorry to hear of your predicament. No doubt that's an impossible situation. I have a slightly different take than the other poster who replied above. While I agree that a nursing home setting isn't the most optimal choice for ANYONE, not ALL nursing homes are crummy, and sometimes it's just necessary, for the safety of all involved. I've actually worked in a few very very nice facilities where the residents were VERY well cared for and loved by the staff.
Avatar n tn And, if you have insurance or can find a way to afford it, get your husband out of a skilled nursing facility and into an acute or post-acute care rehab facility, preferably one that specializes in brain injuries. My husband had a severe stroke in August and is currently in a neurorehab. He was paralyzed on the right side, lost his ability to speak intelligbly, had no sense of balance, couldn't swallow, short-term memory loss, and had many cognitive issues.
Avatar f tn As the presidential campaign unfolds, the differences in approaches to Medicare by President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney have taken center stage. But what is getting far less scrutiny: Romney's plans for Medicaid. He would convert the health care program for the poor, disabled and elderly into a block grant to the states and sharply reduce funding over time.
14183940 tn?1433536902 Hey Cj!! I didn't realize you were so close, I'm from Amarillo, Texas. I know here in Tx, many rehab centers offer payment plans for people without ins, you would need to locate one near you and see if maybe that is an option for you. Take care!!
Avatar m tn Can I do alternative rehab treatment instead of surgery(which is a micro diskectomy)? Can I get Rehab or chiropractic care to restore my right leg function? Also,is it possible to have an MRI report to be too over exaggerated?
Avatar f tn she wants to go home and the doctors want her to go to a nursing facility for a week. My sister would be giving her 24 hour care. How dangerous is this condition and should she have 24 nursing care?
Avatar f tn The use of E-33 for diabetic wound care is not acceptable nursing home practice.
Avatar m tn It is now November and he is still in a nursing home in Long Term Care unit and not receiving ANY rehab. The reason the home gives is that he has "plateaued". People I have spoken to have said that he should still be receiving therapy. I realize that he is now on medicaid, (he lost his job, home, everything due to this stroke) and is being treated like a second class citizen!! He is getting very depressed. Thank you!
Avatar m tn It's a good thing to consider because there will be someone who will look after for your loved ones 24 hours a day who are having this kind of disease. In fact, some families consider a nursing home for their aging loved ones who mostly facing Alzheimer also. They believe that any nursing home can accommodate and will take care of their loved ones, as well as to protect them and make them feel valued and loved.
Avatar f tn I probably just need outpt rehab, but like today, I feel I need inpatient rehab. I ache all over after being clean a month. My kids can see the difference in me because before I was so complacent, now I'm just irritable when I'm here, and gone a lot trying to keep up with this nursing recovery program. I'm stressed out trying to make these deadlines. And to have to depend on my husband to carry his end of it.
Avatar f tn My mother is residing in a nursing home in a wheelchair. She has little rehab in there, because she's too tired to keep at it. She does try, but the rehab doesn't last too long because of her tiredness. She is immobilized on her left side, and can't balance herself to go on a commode.
Avatar m tn The rehab facility team and doctor has told us she will never improve and have stopped attempts at any rehab, suggesting we make arrangements for long term care. Should we look for other avenues of care? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Thank you. I called the counselor to meet early tonight. I don't think it is healthy that my parents are driving around my house at 2 in the morning standing in my front yard calling me a lowlife and alcoholic. I need to recover for me and I have never had the best relationship with my parents since they don't have any respect for me and take credit for everything good in my life and credit for fixing everything wrong.
Avatar n tn I posted last night asking if anyone could share their good and bad rehab experiences...why was that deleted? I got an email that there were 3 respnses- If anyone responded please repost! Unless there is some reason we can't share rehab experiences??
Avatar f tn Isn't there some web site you can check this out on or maybe in her union book. There must some information that came with her nursing license, like all the do's and don'ts. Or maybe an 1-800 number you can call anomysley (spelling) and ask these questions.
4484425 tn?1384228334 What are everyones plans for after baby? Working? Stay at home mom? School? I'm staying on maternity leave until my boys go back to school in September then I'll be going back to work a the childcare I've been at since I was 16. I'm thinking about taking some online classes because I want a job were I'll make more and be able to contribute more. I'm just not sure if now is the right time to start school again.
Avatar f tn We can give you all the advise you want, but you have to decide what you will do. Rehab is good but like you said no one to watch your baby. as far as nursing, I know I can't go back to nursing but everyone is different. We care about you and want the best for you but as long as you keep those pills you will take them. You should go out with your friend, I know you don't feel like it but you will feel better the more you move around.
