728313 tn?1260459629 My uncle was not the norm. He was diagnosed in late onset. They consider if you are past the age of 45 years of age it is late onset, but I believe that he had the illness a lot longer, and just "self medicated" until it didn't work anymore. They both did not suffer with any neurological symptoms, and my grandmother had a good MRI. My uncle didn't, and that was only because of several accidents that he had suffered. (He had head trauma and old scar tissue from that).
Avatar f tn I was wondering if someone could tell me which is better to examine someone looking for any cause of psychotic episodes -- MRI or CT scan? Also, what conditions might show up on either exam as the source of the problem? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?
Avatar f tn I noticed little red spots (not raised) on my torso, about 10 of them, at 8 weeks and a few other random ARS symptoms (very common ones) - Do ARS symptoms arise as late as 8 weeks, especially the "rash"? Also can HIV be transmitted through skin that has sloughed off from a non-open Herpes sore to non mucous membrane skin? It seems unlikely but I am curious.
Avatar f tn I'm honestly not sure as to an exact answer to your question but I believe clinical studies showed years ago that what people used to term a "midlife crisis" was actually a later age onset of symptoms. Anyway, I've made a good recovery from schizoaffective which clinically is a step further than bipolar with psychotic features as in bipolar with psychotic features a person has delusions and hears voices during moodswings and in schizoaffective disorder its all the time.
Avatar f tn In females real psychotic disorders tend to appear later than in men, who are starting to get symptoms between adolescence and early adulthood. In psychotic disorder medication is a very good way to treat symptoms. Therapy is always a plus.
Avatar n tn The mean year for breast budding is 10.5 years, onset of pubic hair is 11.0 years, and the onset of menarche occurs after the peak growth velocity usually around 11.4 years with the mean age of menarche in the U.S. being 12.8 years. (Speroff 2005). Your daughter may still be falling within normal limits but if you are concerned, please see your pediatrician.
Avatar m tn I am a health professional who is peripherally familiar with chronic neurologic disease / rehab, and thus I know just enough about ALS to keep me extremely anxious about my symptoms. I could really use your help. I have had tiny little, very rare twitches in my calves and face for at least 2 years. Suddenly, out of the blue, one month ago I was ripped out of sleep with diffuse, intense fasciculations, mostly in my deltoids, triceps, calves, hamstrings, and quads.
Avatar m tn After two weeks of taking Zyprexa, she came out of the psychosis, and has had no psychotic symptoms since. Her thyroid level is now normal, and due to weight gain, and the desire of not wanting to take medication that potentially is not needed, we have decided to stop taking Zyprexa. After taking 20mg for almost one year, we have decreased to 10 mg. She has been on 10 mg now for about one month, with no signs of withdraw, or other psychotic feelings.
Avatar f tn Early onset Bipolar Disorder typically begins with depression and there may be many depressive episodes before an individual experiences a hypomanic or manic episode. Other symptoms commonly seen in individuals with early onset Bipolar Disorder include rapid cycling, mixed states, and psychotic features. There isn't a specific test an individual can be given in order to diagnose them with Bipolar Disorder.
198419 tn?1360242356 I have yet to read a news or research article that differentiates between late onset MS and late diagnosed MS. It seems that most generalize the two as if they are the same thing, but we know that there is a huge variability from individual to individual with respect to date of onset of symptoms versus date of diagnosis.
Avatar n tn 5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..
Avatar n tn While I anxiously await results, does anyone have thoughts as to whether such symptoms could start at 6.5 to 7 weeks or is that too late for ARS? Any thoughts to help pass the results waiting time would be appreciated.
723341 tn?1232338253 And I have schizoaffective disorder which may be a more extreme variant of bipolar with psychotic features (in schizoaffective disorder you are psychotic all the time, in bipolar with psychotic features its only during moodswings) from what I learned during testimony I conducted. People with bipolar usually have some mood episodes before the full onset. Its complex.
Avatar f tn ve notice recent hair shedding and read that Evening Primrose Oil can help but interacts with some anti-psychotic meds. I do not have a seizure disorder.
Avatar f tn Within FEP patients, decreases in cortisol and the cortisol/DHEAS ratio over time were directly related to the improvement in depression . . . negative . . . and psychotic symptoms . . . . Perceived stress significantly correlated with DHEAS . . . and the cortisol/DHEAS ratio . . . in controls, but not patients, possibly reflecting an impaired hormonal response to stress in FEP patients. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn All the anti-epileptic, anti-psychotic,tension, and migraine headache medicine doesn't do squat but raise my blood pressure. The doctors have pretty much told me that there isn't anything they can do for the New Onset Daily Headaches but try one thing after another. Obviously the opiates do give me relief, but they require more and more to do anything and doctors are leary to give you enough. From my research: http://tinyurl.
Avatar n tn It is now late July, and ive been having this symptoms intermittently since April. I have loss of appetite, excessive belching, bloating, dizzyness (mostly when i'm standing), fatigue, and headaches. I have been losing weight slowly, i think its due to the loss of appetite that i am experiencing. Avatar m tn While I'm sure that people with Schizophrenia may experience some of the symptoms you described, that doesn't mean that you have Schizophrenia. Those symptoms can also be caused by Severe Depression. What is your age? It is very, and I mean VERY rare for anyone to develope Schizophrenia after the age of about 20. Depression and Schizophrenia are two very different illnesses.
1965148 tn?1354978634 Hey Elinah, I have experienced two psychotic manic episodes after being put on antidepressants. They both lasted at least a week. It started out as a feeling of increased euphoria, racing thoughts, confidence boost, insomnia and impulsiveness. These symptoms progressed and got more intense as time went on, and after a few days my thoughts began to turn sinister. I started having hallucinations and hearing voices telling me to kill myself and others.
Avatar n tn There is a white substance where my gums meet my lower middle teeth (unless it is the gumb that is white). Not having the flu symptoms 2 to 4 weeks after possible infection, would that delay the onset of antibodies. How you one tell when someone turns positive after infection on one who does not have symptoms? I need some help!!
