Avatar n tn He was diagnosed with Major Depression with psychotic features. He has been on 20mg of Zyprexa, 100mg of Wellbutrin, 60 mg of Prozac for three years. Is this a normal course of treatment?
Avatar n tn PTSD involves depression. PTSD is a diagnosis, as is depression. Those with PTSD also have depression. I would say "No"...PSTD is NOT a symptom of depression. Sufferers will also experience isolation, anxiety, and in your particular case...vivid hallucinations, nightmares, and psychotic episodes. Perhaps you should talk with your healthcare provider and try an anti hallucenogenic (sp?) to help curb your visions.
Avatar f tn Melancholic depression is honestly just the same as Major Uni-polar depression. Just a different twist on the name. The treatment options are the same as with Uni-polar depression. If I recall correctly, Melancholic depression is just like major Depression but a bit less cronic and severe. It's just an acronim that Psychiatrist use to target the actual severity of the condition. Just pretty much the same as Major depression.
1965148 tn?1354978634 As others here have commented, a real psychotic episode, which is a very serious event, must occur in order for their to be a true 'bipolar I' diagnosis. The diagnostic 'bar' for labling someone as 'manic depressive' must be high, because of the risks of the medications that are needed to control this illness, among other factors.
642393 tn?1227032656 It is sometimes given as an add on medication for major depression. But it really is an anti-psychotic medicine for bipolar and schizophrenia, There are some 'big cautions' on the possible side effects of anit psychotic meds including abilify. If I were you, I would just stick with just an AD and find one that suits you. I don't see why in the past major depressive disorders were controlled well with just one AD .
3579868 tn?1348739509 With bipolar 1 you get full blown mania and major depression, with bipolar 2 you get hypomania and major depression. cyclothimia fluctuates between minor depression and hypomania. Bipolar nos is where they put you when you obviously show some symptoms of bipolar disorder but they do not know which classification to put you in. There is also schizoaffective disorder which can have some symptoms simmilar to bipolar disorder.
Avatar n tn When I was younger before my diagnosis I had similar psychotic features and I was treated for major depression with psychotic features. I was treated with anti depressants and anti pyschotics. Unfortunately the anti d's triggered rapid cycling and lithium was then added to the mix. If it helps I no longer hear voices, it stopped around age 20. Now during an episode I have classic bipolar features.
Avatar f tn I for one never had one. I was speaking to a social worker and he told me in my case it may because I have the support or maybe I have some sort of control that enables me to make it pass the days. He also seem surprise because I am not on meds. I told him they bring on any attacks and make them worst. So I just been going on a day to day basis.
Avatar f tn Bipolar has no aspects of psychosis. With bipolar with psychotic features, during a period of moodswings (mania, depression) a person has auditory hallucinations (hears voices) or visual hallucations or has delusions (perceives things that are not in reality). With schizoaffective disorder, a person can have hallucinations or delusions even when the mood is euthymic (normal).
222267 tn?1253302210 I am BP1 w frequent psychotic features. I dont know what is what. This whole situation feels like major BP depression but with a twist. I have seen my psychiatrist already and he has given me extra anti anxiety meds and anti-psychotic meds in case (which I have found under extreme stress, I hallucinate). I see my Psychologist next week to have a talk therapy session. I just feel I am in limbo and on the verge. My anxiety is through the roof.
408795 tn?1324935675 It only takes an outside event or force (such as a drug is this case) to trigger their depression. Since Major depression is a recurrent illness, it is not unusual that a person treating for 24 or 48 weeks would continue to experience depressive episodes post treatment. "Major Depression" is a the mood disorder that can be triggered by interferon and even more so peg-interferon. But no matter what the cause of Major Depression the treatment is still the same.
1336711 tn?1275725436 This is the most medication I have ever been on in the 17 years of diagnosis of BP with psychotic episodes and Major Clinical Depression. I feel like Im overdosed .There has to be better drugs at half the dose to be effective but my Dr says Im on the best for my diagnosis. I have a 2 year old and can hardly function to keep up with him.
Avatar n tn However, a spectrum view of bipolar disorder is becoming popular. For example, you can picture a line with unipolar depression (major depression only) at point A, and with full blown bipolar type I at the end of the line, point B. If a person has major depression only, then they will fall close to point A on the line.
Avatar f tn I am now 39 years old. I have been diagnosed over the years with Sjogrens, Hypothyroid, spondylosis/arthritis in upper thoracic spine, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis of the knees, sleep apnea and major depression. 1037594 tn?1258562179 I am 34 years old and always knew I had depression but did not realize until 2007, that I was in fact Bipolar with Major depression and anxiety? I have been on so many different medications and yet I have not achieved the results I was hoping for or expecting. I knew I would not be cured but thought that my life would improve and it has a little thanks to my meds, especially xanex! My question is how do you become interested in activities that you once enjoyed?
Avatar f tn This is my first post here so here's a little background... I've been dealing with major depression for quite a few years now. In fact, it's been bad enough that I'm considered disabled and I'm on Social Security Disabilty - and I'm only 34 yrs old. I've been on too many anti-depressants to count or remember, have done the whole ECT thing, etc; however, a few months ago I started taking Parnate and that seems to be really helping.
Avatar m tn psychotic depression can encompass a wide variety of symptoms. i treat people with "psychotic depressions" a lot. Depending on what symptoms people are experiencing, different medications will be used. People will often respond very quickly to antipsychotic meds (even within days). The deeper depressive symptoms may take longer to fully resolve but that does not mean you cannot get feeling much much better relatively quickly.
Avatar m tn I am suffering from OCD since 9 years and I had taken various types of SSRIs (prescribed by psychiatrists) during last four years I was on a high dose of Lavox with some psychotic drugs and and Clomaphranil. These drugs cause me to have a lot of sleep , I usually sleep about 12-14 hours a day. During these four years I had done nothing, I had not watched any movie,TV show not any game, sports and even had not participate in any type of social activity.
Avatar f tn There are indeed a number of studies indicating that fish oil can be quite beneficial in bipolar disorder, but one teeny word of warning, buried about 3/4 of the way down this article, in the segment headed "Side effects and warnings: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/patient-fishoil.html "There are rare reports of mania in patients with bipolar disorder or major depression.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm on quetiapine for major depression. It was added in by my p.doc ontop of first antidepressant (citalopram) which was at 60mgs daily and diazepam/temazepam. I was overwhelmed by panic and paralised by the whole depression thing. The first couple of days on (I think) 25mgs twice daily, I was completely zonked (but very calm!) after two days the tranquilised feeling left, but my sleep was restored for the first time in months and the days were better too.
1134609 tn?1269272200 s not a whole lot of mood swings involved; just depression. I have read, that even after completely cessation of nicotine, major depression is very prevalent. So, I've been through a few ADs, but most of them were the next generation (Celexa, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, etc..) and they all increased my cycling.
Avatar m tn Its also worth mentioning here that sometimes during this Non-Psychotic state I also do a lot of household work ( both outside and inside ) with enthusiasm although there is depression in my subconscious mind.
919239 tn?1269394658 My doctor is an expert on treatment resistant depression and she prescribes a low dose anti psychotic along with an anti depressant usually a SNRI I have taken zyprexa with effexor, I came off everything eventually giving up the anti psychotic first and at another time (now my second episode) cymbalta with Seroquel, though i am weaning the Seroquel now and i am down to 12.5 mg Are you just taking the one drug? ?
Avatar m tn I was wrongly told as a teenager I just had parent issues, when I had my son I was told I had post natal depression then treatment resistant severe depression. It was only after being hospitalized after my 3 rd child that I was correctly diagnosed with Bipolar 1 , rapid cycling. It turns out I'd had this since I was 13 yrs old and it deteriorated as I got older.
Avatar m tn Can antipsychotics worsen depression? I mean giving antipsychotics to a person who has no psychotic features ?
