Avatar f tn Do all people with bipolar or any other mental illnesses suffer from a breakdown? I for one never had one. I was speaking to a social worker and he told me in my case it may because I have the support or maybe I have some sort of control that enables me to make it pass the days. He also seem surprise because I am not on meds. I told him they bring on any attacks and make them worst. So I just been going on a day to day basis.
1351968 tn?1278205300 No bipolar disorder will not turn into schizophrenia if not treated, the two are totally different illnesses. However, the two can sometimes be mixed up when a doctor is initially trying to diagnose someone. Bipolar disorder is an illness where the chemical inbalance in someone's brain causes their moods to be more extreme than those without the disorder. It also causes the moods to shift between the extremes (that's the difference between bipolar disorder and unipolar depression).
Avatar m tn Abilify is an anti-psychotic med commonly used to treat psychotic illnesses such as bipolar disorder, schitzophrenia, etc. It is sometimes used as an adjunct treatment (in addition to another antidepressant) to treat clinical depression, alrthough I've honestly never heard of it being Rx'ed alone for depression. That doesn't mean it isn't done or that it won't help, I'm just telling you the common uses.
Avatar f tn It could also take some time to find the medication which is right for her because not every medication works the same and as effectively for every single person but chances are that one of them will work for her eventually. It could be bipolar disorder with psychotic features like ILADVOCATE said or some psychotic disorder since 120 conditions can have psychosis as a symptom.
Avatar f tn My bipolar husband has become extremely controlling. I read others' posts and it's like he's being described to a T, so I guess I'm not alone.
6894081 tn?1390747763 I'm from the uk. In uk we only have midwives.
Avatar f tn I have had only 1 mild paranoid event during mania that came years after my first recognized mania, so I obviously DO NOT understand psychotic features of BP at all. But my ex-husband has had many psychotic events. He has Bipolar Disorder w/ psychotic features. He has gone into psychosis many times, and is extremely paranoid. After reading the Bipolar Child I see that he has been bipolar his whole life, and has only been diagnosed 3 months ago.
Avatar f tn I hope you can find something useful here that you can discuss with your physician on your next visit. We all understand the pain and frustration involved with these illnesses and are here for you. Take care.
937868 tn?1570328281 The best hope you have is that the diagnoses aren't correct. ADD is often misdiagnosed, so make sure you get more than one opinion. Different people also perform different with this, so one would assume a high-performer who can adapt better to it will have a better chance of not needing medication.
Avatar m tn I live in the uk and i am trying to join either the police or the army and i was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience with this. Im not too convinced that i would have a chance at getting in but i would like to try.
Avatar n tn A person from my family went undiagnosed for many years despite strange behavior, only when she had a psychotic episode did she allow us to take her to a doctor and was diagnosed with paranoid disorder. The symptoms fit her "usual" symptoms (i.e. those she's had for years) - relatively coherent delusions of being disliked, plotted against, of her flat being bugged, someone stealing things when she's out.
Avatar f tn It sounds as though your Mom is having psychotic episodes. That doesn't mean she is "crazy", or will be diagnosed with schizophrenia, or other psychotic illness. Sometimes, certain medications can cause psychotic symptoms, or even effects of certain diseases (when a diabetic's sugar gets VERY high or very low, this can happen). What I am saying is this is definitely something she needs evaluated for.
765769 tn?1343534291 There could be a lot of different mental illnesses your friend suffers from. It's obvious she is having psychotic episodes, and may be dangerous to herself or others. Does she have any close family you could talk to? It really sounds like she needs intensive inpatient psychiatric care. She really needs to be thoroughly assessed. If you could help her to make that happen, that wouild be great.
Avatar f tn She prescribed me a anti-psychotic. I heard so many horrible things about this type of medication, like developing permanent neurological problems. I read these horrible stories about doctors prescibing it to infants, why would a baby need a anti-psychotic? I feel like they just give these medications to anyone without a proper diagnoses. I feel like the presription was inappropriate. This is the only doctor I can see because I have no insurance and she is the only state doctor available.
1714404 tn?1322878142 hi my girlfriend has hepatits c its in the early stages we are both very worried and scared i have spoken to my own doctor my girlfriend lives in the uk and im in australia im wanting to bring her here and get her proper treated is there any more information that would help us
1057889 tn?1299333395 They also had security escort me out as I was fired because I wrote I get psychotic under stress and my supervisor thought being psychotic automatically means your violent which him and my exboss are like two peas in a pod so I know she probably thinks that too which to me seems like more discrimination. I can't seem to get an attorney to contact me back however on the matter who is in my city to even give me a consultation.
Avatar m tn I have just read the success of a medical investigative team using vitamin B3 (niacin) to treat general anxiety disorder instead of the now widely criticised ansiolotics especially diazepams like Xanax. My doctors have been dismissive of B3 even for redution of cholesterol. I haven't tried them yet on this new finding.
551343 tn?1506830518 A day to honor the men and women of the united states Armed Forces who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of others. I would like to think of all OUR armed forces today too in the UK. Without them we would not be HERE supporting each other or living in a free society. God bless to them all.
273579 tn?1256655053 ve recently read articles/books written by Drs, that suggest that up to 30% of the population may actually be undiagnosed Hypothyriod, mis diagnosed instead with all sorts of other illnesses, Autistic spectrum disorders been one.... Fibromyalgia, & M.E. been amongst the others, It would depend on past history, any possible damage to the thyroid/neck.... My friends Son's GP took this very seriously, & is testing him this week...
4629663 tn?1357698594 Hi and welcome. Yes, illnesses, including the garden variety colds and flu, are definitely not good for MSers. They stimulate the immune system, and may also stimulate what's wrong with our central nervous systems in the process. That can mean worse ongoing symptoms or a new relapse. The big majority of MS doctors urge their patients to get flu shots because of this, though a few discourage it. We can't always help what we catch, but we can do our best to stay out of harm's way.
Avatar n tn Wow, may illnesses cause what you describe. Like Zodiacqueen said, without the tests there is no telling what his problem is. Try feeding him with a syringe or eye dropper. Cat milk, kitten formula, goat milk...these are all good sources of fat, protein, vitamins and minerals to boost his system. Force feed him with a syringe and keep him warm and comfortable. Make him drink water. Hydration is very important. Again, an eye dropper or a syringe can help you accomplish this task.
Avatar f tn That would not be a problem except that his father is a case of diagnosed borderline syndrome with frequent brief psychotic states who is not taking a therapy and is about every two years in psych. ward for acute prolonged psychotic episodes.my son is not aware of his mental problems and is completely noncritical about his father and is taking without questioning every idea his father is proposing on him.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
