1192491 tn?1265031829 I am aware of my triggers for depression, however, I still do not recognize my triggers for mania; it comes on so suddenly w/o warning. Are your episodes mixed w/mania and depression or two very distinct episodes? Do you have a delay of the depression once you have been thru the manic period? How long of a delay?
230948 tn?1235844329 Hi, I had a psychotic episode after being on fentanol pain patches for just a few weeks. I was hallucinating, having vivid dreams and felt really sedated. I use Lidoderm patches instead and don't have any side effects from it. I LOVE Lyrica and wouldn't give it up for nothing or anyone -- I would certainly challenge my dr before giving it up. I'm sorry your hubby left you and your children. Concentrate on getting better and if you and he work it out later then it was meant to be.
Avatar n tn 5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..
Avatar f tn This time her arms and hands froze. The episode lasts about 4 minutes, everything relaxes for a few minutes, and then it starts again. This time she had 3 full episodes and one small one. Her migraine and nausea has been constant for about a month. She takes Topamax and Indural. She also takes other medicines. Has anyone heard of anything like this? The doctors don't know what it is. One doctor in the ER said it was complicated migraines.
Avatar m tn ever since I had my psychotic episode my personality has changed. I used to be bubbly and outgoing and now im always depressed and never interact with others. Will my old personality ever come back?
5051252 tn?1362970368 What you are experiencing is in the class of neurological events called (loosely) a psychotic episode. I have them, too, but mine are very mild... I just see some shadows that aren't there sometimes. Please see your doctor about this as soon as possible, to rule out things like your brain not receiving enough oxygen, blood work to rule out any danger of diabetes or low blood counts, things of that sort.
1256303 tn?1291752568 For schizoaffective, you have to have the psychosis part (the part A criterion for schizophrenia) for at least 2 weeks without being in the middle of a mood episode. If you only ever have psychosis while in a mood episode, then it's probably bipolar with psychotic features. But it doesn't really matter from a treatment standpoint; you'll need an antipsychotic and maybe lithium/an anticonvulsant mood stabilizer as well to control the bipolar and the psychosis either way.
628714 tn?1268238196 t really anything I can do except try and relax when I am having an episode to calm myslef. Now that I am aware of what triggers these episodes I am able to calm myself and they only last about a day vs. when they were lasting weeks sometimes.
Avatar m tn Let's say i suffer from psychotic depression.I read it is treat with a combination of antipsychotic and triciyclic antidepressants.
Avatar f tn His doctor insists that the mental deterioration is a new symptom, but I am concerned it is more likely a drug interaction side effect. The use of anti-psychotic medications began about January 2008, when the patient (who had been taking Effexor, Paxil, and Xanax for mild depression, anxiety and insomnia) had a first-time ever episode of manic-type symptoms: racing thoughts, extreme insomnia, panic, and distorted thinking.
222267 tn?1253302210 I have been in many horrible depressive states, but none following mania. It makes no sense to me. My diagnosis is BP1 with psychotic features. What's the deal? I feel like this forum is so supportive, but I also feel like I can't relate sometimes, or people can't relate to me.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
1044813 tn?1370494406 Hello all, I would like to request the addition of Seroquel (quetiapine) which is an anti-psychotic to the mood tracker. Seroquel is very commonly prescribed for the treatment of both manic and depressive episodes of bipolar disorder.
Avatar m tn Sometimes trial and error is done to determine the suitable medications for each patient. However, rest, ice packs, and avoidance of triggers will help prevent recurrences. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Since Wellbutin, Lamictal and Topaxax all have the same side effects of anxiety, hyperactivity, insomnia, mood swings why use them to treat a manic episode, especially a severe one? My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
1360950 tn?1277656603 I am not in an episode and have had hallucinations very rarely, I do not understand why I must take a mood stabilizer and an antiphyscotic? How do they differ?
1439426 tn?1283970705 Is it possible to hallucinate while having a mixed episode? I believe I have.
Avatar f tn Hello. What is a better exam of the brain to see if a psychotic episode history is caused by something in the brain, ex. tumor etc.? MRI or CT scan? And why? Thank you.
933174 tn?1375792553 Do you think the psychotic breakdown I described was a mixed state gone over the edge? You know luckily I haven't had a psychotic episode like that since I've been taking effexor. The effexor really helped a lot. I thank God for it because I was ready to commit suicide. I basically was in psychosis for the whole summer.
952564 tn?1268368647 m also nervous being on an anti-psychotic because in 2006 a psychiatrist at the hospital where my son was born put me on an anti-psychotic. I don't remember the name of it. Well, it gave me panic attacks like you wouldn't believe. I was either jittery or my whole body would just freeze up and I can't even explain the intensity or how it felt. I felt like my whole body was turning against me. Well, I sent a HIPAA release form to my old OB to get the name of that med.
Avatar f tn 1st, having an initial psychotic episode at 38 is unusual, so it is probably not something squarely in the "psychotic family" of conditions. It is possible (although unlikely) to have an initial manic episode after having previous depressive episodes. There is information that link paranoid/delusional thinking with menstruation, especially with a history of intense PMS (it is sometimes referred to as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, PMDD).
