Avatar n tn Here is what is going on, let me say right now I have not drunk alcohol for 5 months straight and I have not taken any illegal drugs for 3 months. Just to sum up that, as you'll probably ask that later. I am asking if psychosis exists in bipolar disorder because I have been experiencing episodes that make it difficult to concentrate on anything. I frequently have blackouts, where I honestly cannot remember how I got from point A to point B.
Avatar n tn She is 20 years old and in college. Today she told me she felt like she was having a psychotic breakdown. What is this kind of breakdown?
Avatar m tn in short, I use to do drugs, marijuana, ketamine, mephedrone, speed. I stopped because marijuana gave me very severe panic disorder.. which 2 and a half years later I'm still suffering with, no where near as badly though, it's more like anxiety disorder now. Anyway i was clubbing yestarday, was kind of anxious because I always am, don't go out much because of anxiety etc etc. and I was drinking, I was not drunk, maybe slightly tipsy.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar m tn Actually I have schizhoaffective disorder and that sounds like what you are talking about. Schizoaffective is schizophrenia with a mood disorder, in my case bipolar but as you are describing depression. I would speak to a psychiatrist. Schizoaffective disorder is actually more common than schizophrenia and more easily treated. You could also have depression with psychotic features. I could explain the difference between the two but a psychiatrist could explain it.
Avatar f tn My question is what is the difference between Bipolar disorder with psychotic features and Schizoaffective disorder? And which one sounds closest to what i am experiencing, if it's possible to answer?
Avatar n tn I've had a couple of episodes lately when I drink heavily. I often drink pretty heavy once a week, usually on a Friday. About a month ago, I had an episode where, according to a friend, I zoned out and started making faces. He said it was like I lost my mind. It only lasted a couple of minutes.
16615961 tn?1454420087 I'm a good listener if you ever need someone to talk to. My trauma was publicized and I grew up in a small town. So everyone my whole life has known about my personal life and it still gets brought up even now when I visit. My past haunts me bc I keep having to face it instead of being able to walk away and leave it behind me. I have a condition that heightens my already existing anxiety and depression and it's gotten harder and harder to cope over the years.
1351968 tn?1278205300 Well there is a gradation between bipolar and schizophrenia such as bipolar with psychotic features (where a person experiences psychotic symptoms specifically during moodswings) and schizoaffective disorder, as was mentioned as I have where if untreated a person experiences psychotic symptoms at all times. Bipolar in some people can worsen over a life time, certainly if untreated and there are many subtypes of bipolar, including bipolar with psychotic features.
1201916 tn?1277603095 It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.
Avatar m tn There are SO many stark differences between a psychotic mental illness, and an anxiety disorder. Nearly 20% of the US population is diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, that's a LOT of people. And that doesn't include the people who have suffered but not been officially diagnosed. I would recommend that you seek professional help for the anxiety, as it has been an issue for you for a long time. Therapy is vital, and meds may be something worth considering as well.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hypomania is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms. In other words if there are psychotic features its mania. BP2's can get psychotic features in mania the same as anyone does. Is this what you are referring to on the Black Dog Site ?
Avatar f tn 14 years old is indeed young but it might be psychotic episodes or something somehow leading to bi-polarity as it could be and it is very likely, that is is schizo but at this age who knows if she's just shizotypal or schizoid, well you wanna know if it's a personality disorder or a psychotic disorder. In females real psychotic disorders tend to appear later than in men, who are starting to get symptoms between adolescence and early adulthood.
Avatar f tn It has been reported that Britney stopped taking her medication for bi-polar disorder because she thought it wasn't working. When you start taking an anti-depressant or anti-psychotic drug your symptoms may initially increase before your medicines start to work. You should be observed regularly by your doctor, and tell a friend or family member that you are taking this medication. If you have distressing thoughts or experiences go to your doctor or hospital.
1510258 tn?1290468781 If in some way you are aware what is occurring is not real it might potentially be part of anxiety disorder but a psychiatrist would have to make that distinction. Psychosis can occur in depression with psychotic features and sometimes in severe depression and other criteria as well. There is the concern of stigmatization as regards seeing a psychiatrist which is understandable but it would be worthwhile to follow up as they could provide greater help with this.
202665 tn?1248806733 Yes schizophrenia doesnt have any mood changes but there are a whole spectrum of conditions in between such as bipolar with psychotic features and schizoaffective disorder which involve both psychosis and mood changes. Sometimes certain concerns such as psychosis can increase over time become more apparent or are more in need of treatment. Bipolar with psychotic features is generally defined by psychotic thoughts or auditory or other hallucinations occuring only during mood swings..
1714202 tn?1352672419 Hey, so my birthday is coming up and a big group of us is going to the casino and I know I'll end up drinking. Does anyone know the interactions with alcohol, lamictal, abilify, and ativan? If they're too serious I'll just tell my boyfriend not to let me drink. Any help would be great!
Avatar f tn t say I know what specifically causes it in the brain (nor can ANYONE or it would be CURED), but I do know how it is classified and I also know the unfortunate kind of misdiagnosing that goes on with unskilled psychiatrists and doctors whom have never seen this illness before. Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder because reality testing is lost, however, reality testing remains during DP/DR episodes.
1840891 tn?1431547793 Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder in which there are hallucinations and delusions (very strong irrational beliefs) but it starts in the teens to 20's. It is VERY unlikely he has that. I, of course, don't know about all the mental disorders but I am sure there has to be one in which the primary symptom is psychosis.... but of course I'm not a mental health professional. To find out what it is he needs to see a psychiatrist and drug/alcohol abuse has to be ruled out first.
Avatar f tn Holiday blues can affect anyone, especially people with things like bipolar disorder. Depressive episodes I don't think are required for bipolar disorder 1 to be diagnosed and only mania is required but they frequently occur. With psychotic features just means you experience psychotic symptoms when manic and/or depressed but particularly while manic.
