psychotic break hospital

my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.

My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?

t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?

has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Yes of course like anything else. Before I recovered I would know things were not going well. I would not of course know the specifics. I would then speak to my psychiatrist. But if someone is completely psychotic they lose track of reality completely. As well a person's awareness they that have a psychiatric disability can be completely lost. I did once before I recovered stop medication and of course have to sign myself into the psychiatric hospital.

Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.

If so, he could be going through severe withdrawal and suffering a psychotic break from it. It might be worth mentioning to the docs at the facility, just so that they're aware of the possibility.

I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Just found out (although also found out that husband has known about for 18 mos) that when they were 12/10 or 14/12, my older son sexually abused his younger brother. He is currently hospitalized after a psychotic break last night and stated this during his "assessment" by the doctor of what's been going on/what brought him to the ER. can anyone share their experiences with psychotic mania or bipolar with psychotic features? i have no idea where mine are heading but they are here, and they are not backing down.

It stems from mistakes I made when I had my psychotic break a few years ago. I did some things that just shame me to no end - mostly financial. Some of them were apparent when I lost everything (financially) and some others aren't completely out there. And of course, my suicide attempt that very few people close to me know about. This panic has led to anxiety and the anxiety to severe depression.

As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.

Being open about my true nature has been one of the hardest parts of my recovery so far, other than my psychotic break, which led me to not caring what I had to do to get better. If it were me, I'd tell your partner as soon as I thought it was getting serious.

m sorry about your son and I hope he gets better soon. Sometimes something can tip off a psychotic break and even though that chemical is not longer there it takes a while to come back from it. Also, the marijuana may have been laced with another chemical he didn't know about. Typically its amphetimines or cocaine that are more likely to cause psychosis.

At the hospital they did a fetal appranectim (sp) which came back negative. So at least for the next 2 weeks I won't go into labor. They said I needed to get rid of my stress. This last year I had a plan all set with my husband. We both agreed if I enter a psychotic break that I can not get myself out of, he's to drive me to a specific hospital. Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.

My second question is how do I (and of course, my psychiatrist) differentiate between whether I am bipolar with psychotic features or schizo-affective? I definitely have the cycles of mania and depression, starting about three years ago, would have auditory and visual hallucinations when severely depressed. Recently with this batch of mania, I have begun to have the auditory hallucinations too, as well as visual. I also am having some problems with disorganized thoughts and speech and delusions.

In mood swings there are difficulties in the understanding of emotions and relations with people and ability to focus and understand things and make appropriate decisions but when a person encounters psychotic symptoms there is a full break in reality testing. If you are concerned about any specific symptoms you have it would be essential to discuss them with your psychiatrist and of course if you have any new symptoms of any kind always bring it to their attention.
