Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
Avatar m tn It feels like a taught metal cord has been snapped, like a thick base guitar string but the sound does not linger. Its a metallic sound and I can almost feel it when it happens. I never suffered any trauma to by head or ears. I have seen my GP, neurosurgeon, ENT and there appears to be no structural damage. No brain tumor. Nothing that shows up on imaging. I always forget to ask the neuro and plan on doing so next wee.
Avatar f tn t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?
447130 tn?1225470866 has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn We are a musical family. My hubby plays guitar and sings at small venues, my 4 y.o. loves her guitar, my 15 y.o. plays drums, I play violin and sing, and my soon to be 19 y.o. plays guitar too. After typing that out, "By George", I'm gonna break out my violin! Havens touched it in nearly 2 yrs!!!
Avatar n tn Today I am taking him to have acrylic nails as a one off to hope we can encourage him to grow the overthe summer break. We are using the chane of instant nails and the new guitar sound as he knows the pieces to hopefully strike a chord with him.
Avatar f tn As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.
5466288 tn?1410485185 I just have ugly hands period. I look at all of my friends with their pretty feminine hands with a great deal of jealousy. My cuticles split and bleed and are disgusting. I have short and wide nail beds and I have to keep my nails short so that they don't bend backward and break beyond the quick. Ouch!
Avatar n tn Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.
Avatar f tn Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.
268911 tn?1213744781 Guitar hero update. I beat "Same old song and dance" now I'm on "Welcome to the jungle" I LOVE THAT SONG! By the way...I'm on the "difficult" level....next is expert.
Avatar n tn Hi, my index finger was broken and sprained 35 days ago (Jan 6, 2008). It's still quite painful and the joint is very stiff. I'm getting very concerned because I'm a guitar player and it's still basically impossible for me to play properly. The injury happened as follows: my fist was in a nearly closed position. A person deliberately grabbed my index finger and forcibly wrenched it.
518031 tn?1295575374 I'm not a lead guitar fan and can't stand guitar solos or jam sessions...I love the bass and rhythm guitar the best....so my vote is for Paul McCartney for bass.....
1351968 tn?1278205300 In mood swings there are difficulties in the understanding of emotions and relations with people and ability to focus and understand things and make appropriate decisions but when a person encounters psychotic symptoms there is a full break in reality testing. If you are concerned about any specific symptoms you have it would be essential to discuss them with your psychiatrist and of course if you have any new symptoms of any kind always bring it to their attention.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure pinched nerves are caused by guitar playing. I've also been playing guitar for about that long, but I have no pinched nerves from it. I am, however, wracked with pain from other things, and if you do have pinched nerves it's likely the posture we assume when we play the guitar, with too much neck bending.
Avatar f tn ve had the worse anxiety ever this past week and have posted on this forum a few times. (wanted to jump out a window yesterday) Played Guitar Hero for about an hour in the morning and I must say it helped the symptoms some...couldn't focus on the chest pain as much while trying to beat my husband at this stupid game! I AM going to make an appt with my dr. for sometime this week hopefully to discuss this severe increase in anxiety.
738075 tn?1330575844 I played between sets last Saturday night after practicing my 3 songs during the day a couple of times.Well, I played like s#!t! My fingers just weren't keeping up with my brain, and I was making just one R hand mistake after another. Spastic, fatigued, numbed. I learned when I was a little kid to keep the tempo the same, even through mistakes, and many people won't even notice. But _I_ noticed! I hate this feeling of loosing my guitar ability.
Avatar f tn This evening a relative used my guitar right before me. My guitar strings press extremely hard into the skin and I think I may have some tiny cuts on my fingers(still hurt hours later) and I suspect that my relative may have done the same. If he has HIV wouldn't this warrant Post exposure prophylaxis?
Avatar f tn I am horribly worried sick about my 17 yr old son who will be graduating in 2013. He is an avid guitarist and is now preparing to go to pre med school. He plays guitar as a hobby and one would think he plays it for a living, the amount of playing he does night and day. Also loves to spend hours, I mean hours on the computer playing games, staying up late at night doing all of these things, so much so that he gets very little sleep. On holidays he gets up in the afternoon having slept late.
Avatar f tn Do you play the guitar or any other activity that would make your left hand finger tips hared/calloused? If yes, that's my guess...but the nurse would surely notice that. If you can't come up with any other reason and you have no symptoms, e.g., tingling on the left side of your body - especially left arm/hand, I'd ask my primary care to check my circulation. I have had that done for my legs a couple of times because of what I call "tired legs".
Avatar f tn To GingerA I Started Hearing Voices Since 2008 Going on Four years, I been hearing the same things in a City I used to live at and now i moved about over hundred miles from the city all they do over is yell at holograms calling them BttleFckr or Quntera Spirits in another part of a new city. i cant tell you about imagery because its very strange to see them they dont frighten me . i just continue watching t.v and ignore them...frm IpodLmx..
Avatar f tn It stems from mistakes I made when I had my psychotic break a few years ago. I did some things that just shame me to no end - mostly financial. Some of them were apparent when I lost everything (financially) and some others aren't completely out there. And of course, my suicide attempt that very few people close to me know about. This panic has led to anxiety and the anxiety to severe depression.
Avatar m tn When I've played my guitar for a while, my arm and hand become temporary paralyzed. My fingers on my left hand retract into a claw position and pain radiates in the center of my arm. I can't move my hand, fingers, or arm for a few minutes. This has been happening frequently for the last 2-3 years. I've played guitar most of my life so I'm a bit baffled as to why this is occurring. Anyone know what this is?
