psychotic

Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
Avatar f tn t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?
Avatar n tn I have seen two cats turn psychotic. In both cases it was not an off-again-on-again thing. Although there were signs before that these cats were not entirely normal, once they showed overt psychotic behavior, there were no normal periods. Each became exceedingly dangerous. If you look at their eyes the condition is obvious.
447130 tn?1225470866 has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn I personally would keep the cat in and get a box. The biggest cause for the bacteria is from cats that go outside. Indoor cats sometimes don't even carry the bacteria. If you do get scratched then wash immediately with soap and water. People can be immune to it and you can get it from lots of other things not just cats.
306594 tn?1443387857 my aunt breeds siamese cats...they are INSANE. i mean down right nuts!!! i'd go over to visit and they were quiet literally climbing the walls. the father (her oldest...he's 6 or 7) hangs upside down from the curtains. and the meows...omg. it's funny but horrible. the mother (she's only had 2 litters....she's spayed now) sits at the top of the courio cabinet (how she gets up there nobody knows) pokes her head out of the designs and just howls at people.
Avatar m tn re psychotic. Your cats are not psychotic. They are playing with you. Play requires an intense ability to concentrate on deliberate behaviors, which your cats do. They do find it amusing, and that is the point for them, as every cat lives to be amused when not sleeping. Case in point: I have six cats. All of them are allowed in and out whenever they want. Thing is that we must open the door for them. Use your imagination: six cats, a human door-opener...
Avatar m tn one thing thats almost impossible to do is put a bandage on a kitty....they will work at it until its off..and theres not need, if theres no bleeding/limping or crying in pain than I'm sure it would be alright, kitties break and tear off parts of their nails all the time.....
506791 tn?1439842983 2 years ago we adopted Cooper (dark grey) and Buff (ginger) at about 5 months of age. They are our first boy cats in our near 34 years of having cats together, and were rescued from a horrible, ongoing hoarding situation in Harrisburg, PA. The boys have put on a charm offensive from the beginning. This is what I hoped would happen some day.
Avatar f tn yes we want the pretty features and don't consider the poor health conditions it contributes to these poor little creatures. With the runny eyes/nose the cause is the DEEP indent in the nose called 'break' this blocks off the natural draining of their eyes and nose therefore since they can't drain 'properly' the drainage spills over and outside their eyes and nose.
Avatar f tn As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.
Avatar n tn t it be too painful or something? ive read that its dangerous for cats who have just gotten spayed to jump cos the stitches might break or internal bleeding may occur, but i just dont know how to stop her. I can't be watching her every minute of the day. I can't even keep her in a cage because she drinks so much water that she keeps needing to pee. Ive tried keeping a box with a bit of her litter in it (i can't fit the "toilet" she usually uses), but she refuses to use it.
Avatar f tn Hi, hon, there are many vets that will offer a sedative pill for your cat. There is an injection available, but most vets prescribe the pill. My vet most definitely does give me pills before I bring my cats in-that way they're calm in the car and at the vet's office. Not one time has it been suggested to gas my cats!! You don't know how upset that made me hearing that your vet wants to do that. That is just totally unbelievable!!
Avatar n tn Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.
Avatar n tn These actions can break the delicate capillaries in the ear pinna causing a pocket of blood to fill up and since there is no outlet the blood has to be removed in a procedure either with a needle or with a surgical procedure. So I think that your cat is bothered by the ear problem. The best option is of course to have your cat seen by your vet since not doing anything will cause the ear to fibrose down into a cauliflower ear, like a prize fighter.

Avatar f tn Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me why my cats are eating ants straight out of a nest in my garden? Is there some kind of dietary deficiency or do they just like the taste? Never seen anything like this before. They are only going to one nest (there must be loads in the garden) and the ants are small and black.
1351968 tn?1278205300 In mood swings there are difficulties in the understanding of emotions and relations with people and ability to focus and understand things and make appropriate decisions but when a person encounters psychotic symptoms there is a full break in reality testing. If you are concerned about any specific symptoms you have it would be essential to discuss them with your psychiatrist and of course if you have any new symptoms of any kind always bring it to their attention.
Avatar f tn I have been married to my husband since my 7-year-old stepdaughter was just 3. We have always had a good relationship, though I have felt like she is clingy and perhaps a tad manipulative. She is the only child of two only children, and the only grandchild of well-off grandparents who spoil her rotten. She lives with her mother and grandmother in a city 3 hours away.
Avatar f tn I dont think so but in my situation i was never allergic to cats and now that im pregnant its horrible my whole body starts to break outs so i had to get rid of them
Avatar f tn sounds to me like patches is just very territorial and male cats usually are that i've seen. or maybe even jealous. since he's still young i think he may grow out of it.

Avatar f tn It stems from mistakes I made when I had my psychotic break a few years ago. I did some things that just shame me to no end - mostly financial. Some of them were apparent when I lost everything (financially) and some others aren't completely out there. And of course, my suicide attempt that very few people close to me know about. This panic has led to anxiety and the anxiety to severe depression.
Avatar m tn If getting rid of the cats is not possible (or make sure before you do something drasatic), try increasing the cleaning of the house and cats. Wash the cats once a week with plain water to remove the build up of dander, dry them as much as possible to limit the amount of licking them do to dry themselves. If possible find and use a product allerpet-c that denatures (breaks down) the cat dander so it can't cause as much of an allergic reaction.
603015 tn?1329862973 I myself had those kind of auditory hallucinations during psychotic episodes before recovery. Speak to your psychiatrist about it.
